In this era of information overload, our brains are bombarded by so many different news outlets it can be difficult to choose which channel you want to watch. With all the accusations of liberal or conservative bias dominating the feuds between the cable news channels, it would be easiest to choose the channel that we believe best fits our own ideological views. When you look at MSNBC and Fox News the ideologies seem to be completely opposite, but they have some similarities. Both are accused of having either a liberal or a conservative bias and it is not very difficult to tell which side the outlet leans toward, because of their constant bickering back and forth.
Fox News Channel may have an abundance of conservative opinion programs

To some this seems absurd, but it is what his base group wants to hear. Whereas on the other side, you have pundits like Ed Schultz who never criticize the current president, no matter what follies he may commit, he only demonizes the previous one, again playing to the beliefs of his following. It is the constant bickering between the people of opposing political ideologies that make the news difficult for the common man to take with a grain of salt.
Beck often uses what seem to be scare tactics to get of his points across; whereas Schultz is more likely to give you his own opinion mixed in with some facts to make it all seem completely true. Neither method is successful in trying to create a balanced news outlet. In fact, the opinions of each side are grounded so far in the left or right that the middle is impossible to find. I purpose that Beck should visit MSNBC for a time, while Schultz takes a turn at FNC. Even though the notion of these dyed in the wool party supporters walking in the shoes of their polar opposites may seem absurd, but I believe that it would tone both of them down. I hope that it would give each a reality check and it would bring much needed balance to the cable channels. If the hosts were open to other people’s opinions, no matter how different they were from their own, it would make the American people feel more trusting toward news people in general and give both extremes a sense of
Hosts, reporters, and commentators dug at President Trump and his administration in almost every single story aired over the course of an hour and a half. MSNBC host Rachel Maddow eluded that Trump’s alleged ties with Russia “will come out soon,” but she omitted the word alleged, a move that could trigger a slander lawsuit. This framing by both MSNBC and Fox advance a political agenda. If a media consumer were to watch only one of these outlets, that consumer would hear only one view on the world. I believe these partisan outlets can cause closed-mindedness and advocate against those with different beliefs to work together.
MSNBC’s audience are liberals and democrats who care greatly about saving the environment from global warming. Many of the viewers appear to be both in the middle and left wing who are everyday people who were raised in a more progressive era. Meanwhile, viewers of Fox News are diehard conservatives who believe wholeheartedly that climate change is a tactic orchestrated by liberals to take away their political powers. In a sense, it appears as though Fox News appeals to older and predominantly white, rich males who grew up before the progressive era. Fox News expressed their personal testimony more openly, which allows them to deflect the attention of the audience away from the issue, while MSNBC sticks to the topic at hand and supplies a plethora of statistics for their audience. Fox News logos and pathos appeal is more effect than MSNBC because they make statements that disturb viewers peace of minds. However, MSNBC is clearly more effective in winning over their audience due to the highly educated commentators they use to make their point across. It is apparent after the examination of these four transcripts that broadcast networks apply their own bias opinions into a form of current events that is supposed to remain unbiased and
Let’s see, FOX philosophy; Republican party is the only true rulers of this nation. Democrats are socialists. Homosexuality is bad. Organized religion is good, except when the pope speaks out. Gretchen Carlson is rebellious and does not follow the directions of the master of FOX. Black people and other minority groups should not own weapons while (angry) white people can. A black president is a error in history and will not be spoken off again.
Even only listening to Fox, Herman Cane, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity I would be getting plenty of political coverage of liberals. Fox News has many liberal commentators who are on the “conservative” network and regularly state the left-wing point of view. Rush and Sean, for instance, inform their listeners of liberal views perfectly plain if one is listening. Fox News itself has hosted many liberals Tamara Holder, ( a
Often times people utilize certain sources and watch certain news channels because these viewers can relate to the views on these sources. It can make one believe that his/her perspective is correct simply because that is what the new source is providing. Viewers watch news sources that share the same opinions as their own, because these viewers are just as bias as the sources; these viewers favor one side, as do the news sources. John Stossel, a Fox News reporter discusses the book “Bias” with author Bernie Goldberg, an ex CBS News reporter. John expected for ABC to read the book and disagree with Bernie on the ABC news channel (Goldberg and Stossel). However, these people were proud of not reading the book and gave it no attention. Even if one does not agree with a certain viewpoint, it is very important to hear the different perspectives because it allows the viewer to see and hear other people’s opinion. Because most news sources do not include all sides, it becomes difficult for an individual to
