cremated. Although there is no direct ban against cremation, the Bible speaks clearly about “ashes to ashes, dust to dust.” Christian tradition states that God created man from dirt and so the body will return to the earth. The Bible states: “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till
With today’s modern culture, death is a private event of mourning and grieving. We no longer as a community gather to celebrate the life of a late neighbor, instead this event is intended for family and close friends. We either bury our loved ones in a local cemetery or have their remains cremated and kept in an urn for viewing. The rituals performed by individuals in the event of a death have become superficial with a lack of meaning. The size of a headstone is only determined by how much money you have. The extravagance of the wake or any type of ceremony performed is determined by how much money you have. And for those who can’t even afford a burial and opt for cremation, the elegance of the urn used to hold the ashes of your loved one is once again determined by how much money you have. Death has become an event of profit, for if you truly love your departed relative you’ll buy the most expensive casket or the biggest
Today the society is looking for ways to ease life and to find solutions for problems which oppress our lives and make it hard to live through. Because of many reasons, the traditional burials in this century are becoming a problem. (Prothero,2001). The fact that they cover a lot of land to build cemeteries and other things that are attached to these traditional burials is enough for us to search for a practical solution. About a century ago the term "cremation" was unknown to many people. It is believed that it began to be practiced during the early Stone Age and still exists today. Since that time cremations have been made all
As a person approaches death they will often ask for a monk or nun to assist them as they make the transition from life
Here in the United states it is common to have a funeral, this usually being called a receiving friends and family, where people gather and morn the death of the lost. “The funeral service include prayers; reading from the Bible; hymns; and words of comfort by the clergy” (U.S. Funeral Customs & Traditions). The funeral is often times followed by a burial either same day or soon following and gatherings where people bring food for survivors of the lost. To other countries such as Africa and Scotland, the U.S. probably doesn't give the proper
Hindus “believe that a Jiva is made up of five elements of Prakriti which needs to be returned to their sources upon its death” (Jayaram). The four elements are fire, water, earth and air. All these elements are sacred to their bodies and also imitate their world. By cremating the bodies of the Hindus, “the elements are rightfully returned to their respective spheres” (Jayaram). Cremation has two purposes: “to ensure a soul’s happy migration and habitation in the other world and also saves its family members from the after effects of pollution” (Jayaram). When children die below a certain age, they are “buried upon death inside a tomb called Samadhi. Once the Samadhi is renouncer, it is placed in the river so that it undergoes the symbolic act of cremation”
I was amazed by the different variations of urns available at the Wilkerson Funeral Home & Crematory. Ashes could be stored in traditional urns, clocks, watches, and even jewelry. Scattering urns are meant to easily allow ashes to flow from the container whereas other boxes are biodegradable and meant to be placed in the ocean. Nevertheless, traveling urns were the most interesting to me as they resembled the traditional urn style, but just in a smaller size. Travel sized urns would allow for a great number of people to be able to have the ashes of one particular loved one in a family.
Mass burials or cremation are often the protocol for disposing dead bodies after a disaster, to prevent contamination. Although it is a quick method, personnel in charge of dead body management should treat each body with respect and properly identify each individual, and keep each body separate. Additionally, individuals who are caring for these bodies need to provide honest and accurate information throughout the recovery
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 2.5 million people died in year 2010 in the United States. Sometimes along with grief other negative factors come into play that people usually do not think about when they bury a loved one, such as negatively impacting the environmental. The majority of these documented cases had to receive a burial in some form or another usually causing waste and disruption in the ecosystem. There is an unpopular interment service in the U.S that creates less pollution called green burial or natural burial. Wikipedia defines a green burial or natural burial as, “[Natural burial is] the interment of the body of a dead person in the soil in a manner that does not inhibit decomposition but allows the body to recycle naturally. It is an alternative to other contemporary Western burial methods.” This form of burial has little to no impact on the ecosystem. Why not choose green burial? If more people choose green burial then there would be less pollution. If there is less pollution then the better off the environment would be. Therefore, if more people choose green burial then the better off the environment would be. This claim can be justified by two factors: resources used and pollution statistics.
