In The Sugar Film by Damon Gameau, have showed many ways on how people gain weight easily. Not only involves fat in order for a person to gain weight, but it is about sugars. Sugars have been around for many years, but there are foods that have too much added sugars. In the film is says that in supermarkets there is 20% out of 100% that contains sugar. This means that many Americans are eating many sugary goods and avoiding healthy food because now there taste buds is used to the amount of sweet the people intake.
In the movie, there are two parts of the movie that impact me the most. In the movie, it showed that in American it is hard for a person to be under a 40 tsp of sugar. This shows that many people can’t be healthy, but have to suffer the consequence of too much intake of sugar that can turn a person into obese. When Gameau started his research he was in a healthy range for his age, but as doing this documentary of sugars overall, we saw how much he gained weight overall in one month. This surprise me because he was eating food that were ‘healthy’, but have gained weight that it affected him. This affects everybody in so many ways because as you gain weight your body

In the documentary, it stated that in 1970, many companies hired many scientists. In order for an organization to get paid, scientists are being paid to not release evidence that can make the people stop buying their product. As Coca-Cola have many organizations they tend to pay many scientists to not release the issue about sugars. This is bad because one is tending to be healthy, but doesn’t know truly what the consequences of drinking this product are. There is sufficient information on how drinks are bad, but not a lot of people know the true cause of sugars. There should be more awareness for people about how sugar can affect a person’s life in the
The documentary “Fed Up” provides some important and disturbing details of the food industry. The 1977 heart disease and diet study known as the McGovern Report warned that the obesity rate was increasing rapidly due to American diets in fatty meats, saturated fats, cholesterol, and sugar. The food industry vehemently denied these claims, but the American people still demanded lower fat food products. The food manufacturers found that the fat removal made the food bland and unpalatable so to address this they replaced the fat content with sugar. Both the documentary and the Harvard Nutrition Source discuss the role sugar has in health conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. They both link the consumption of sugar as the causality for
Christianity experienced notable change during the Byzantine Era as a result of the fact that new ideas were introduced into the religion and because more and more cultural values from across the world started to pervade it. The religion was very different in Byzantium from how it was in the West principally because a series of Eastern ideas were adopted by Christian leaders. Christianity experienced a different development in the East when compared to the evolution that it experienced in the West. In the centuries lasting between the beginning of the Eastern half of the Roman Empire and the end of a small medieval state Christianity has practically been bombarded with Eastern ideas and with ideas that generally differed from the ones promoted in the West, eventually making it possible for "a distinct system of religious practice and devotion" (Krueger, 1) to emerge.
In their 2012 article, "The Toxic Truth about Sugar," Lustig et al argue that sugar, like alcohol, ought to be regulated by governments due to the harm it can cause to individuals' health and the public good. Their argument, at first glance, appears to be highly logical and virtually unassailable: alcohol is regulated because it is bad for health and causes other problems for society, and so sugar which is the cause of much greater and more pervasive health problems and is also detrimental to the social and cultural fabric of the peoples of the world in a variety of ways involving the agricultural industry and global development should also be carefully regulated and controlled. The researchers cite actions taken in other countries along the same lines as a further justification of their call for more control when it comes to sugar content and consumption, and clearly spell out some of the concrete harms that increased sugar consumption has had and will have on the world's population, not just in developed/industrialized countries but in all countries adopting similar diets. This adds up to a very compelling picture of the threat that sugar specifically and "junk food" (calorie-dense and nutritionally-lacking consumables) generally constitutes to the world population.
