Florence Nightingale impacted society and hospital conditions greatly. She is known for all the heroic acts she’s done and how much she was needed in her days. Florence changed the views of many in “an era when middle-class women were expected to simply make a good marriage and raise a family”. Florence didn’t allow these views of average women to limit her to advance like any other man in her days. Florence Nightingale was born in May 12, 1820 in Florence, Italy. She was raised in a wealthy family and was educated by her father, William E. Nightingale. Florence learned to be independent and served God through services to show her obedience to him. Then one day, when she was sitting in her garden, she felt a call from God to serve others and since she was a very religious person, this uplifted her and continued on with her career as a nurse. When the Crimean war broke out, many soldiers became injured and because of the lack of equipment, many soldiers started dying unnecessarily. Because of this, Florence was asked to assemble a group of nurses to go to Crimea and help the soldiers in need. Florence assembled a team of 38 other nurses and left to Crimea. Once Florence and her team arrived, the army doctors didn’t want the help of nurses, they just assigned them to keep the hospital clean. However the number of injured soldiers increased immensely and the doctors realized they would need the nurses’ help. Florence saw this as an opportunity to actually help the soldiers and she didn’t want to ruin this opportunity. In an online biography, it discusses Florence’s attitude during this time of crisis: “Florence’s attitude included strict discipline for her other nurses, who always wore a highly visible uniform. The efforts of Florence and her team of nurses were greatly appreciated by the wounded soldiers and gradually positive news reports filtered back