The PBS anchor was one woman with little to no makeup on, and dressed more conservative, while on the fox news there were two anchors, a man and a woman dressed more professional with a suit and the woman wearing a little more revealing dress. When delivering the news, PBS has their stories last approximately ten minutes and for this specific day, they focused more about France and their presidential election while the fox news touched the surface on France but talked about a shooting that occurred over there. The fox news lacked detailed stories because jumped to recent events rather quickly. For example, Fox talked about wall street, the weather, France, tragic events and deaths, for less than 10 minutes each, making it hard to understand the importance of each event. While the anchors from Fox would communicate with a third person located in another area to give their reports, the PBS anchor gives a more intimate connection with her reports, by showing the events that are occurring then talking about them right after, she would also give interviews with people one on one, like she did with the united nation security general. The news being distributed in different ways, the Fox news hold a more emotional appeal to their viewers because the audience who watch fox news are from around the area and are familiar with the events that occur. The Fox news give the stories and weather updates that the local viewers need to know because it has a relevant purpose to their lives, compared to the PBS news, that gives educational but irrelevant news because their news does not provide current issues that can affect the viewer’s life. The PBS news gives an appeal to facts rather than an emotional appeal because it states facts that happen around the world but not about close events that can connect to the viewer personally. Overall the news is a
The clip from SNL illustrates President Obama in a very different light. In this video, actors from SNL perform a skit showing Obama going on several TV interviews to promote his health care plan to “as wide an audience as possible.” He says, “I don’t want to shut anyone out of this debate,” and goes on various interviews, many of which are completely ridiculous. However, when asked, “How about Fox News?” he immediately replies,
There were distinct ideological beliefs presented in the articles. MSNBC is very progressive and sees the Democratic party as infallible. In their narrative Republicans are evil, stupid, and racist. If Obama says "jump", MSNBC is already falling off the bridge. CNN tries to present itself as unbiased but fails. It is not an utter failure. At some points the facade of neutrality is believable. But their pro-establishment bias is strong. I felt like they preferred Democrat's; but in a Republican presidence the roles may reverse. Finally Fox News i very conservative and pro-Republican. While CNN and MSNBC treat Obama as a strong leader, Fox contrasts this with depictions of a weak man. Fox was the oppisite extreme of MSNBC. It really just felt
Fox News is a known conservative outlet. In some people’s opinion they aren’t too reliable. However, their website is put together nicely and is easily accessible. In an article about Bernie Sanders they would say things “Has the Bernie Sanders phenomenon reached the point where the media have to take it more seriously?” (Kurtz, Howard. "The Bernie Boom: Why Sanders Is Shattering the Media's Expectations." Fox News. FOX News Network, 06 Oct. 2015. Web. 15 Nov. 2015.) That is obvious bias, claiming that Sanders hasn’t been taken seriously until now. Fox News also would not show full quotes of Sanders, but instead they would quote just a word. ("Bernie Sanders Takes Aim at 'greedy' Koch Brothers." Fox News. FOX News Network, 22 Aug. 2015. Web. 15 Nov. 2015) When you search “Bernie Sanders” on Fox News’ website one article comes up and it’s about Bernie Sanders themed underwear, professional. If you are a democrat you would most likely not use Fox News to get your news.
Liberals and conservatives support the media especially in the news. Audiences usually lean towards a news station that has viewers of the same political standpoint. For instance, a large percentage of conservative viewers watch mainly Fox news. Conservatives typically cluster around one news source. In this case, it is Fox News. Opposed to conservatives who are weary of different sources, liberals can trust a variety of different types of media such as MSNBC, ABC, and CBS. But it’s not just news stations. Newspapers also lean towards a political
They should set aside their own ego and ideology, because the main priority is to give the audience as much information as possible so they are able to analyze the situation to the fullest extent and then come up with their own judgement. When this information came out about Obama putting a travel ban on Iraq, my reaction wasn't "Oh my god I'm ashamed that the liberal media didn't show me this, let's protest against Obama." My reaction was "Why wasn't I told about this sooner?" Because everyone has an agenda. Fox News wouldn't report on the Iraq ban because it would go against their narrative about Obama being a Muslim sympathizer. In matter of fact, if you go on to Youtube right now, most of the videos uploaded on this topic started just three days ago, and better yet, if you go onto Google and type in "Obama Iraq ban Fox News," the only reports posted on the matter are a couple of days old as well. This Executive Order was placed back in 2011. Six years later and now majority of the people are just now finding out about
However, there are broadcasters at Fox News like, Chris Wallace on Sunday mornings with integrity and have no fear of political retaliation. Wallace gives the American people the whole truth and not journalistic half-truths. “The Boston Globe, describes Wallace as an equal opportunity inquisitor”. “The Washington Post states that Chris Wallace is an aggressive journalist, sharp edged and solid,” and the Miami Herald describes Wallace as an “equal-opportunity ravager” (Chris). Before, joining Fox News, Wallace worked at ABC News for 15
Both of the texts Making Sarah Cry and Don’t Give Up The Fight both have the common theme of being different. Both characters in the stories are both being different because they are both trying to fit in with everyone but since they look or are different from the other people they don’t want to be around them. Although the theme is the same, they both handle it very differently. In Don’t Give Up The Fight Ava sticks up for herself and doesn’t want other people to help her but, in Making Sarah Cry Sarah sticks up for another person instead of herself.

Conflict is defined as the behaviour due to which people differ in their feelings, thought and/or actions. Collins (1995) states that the conflict is a ‘serious disagreement and argument about something important’ and also as ‘a serious difference between two or more beliefs, ideas or interests’ (cf. Kumaraswamy, 1997, p. 96). In general it is believed that conflicts are the underlying cause of disputes. In other words, dispute is a manifestation of the deep rooted conflict. A dispute is defined as ‘a class or kind of conflict, which manifests itself in distinct, justifiable issues. It involves disagreement over issues capable of resolution by negotiation, mediation or third party adjudication’