Overall, sugar consumption has increased immensely. We know that our health is worse than it was just two hundred years ago, and yet we do nothing more than add sugar. Sugar is not a good thing, and it’s even worse when we eat a lot of it. Sugar has had a negative effect on everyone, not only our youth. We, as a whole, eat way too much sugar and either need to eat less sugar, or eradicate it
I believe the points behind the objective may be true. For example, in ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’ although the juice ‘cleansing’ worked I believe that eating nutritious food would be a better alternative. I believe this because I think food and exercise is a better technique for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. ‘That Sugar Film’ however, shows fairly important information especially for parents who believe what they are feeding their kids is ‘healthy’. The films had people try their experiment to prove their points. And in some cases they discussed health issues that appeared. This occurred in ‘Forks over Knifes’ when the experts explained how an animal based diet can cause harm to the body. Such as cancer. Many of the health issues that appeared were caused by a poor diet. They tried resolving the health problems by trying different diets in each films. Although ‘That Sugar Film’ didn’t show a nutritious diet, it showed the effects of why we should look after our
In the documentary film “Fed Up”, sugar and the sweeteners in our food or beverages is featured to be the prime ingredient that is making the most of our adolescents obese. It tells of a few families struggling with obesity, and how these families have been trying to do everything they can to help their children lose weight. It shows what kind of food that they are eating at home and the weight problem that most of the family is struggling with. The food that is being served at schools and also the thousands of products that contain sugar, everywhere groceries are bought; sugar is the main cause for obesity. It tells that low wage earners have no choice, but to buy unhealthy food, because healthier food cost more. “The bottom line: cheap, unhealthy foods mixed with a sedentary lifestyle has made obesity the new normal in America. There is no single, simple answer to explain the obesity patterns in America, says Walter Willett, who chairs the department of nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health” article in the U. S. News. Although it does cost more, a school of public health wrote in an article, “While healthier diets did cost more, the difference was smaller than many people might have expected. Over the course of a year, $1.50/day more for eating a healthy diet would increase food costs for one person by about $550 per year. On the other hand, this price difference is very small in comparison to the economic costs of diet-related chronic diseases, which would be
In the article, “How The Food Industry Manipulates Taste Buds With 'Salt Sugar Fat'” it talks about the frightening truth that has been going on in the past few years with obesity and diabetes. Americans tend to have a huge addiction when it comes to food made with sugar, fat, salt, and as well as
The American diet is based mostly in processed food which contains enormous amount of sugar. The excessive consumption of sugar can cause diseases such as obesity, heart diseases, alzheimer, liver diseases, diabetes and others. One of the problems with the consumption of sugar is that people get sick progressively without the knowledge that it is caused by sugar. In addition, sugar is an addictive food and life without it is almost impossible. As a result, processed foods are cheaper than healthy food. It is hard to avoid processed food when Americans do not have time to cook because of their life style. Americans need to know the way to change their diet and improve their lifestyles. Americans sometimes forget about the amount of sugar that a soda or flavored drink contains. These drinks are tasty, but it will not satisfy thirst. Sugar is equally dangerous and has the same health effects than smoke cigarettes. Consume sugar in excessive amounts per day have a significant effect in Americans ' daily life. Americans should be aware of the diseases caused by their eating habits, therefore; they should be more conscious of what they eat and change their diet.
In today’s world we are seeing a growing concern for our younger generation that is growing up with the struggles of obesity, many of them are starting to deal with the same health issues that were isolated to adults just a few years ago. In the movie Fed Up the director Stephanie Soechtig wanted to open our eyes to the issue that has gone unnoticed for so long, that fact that the food industry has been hiding the truth about our eating habits. In the movie they spoke about, “how the soda industry fund research study that help to say that soft drinks have nothing to do with obesity” (Soechtig, 2014).
Summary: This documentary showed how sugar is as addicting as cocaine. By 2050, one in three people will be diagnosed with type two diabetes, where in 1980, there was zero reported cases. Companies know this information and reduced the fat, but doubled the sugar in their product.
This is a fact that is not only staggering, but also shocking that we’ve let this happen to the modern age what with all the technology that could perhaps help reduce this. Paragraph 3’s testimonial is in short order, the UN says that sugar is now in the same league of products as tobacco and alcohol, especially when consumed in large amount, can pose a serious health threat, however it is OK, but only if used in moderation.
Purpose: I want to persuade my audience that sugar is a dangerous drug that is damaging America?s health.
Purpose Statement: To inform my audience of the effect sugar has on the human body.
Sugar is, and has always been, unavoidable; conversely, sugar has not always been toxic. Naturally abundant and technically enhanced, this substance has followed in the footsteps of tobacco and alcohol, becoming just as unhealthy and ultimately lethal. And, without the implementation of government
Researchers who are publishing in the Journalist of the American Medical Association’s Internal Medicine have found that Americans who consume the most sugar are twice as likely to die from a heart disease compared to those of us who limit our sugar intake to about 160 calories a day. That is about 10 teaspoons.’ (http://www.npr.org/2014/02/05/271873707/you-may-be-eating-more-sugar-than-you-realize-and-thats-bad) (citaat)
