Question 1
The connections that both of these types of people are that they both want to be more recognized as a county instead of being left behind in the dust and not even mentioned at all. They think as being a town with 11 counties they should have more representatives. They gave an example where Los Angeles has 11 counties and has 11 senator, but it not the same for the town which has only one senator. The region where the activists are talking about is represented by 6 lawmakers. They want to accept more as a piece of land. Of course, they also want to make a 51st state. I don’t think the federal government is too strong, mainly because they don’t have complete power over only one state. That’s why there is a governor to hold the state together and maintain its status as a state the functions well.

The worst part of making a new state is the presidential election. The country would have to decide how many electoral votes would be made for this new state. This extra state can have a big effect in the run for president. The fact that California is repeatedly a Democratic state and with the Electoral College system, every part of the state would be represented as a democrat no matter what party a person voted for. What if this new state were to be made and it ended up to be a republican state. California for lose those votes and the other party would get them. Due to the population I would think the new state would have maybe only one or two Electoral College votes, which may seem like nothing but it could make a huge difference especially if the election is extremely close. The constitutional process would be all the same as the other states got in the past. I think this has a very extremely slim chance that a 51st state would be even considered and let alone made. The elections, governing positions
Since the majority of US thrive on the use of credit cards, the accounts receivables for a company may no longer be on a cash-to-cash basis. A company may need to sell these accounts to other companies who specialize in handling accounts receivables if they need cash more quickly or if it would be too costly to perform the necessary billing to collect on the account.
The week four individual paper addresses the implementation of Activity Based Costing (ABC) by Super Bakery, Inc., a virtual corporation founded by Franco Harris. Specifically, management strategies, the reasoning behind an ABC system, and the alternatives of a job order cost system or a process order cost system are assessed for this enterprise.
In the article “Pummeled Florida Staggers Toward Long Recovery” by Alexander Burns, informs the reader that Florida took most of the hit from hurricane Irma and it will take a long time for everything to be better. Beside Florida, three other states were on alert of strong winds and a tornado. To start with, hurricane Irma cause heavy rains, so that caused severe damages with the water and an amount of people weren’t able to evacuate. Due to this, the damages are going to cost repairs. Also, it turned off power lines. In consequence places are on alert. This is a awful event and it will take about a week, so we need to be alert.
Mess around with the states, you're gonna get dumped. I like states' rights, we don't want to be a Britain, With a big king hidden where the president is sitting. We need to keep the power in the hands of the
Many arguments can be made against each state for the right to send the same amount of representatives. Bigger states would have a voice in the decisions whereas the small states would not. The conflict would
small state. Large state vs. small state mean they are try to balance power among them. In Document D, it states, “The number of representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand, but each state shall have at least one representative… The Senate of the United States shall be composed by the legislatures thereof for six years; and each senator shall have one vote.” These laws in the Constitution are to make sure that all the states have equal power and all state must have equal representation so that they can have a say in the government. If the Constitution was not existent, some states would have total control over other states because the smaller states didn't have a say. Large state vs. small state protects against tyranny because each state was able to have at least one or more
More than simply the longevity and length of the constitutions, much of their content also differs from one another. Both essentially present the people’s basic rights and define the scope and structure of the government. However, direct democracy plays a greater role amongst the states (Morris, Henson, & Fackler, 2011). Thus, as expected, their constitutions and governments are designed to function well in the region. One of perhaps its biggest advantages is its ability to represent the minorities. African Americans, Hispanics, and women all have more powerful voices amongst these local governments than they do on a national level (Blanda, 2010).
We all know in the world of politics, there is and will always be an argument to anything that would be proposed, especially if it’s something new to politicians. With the addition of a new state, it would scramble things in the senate and the house. “Puerto Rico as a state would gain two seats in the Senate and five in the House of Representatives, rather than the one non voting delegate that currently represents Puerto Rico.”(Rubinstein) Puerto Rico would most likely be a democratic state, which would greatly help breaking up the republican controlled senate and house. This would help in the decision making that would go on. Puerto Rico would also see benefits, because the US would help improve the living conditions. Puerto Rico just filed for bankruptcy and if statehood were to be granted, Puerto Rico would be okay. Just in general both sides could see benefits and granting statehood to Puerto Rico is a great
Another smaller reason for the supporters to do what they do, is that if Arkansas became a state there would be added benefits. The benefits Arkansas would receive would be the ability to tax citizens along improvements in their banking and mail
State representation is key in formation of government. We being a small state fear larger states might overpower us and are certain that other less populous states like Delaware share the same opinion as us. For that reason, we believe every state should be represented fairly in one house of Congress. The Congress should contain Representatives elected by people and Senators elected by the State Legislature. We
They want a strong executive system of the checks and balances, which will prevent tyranny and lots of other things. Now, the other nine states have also ratified the new constitution
These states together account for 66% of all the popular vote. So candidates would have no motive to campaign in small states that don’t have to big of a population. This would cause unequal representation and would make an uproar in the U.S. Since the electoral college is in place the votes are distributed mostly equal. Candidates have to go around state to state and try to earn the votes of the citizens living their. This way a president will be elected who cares equally about the whole nation and understands the diverse issues of every
On November, 9th, 2012 a petition, containing 125,746 signatures, was submitted to the United States Federal Government asking if Texas could peacefully secede from the Union (Peacefully grant, 2012, p. 1). Some Texans claimed “Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect its citizens ' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government” (Peacefully grant, 2012, p. 1). However, with a Texan population of over 25million it is quite
When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution in 1787, the United States just had 13 states. The Founding Fathers believed that more states would want to join the Union in the future. They saw that it would be significant for new states to have the same form of government as the original states had. Since then there are now over 50 states that have similar characteristics which were developed centuries ago; although, resembling the creation of new ideas and inventions, current state government had many problems from being the way it is today, it also has many important features that benefit many people, as well as plays an important role in how American democracy and government works.
Politically, there are several advantages to becoming a state. The first is that Puerto Rico will have a voice in the Congress with at least seven represenatives and two senators. Currently, Puerto Rico only has a resident commissioner in Congress. He has a voice, but no vote. Puerto Rico has no electoral votes in the Presidential elections. Becoming a State would remove Puerto Rico form under the Territorial "claws" of the U.S. Constitution, and would put Puerto Rico on the same political footing as the other 50 states. This is the single most compelling argument for Puerto Rican statehood that Puerto Ricans have.
