I believe the focus group research will yield informative data because the participants are experienced individuals that have knowledge of the software program. This method reduces the required time it takes to obtain information by focusing on the topic, therefore making it very direct. It provides an intimate setting for individuals to encourage participation. Individuals have a tendency to feel more comfortable when they are around others that share similar experiences. Although personal bias and disagreements may arise, focus groups provide a good starting point and other methods can be used to eliminate bias. The first method is to ask questions. Questions pertaining to the software, hardware, training, troubleshooting, etc would be helpful
Caliban, a very misunderstood character, while he may seem to be the monster on the outside. He isn’t who he appears to be. He is simply a product of his environment. Before Prospero showed up the island was his, Caliban’s mother had left him the island, but now he is only a slave to Prospero, who tortures him. So it sounds to me that Caliban isn’t in fact the monster, and the monster may actually be the person that you didn’t expect it to be.
These passages are about women’s suffrage. The first is against women’s suffrage, the second strongly for, and the last is neutrally for feminism. All three are very different and show the contrasting opinions of the time.
Flexible and inexpensive, focus groups consist of six to ten participants (Hartman, 2004, p. 408). Additionally, a moderator guides the discussion among its panel members that allows researchers to observe real-time verbal responses and nonverbal cues (Hartman, 2004, p. 402; Cooper & Schindler, 2014, p. 160). Focus groups moderators also have the ability to introduce new ideas to gain a greater understanding of concerns from respondents (Hartman, 2004, p. 402). However, a concern with focus group is the lack of anonymity due to the face-to-face participation.
This method is applicable to my study because it allows the group of students the freedom to share their experiences, understanding and beliefs of the topic being presented. Focus groups are an asset to my research design because these groups work best for topics people could talk about with one another in their daily lives but do not. Focus groups are not always appropriate for highly sensitive and personal topics to be shared with strangers. However, for the purposes of my research the racially sensitive issues will be open to discussion because the focus group will only have African American students (Merriam,
Open ended interview and focus group will give the participants a chance to speak their opinion. There are a few concerns that I have with the interview process though. First, the information the participant give might not always helpful to evaluate the program, guided questions should be use to help guide the conversations back into evaluating the program. Second, focus groups can drown out the voices of individual participants, sometimes
Focus groups can be an excellent way to collect data and be able to identify if the interventions have an effect on the clients (Stringer, 2007). I’m interested
This article represents a focus group type of qualitative research. According to Qualitative Research Consultants Association (2015), in focus group qualitative research, a group of individuals who share a need, life circumstance, or habit relevant to the research issue(s) at hand are led in a discussion by a modulator. The focus group discussions often include between two to ten respondents, and are often held face to face. They can also be conducted remotely through videoconferencing, teleconferencing, or
The TMDEOhio Focus Group will serve as an opportunity to bring a carefully selected segment of the target audience together for an interactive and spontaneous discussion about traumatic life events. Group face-to-face interviews will provide an opportunity to visualize members of our target audience’s body language, facial expressions and tone of voice when sharing personal life experiences in a group setting.
Focus groups are a popular method used to capture views and opinions for qualitative research.
The first method is gathering in-person feedback through focus groups. In this approach small groups of participants roughly 8 to 10 people, a strong facilitator, and one recorder, respond to a set number of questions. The facilitator will help keeping the discussion focus on the topic and the needed points are discussed. This approach is helpful for providing specific direction or reactions to concepts from targeted groups. In this method the participants react to the ideas together, build off each other’s suggestions, and a quick way to hear various statements, thoughts, and share experience. During the discussion sessions, some participants may dominate the discussion, group atmosphere impede honest opinions, and only small number of individuals can participate. To address these disadvantages, the subcommittee decided to conduct anonymous online surveys. These anonymous online surveys are useful for reaching large numbers of people, could gather more honest information, and focus on investigating themes that had raised by the focus groups (NACCHO,
One Thursday, afternoon in Philadelphia, Matt, a 25 year old man, was driving down to his friend John’s house to see the Eagles play their first game of the season. The Eagles were playing the Giants. As he was driving his car just broke down on the side of the road. He had no idea what had happened his tank was close to full. He was hoping there would be another person going to drive by, but after 10 minutes of waiting no one had driven by. So then he called John but he did not answered his phone so he tried his wife's number, but she was away with a friend in Boston. Then he started to walk to get to his friend’s house. By the time Matt had got to John’s house there was 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter and the Eagles
My focus group will be highschool and college students with an emphasis on those who are in the junior class of both institutions. I will take a small sample of each student group and the educators who are responsible for them. I intially planned on studying only highschool students but in my collection of
In order to conduct focus group the best way is face to face and sitting under one roof. But due to technological and geographical distances some times the telephone based group will be used however it doesn’t provide quality information as there won’t be proper communication, body language, feeling etc in their discussion (Burnard, P, 2004). The online group discussion sorted some of telephone type research, but still not affective as direct face to face discussion.
During a focus group, there are different ways in which the research can be conducted. For example, the most standard way of conducting a focus group is through interview questions. During a study about communication through music, the researcher could ask questions such as what genres to the participants listen to? And how does their choice of music
First is focus group method, focus group is defined as a group of individuals providing information in a structured format. A moderator leads the group of about 8 to 14 participants through an open, in-depth discussion rather than simply asking questions to solicit participants’ responses. The group is stimulated by comments from other group members in creatively conceptualizing and developing a new
