In the short story “Flowers For Algernon” by Daniel Keyes and in the film “Charly” by motion pictures has many similarities and differences. For example,in both the short story and the film Charlie races a mouse named Algernon.Another similarity is,That charlie falls in love with his teacher Miss.Kinnian. There also there are some differences for example,in the move he went to the Miss.Kinnians house and was forcing her to kiss him but in the short story it didn't show this. This is a really good difference because when you watch the movie you weren't expecting that sense. Another example is,in the short story when he goes to the restaurant he sees a young boy that is like him and he drops cups and everybody laughs, charlie gets up
The first difference that caught my eye was how there was no cat, in the book there was a cat named, Sammie, and Sammie always got stuck in one of Billy’s traps. But in the movie
In Lyddie by Katherine Paterson and Lyddie the movie, both have similar same plot lines but with slightly different plots. Some People, such as Diana, have different ways to leave the main story; other characters like Triphena are outright gone, and a few characters never fully develop a complete personality.
One way the story is different from the movie is that the story is very descriptive of characters and
Next, the characters between the two stories have many differences. In "Flowers for Algernon" one of the main doctors, Dr. Strauss, is a man while in Charly they are a woman. The characters actions and emotions also differ greatly between the two stories. In Charly Mrs. Kinnian and Charlie both like each other and want to be together while in "Flowers for Algernon" Charlie likes Mrs. Kinnian, but she does not like him back. The characters in the stories have different aspects to their personality.
One of the differences is the father. In the short story the father is not involved in Connie’s life as much as he should be. “Their father was away at work most of the time and when he came home he wanted supper and he read the newspaper at supper and after supper he went to bed. He did not t bother talking much to them” (Oates 1). They changed in role in the movie. He is more involved in her life in the movie. He talks to Connie about her and her mother's relationship, he is concerned about Connie being on the side of the road, and he tried to steer Connie in the right direction.
There were characters that didn’t make the movie which were the nurse and doctor that was talking to ponyboy, soda, and darry in the book. They were the once that told them that johnny was dieing which was an important scene in the book. The mom of johnny was not in the movie the way I know this because in the book there was only one scene where the mother was in. That was after the nurse came to tell johnny that his mother wanted to see him he said no. After that Dally and ponyboy left and the mother screaming at them telling them that this is their fault because they are bad influences in johnny's life. That never happened in the movie.
The book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and the movie Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory are same and different. Unlike the book, the movie had Willy Wonka wearing a brown top hat. Similar to the book in the movie Willy Wonka wore a purple coat. In the book Charlie was in elementary school similar to the movie. Also, in the movie he goes into the candy shop and in the book he doesn’t. Since the family didn’t have very much money do they only had one bed. Also, in the book the dad was alive and he wasn’t in the movie.
There are many similarities and some minor differences between the movie, directed by Claude Chabrol, and the short story it is based off of, written by Guy de Maupassant. The plot, setting, and characters are all highly similar in both the story and the film. In both, the plot follows the same scheme, it is set in Paris in the 1880’s, and all of the main characters are the same. The major difference that stood out to me is how these aspects are displayed at the beginning of the narrative.
The movies that I am comparing are “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory was a 1971 film directed by Mel Stuart, and starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a 2005 musical fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and starred Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Both Movies are an adaptation of the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. In both movies, a young boy named Charlie Bucket wins a tour through the most magnificent chocolate factory in the world, led by the world's most unusual candy maker, Willy Wonka.
Even though the movie kept a few similarities, much of the film was different. An example of this would have to be the relationship between Forrest and Jenny. As seen in the movie, Jenny and Forrest have a close relationship from grade school to high school. Then as the movie progresses you see the transformation of their friendship slowly becomes more at the times Forrest is close to Jenny. But when they are far apart it seems like it is only Forrest who is still caring
There are many scenes and details that were in the book, but were left out of the movie, one thing that differentiates the movie from the book, is the change in character’s personalities and the relationships between the characters. In the book, Candace and Charlie seem like they don’t get along extremely well. Like any brother and sister, they fight quite a lot and they get in many arguments. But Candace seems like she is much meaner to him in the book than she is to him in the movie. In the movie Candace is much nicer to Charlie, and just nicer in general. Patrick is quite similar in the movie to how he was in the book, except for his personality. In the book, Patrick seems less carefree and funny. It seems like he is a jokester, but he can also be very serious at times. While in the movie he can’t be taken seriously and he always is trying to lighten the mood. Even when he and Brad were going through a rough spot in their relationship, he was still messing around and cracking jokes. Charlie was the character that is the most different in the book and in the movie. In the book, Charlie is portrayed as weak, nerdy and extremely awkward. But in the movie he is a tougher character and he seems a lot less quiet and shy. One way the movie shows that Charlie is not very weak is how he only cries once at the end. While in the book he cries all
For example, the reader is introduced to Helen as a baby. Meanwhile, in the motion picture the watcher is introduce to Helen when she’s six years old. This a major difference because the reader views how Helen started unlike the watcher of the movie. Another example, in the story Helen is pictured as a filthy mess, but in the film she is always in a nice set of clothes. This is a very important change because it shows how a person depicts Helen. Lastly, Annie is haunted by nightmares of her brother at the State Court house. In the book their is great deal of flashbacks in the story, but in the movie their is only one. This shows how Annie had to fight the voices in her head and the guilt of her “ killing” her brother. Even with these differences, it still tells the amazing story of Helen
To begin with the first difference between the movie and the novel is poor character development, and how the character are shown differently in both the novel and the movie. When Gene goes to Leper’s home town, he finds him shell shocked. When Gene gets the telegram letter and goes to
The Secret Garden is a film based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's book bearing the same title. This movie is about a young girl who is literally shipped off to her uncle's English castle after her parents are killed in an earthquake. The main character, Mary, is played by Kate Maberly. She is tossed into a world where sunlight and cheerful discourse seem as rare as the attention she receives from the sour-pussed housekeeper Medlock, played by Maggie Smith. She helps her crippled cousin to see past his hypochondria and into the wonders of a long forgotten garden hidden beyond the confines of Misselthwaite Manor. While one critic dislikes the slight deviations from the book, another is
Both stories had different types of flavors. There is the strawberry ice cream flavor where Flowers of Algernon had the majority of the film showing the complicated romantic relationship between Ms. Kinnian and Charly. There is also the vanilla ice cream flavor where the story was plainly about Charly struggling in his life to fit in with society. Although the film and the short story had different flavors, it still had some of the same products. There weren’t only differences between the story and the film. There were similarities as well.
