I have always know that I wanted to go to a Historically Black College or University. I have visited a few of them and fell in love with the atmosphere it. A HBCU is different from any other college. When I first looked into HBCU colleges to apply for, Fisk University was my first choice. I am interested in Fisk University because I feel it is the perfect fit for me. Fisk University will allow me to be more culturally aware. I am a very open minded person and Fisk is well rounded and open to culture. In my high school, as well as in a multitude of colleges, African American history is not really expressed in history books or discussed in classes. Being at Fisk, I would gain more appreciation for culture and learn more about my African American
While attending Liberty Univeristy, I started out as a Business Major, but after a few accounting classes I decided to be an Accountant. Not only did I find a career path at Liberty, but I also found my life's mate. We have been married for 34 year and our proudest accomplishment in life are our three children. Nathan, recently married and lives in Wisconsin. Both are clinical pharmacists in the hospital setting. Nathan published his first article for the Pharmacy Journal which started sibling riviary. Lauren, is the Production Manager for the White House Historical Association and could't wait to tell her brother that she published two articles. We also visited the White House on several occasions. Our youngest,
Citrus College is located in the city of Glendora, a small town located in the San Gabriel Valley, with its slogan boasting “Pride of the Foothills.” Known for its middle/upper class housing, good schools and family programs. Also the city’s religion is mainly Mormon and other Christian denominations.
Since its establishing in 1837, Muskingum has been a group of learners - individuals gaining from and with other individuals. Muskingum's main goal is to teach the "entire individual" - mentally, profoundly, socially and physically - and it does as such by meeting understudies where they are on the instructive continuum, and by helping these understudies to advance to their most extreme potential.
Upper Iowa University began on very humble terms. The university started out in 1854 when a pioneer woman convinced her husband and son-in-law to donate 10 acres and 10,000 dollars to start a local school. Through the years, Upper Iowa University gradually expanded into one of the most popular higher learning institutions in the Midwest. During the 1990s and until the present time, the university has expanded into 25 campuses throughout the nation and globe. These 25 educational locations include single campuses in Arizona, Illinois and Oklahoma and two locations in Kansas. There are five locations in both Iowa and Louisiana and Wisconsin has ten campuses. There are global campuses in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The diversity of VCU is a significant quality that attracts me to the school. When I first started considering schools, I was primarily looking into Historically Black Colleges and Universities. During this time period I was not only considering HBCUs but I was also considering the programs that each schools had to offer. My choices for consideration varied greatly as I began to really think about my future and career path and I stumbled across Virginia Commonwealth University. Virginia Commonwealth University had the exact program and area of study that I was looking for in a college.
Students in high school have a very difficult time depicting the college or university of their choice whether there are going to attend a Historical Black College or University, Predominantly White School? As a future educator, I made a commendable choice to attend an HBCU because they are still needed today for successful individuals. Although some African- Americans forget the journey that our ancestors had to go through so we as African-American can have a better education from an accredited college or university. During the time period of slavery many African- Americans could not attend a PWI school because the color of their skin. In addition, that why I think HBCU’s are still needed today. Also many HBCU’s have very strong history behind their schools. South Carolina State University is a very distinguished supportive and studious HBCU, no matter how the media may criticize this college there are still lessons being taught day to day lives.
At Brewton-Parker College, the campuses community is quite small. I cannot decide if it is a good thing that everyone knows each other. Because the school’s population is not quite as high as a big university, everyone knows everyone’s business. No matter what someone does, good or bad, it gets out, but for me the size in beneficial. The less people there are, the less chance I have of getting distracted. I love how small the classes are, too, because my teachers actually knows who I am. Also, when I need help with what we’re learning or I just have a simple question, I can easily ask my teacher, and he or she can help me better understand what is going on. The teachers here, at Brewton-Parker College, are kind and beyond willing to help me, no matter how long it takes; help is always there when I need it. For instance, the library has become my best friend. I like how I can go and have my own table to get a good amount of work done, and the books are such a useful resource for
Going to a Historically Black College is important for me to attend because I want to carry on a legacy. A HBCU is already inexpensive itself. If I go to a HBCU, my future children could have more opportunities like scholarships and have a better higher
When we are young, we usually think that the only existing careers in the world are police officers, doctors, astronauts, etc. At least that is what I thought; I never knew what I wanted to be. I always changed my mind every time they asked, but now I am in high school, and I have a concrete answer. I want to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist, and in order to achieve my goal, I need to finish my bachelor’s and transfer to a college that offers a PT program. Texas State University is one of the 12 universities in Texas that offers a graduate physical therapy program. This is what my research paper will be consisting of, information about Texas State University, the university I wish to attend, after I finish my
Texas A&M University is a great school to attend. They have great places to relax and study along with amazing facilities. Don't make the wrong choice and be left out because it offers so much and has many opportunities for everyone. Texas A&M opened as the state's first public institution of higher learning in 1876. Dedicated to sending Aggie leaders out into the world to take the challenges of tomorrow, A&M stands as a research-intensive flagship university.
One advantages of attending a HBCU is the culture. There is no other place on earth that will love your blackness the way a HBCU can. There is a saying that “god created black people and black people created culture” this statement simply explains the creative genius of the black American. There is no other school or place that will have the same culture as an HBCU. A majority of people who grow up black in the United States tend to conform to European standards in order to survive in their environments. The social pressure to conform to fit in creates a false sense of belonging and an identity crisis in some cases. Years of conformity, racism, and colorism has led to a disconnect between the black identity and what society wants the average black person to look like. For
As a military wife one of my greatest duties is to support my husband while he supports our nation. That duty has led to our family having to relocate and change many aspects of our lives including which school I attend. I am thankful that that obligation is now making it possible for me to potentially attend The George Washington University. While transferring midway through a degree certainly is not ideal I do feel like this is a remarkable opportunity that I am eager to embrace. I cannot help but feel as if my journey in higher education is finally getting where it was supposed to be all along. As a teenager, I envisioned life at my age and it never involved four children and a halfway complete English degree. I had planned to attend the university in my hometown and then, after four perfect years of course, become a wonderful high school English teacher just doing what I loved every day.
Brigham Young University in Hawaii is the college that I would most like to attend. I would prefer to attend a church school and be around people that share my religious views and standards. BYU Hawaii is most attractive because it has a prodigious heritage and diverse cultures compared to the other church schools. In short, the cultural diversity attracts me to BYU Hawaii. I have grown up in an area that is not culturally diverse. I enjoy meeting people of different backgrounds and ethnicities because it opens my eyes to the diversity throughout the world. It is exciting to be around and meet people that come from different backgrounds. I am always intrigued by their unique cultures. There is an older Hawaiian woman in my ward that has
A school that met every single one of my expectations. The only probably was the price tag. Since I was a child, I have been aware of financial issues. My father spent years working his was up the ladder in his job for the state agriculture program, when I was in second grade my mother went back to school to obtain her nursing degree. I was accustomed to them working multiple jobs at once to support my sister and I, which they always managed to do. Knowing all of this seeing the price of attending Boston University truly affected me. I know how much my parents have done for me and to have to ask them for such a huge sum of money seemed unfair. This scholarship would allow me to get closer to making my dream a reality. I hope to attend Boston University and get a degree in communications, a speciality of the school, get my masters degree with a focus on public relations, and then begin working in the field as a public relations
I also wanted to go to an in-state university, so that I could be close to my family. ASU was the only state school to offer such a program for students like me that are un-sure on which career path they want to take or need guidance pinpointing themselves to a certain area of study. I also feel that ASU being one of the biggest universities in the nation has many more opportunities for their students in contrast to going to a smaller
