Fight For The Truth Play Analysis

We as the audience are engaged in an upfront manner by the individual concerns and social issues through our chosen texts the characters in Fearless and Stolen. Stolen written by Jane Harrison is an indigenous text which explores issues which arose as a result of the forced removal of Aboriginal children, this is showcased by 5 children perspective. Fearless by Mirra Todd explores stories about people we wouldn’t give a second look at, it also shows the struggles of some society’s outcasts. These two texts allow the audience to see and engage with what many Australians face every day. ’Stolen’ is a play filled with powerful short moments which tell the audience the effects of a child removed from all that they know, their identity being stripped away and moulded into something foreign.

Doubt is a play written by John Patrick Shanley, and the story revolves around a strict nun (Sister Aloysius), who suspects that a priest (Father Flynn); respectively, has done something very inappropriate to Donald Muller; a 12 year old boy who is the the only African American student at this Catholic school. Based upon a few details she came across and a lot of certainty that was displayed, Sister Aloysius recruits a young, nun (Sister James) in order to help assist her in looking for suspicions and keeping an eye out for Father Flynn. She even went as far as alerting Donald's mother, who surprisingly I might add, wasn't appalled nor shocked, by the comments. In Joseph Scapellato’s new play When Push Comes to Shove, performed for the first time at Bucknell University on February 19th, 2016, violence — the nature of it and its influence on otherwise seemingly normal humans — is explored. In this play, a group of college students embark on an annual camping trip to Pit Cave in an attempt to meet the ghost, When Push Comes to Shove. The place soon begins to have an effect on the student’s mental being, however, and the violence permeating the cave permeates the characters on stage, leading finally to fatal battles and the recognition of the need for escape.

“When doubt starts to creep in, take a moment to pray” (Unknown). Doubt; an uncertain feeling. A feeling and theme that is shown throughout John Patrick Shanley’s award winning and popular play, Doubt. The play center’s around a Catholic Church in the Bronx in 1964, where a question still stands on whether or not a priest named Father Flynn is guilty on having an improper relationship and having made improper advances on a black male student; Donald Muller. However, the play and the film never reveal if Father Flynn is guilty or not for committing this wrongdoing, Shanley leaves it up to us to decide and it’s evident that Father Flynn did indeed have an improper relationship and has made improper advances towards Donald Muller.

During a Christmas play in December 2015, an actress noticed a young cast member who showed passion for theater and asked if she wanted to audition for Legend of Sally B, a play that would begin meeting in the following January. The actress who reached out would be directing the play and was in search of a committed fourteen-year-old girl to portray a character that could appear frustrated with her life. There was one girl who thought she could accurately become that character.

“The Producers” is one of the most famous musicals in Broadway. Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan adapted the musical from the 1968 film of the same name. The musical is about two producers that oversell interest in a Broadway flop in order to become wealthy. The musical consist in play with in the musical. The producers, Max and Leo, choose the worst play ever written and the worst director. However, the play turns out to be successful and Max goes to jail and Leo escapes with the money to Rio. The two more important external event in the play are the event when Leo decides to help Max and the moment when the play becomes a success.

On April 26, 2017 I went to see the play “We Hold These Truths.” The play was about young people’s reactions to Donald Trump winning the elections and their experiences with racism.

I chose the All in the Timing and the play Sure thing. The setting of the scene is in a small café, so I placed just a regular brown table with two regular wooden chairs in the middle of the stage. I placed it in the middle so that everybody could see what is going on and because that is where everything takes place. And on top of the table I have a small cup of coffee in a purple cup, I chose purple because when I drink coffee at home I drink out of my purple mug. In the center of the table I have placed a pink vase with a red rose in it, pink because I connect pink with the color red and I chose red for the rose because most roses are red. On Friday, October 16th at 7:30pm, a friend and myself saw the play Proof. This play took place at the UW-La Crosse Center for the Arts and David Auburn created this romantic drama production. The plot of this story takes place in a house in Chicago and only has four characters who have leading roles in the play; Catherine, Robert, Claire, and Herold Dobbs. Catherine, who has inherited her late father’s mathematical brilliance, but is haunted by the fear that she might also share his life-threatening mental illness. She has spent years caring for her now-deceased father, and upon his death, she feels left alone to pick up the pieces of her life without him. After watching the play “The Wit,” I was filled with mixed emotions. When I first encountered wit, as a freshman, I didn't realize how poorly the doctors were treating Vivian Bearing; I just thought they were just doing they're job. Not having the same mindset as I did back when I was a freshman, I could now see the numerous amounts of professional mistakes made by staff who came across Doctor Bearing while she was at the hospital. Its truly unfortunate when the people who must take care of you when you're at your weakest don't even see you as a person. When one of the doctors called Vivian “research,” it caught me by surprise and made me so angry because she wasn't a lab rat, she was a person who was suffering greatly. In addition to that

I have been playing soccer for seven years and every game is different. Being a goalie the team depends on me to keep the goal safe. I am one of the most important players on the field, but I am also one of the most ridiculed and sometimes most hated player on the field. The whole team counts on me to save every goal, when I can not I know they are disappointed in me as I am disappointed in myself. The ball hitting the back of the net behind me has always been my biggest downfall because I blame myself not my team, and I feel they blame me too.

When planning and providing play opportunities for children and young people, the goal is not to eliminate risk, but to weigh up the risks and benefits. Play is important for children’s well-being and development. It’s also important to provide some risk taking challenging opportunities for all children and young people to encounter or create uncertainty, unpredictability, and potential hazards as part of their play and growing up.

This is a must watch Broadway show that makes your fine, terrible, or even boring day, an absolute blast. The Play That Goes Wrong has finally made its way to America and right at the heart of New York City near Times Square at the Lyceum Theatre. Therefore, the experience is a win-win situation for the audience. The Lyceum Theatre’s architecture is astonishing as it is filled with ornaments, I also realized the letter ‘L’ around the theater, but the most interesting fact is that it is a landmark. It has a proscenium stage while the audience is in the orchestra, balcony, or the mezzanine seats, like where I sat, and there is barely any space if you are a tall person. My seat was near the far end of mezzanine, I couldn’t see a part of the left side of the stage, so I found myself bending sideways to see what was going on, but I saw nothing. I found the side stage lights and a side balcony blocking my view and yet I had a great time.

Barnes(1020), argues that the ‘Fences’ is one of the few plays that exposes reality as opposed to the usual confines of art as in most of the plays. According to Barnes, the play is full of life intimations, the society’s images as well as a man’s impressions. The author vividly exposes on the experiences of blacks while in America. Using Troy Maxson, a hero in the play, he explains how the delayed civil movements delayed the dreams of this black in America, Troy. Barnes explains that Troy was once a refugee from the South who turned to be a thief and finally a murderer ending up in a jail where he learned baseball.

On October 19th, 2017, I had the honor to attend the Indiana State University production of A Piece of My Heart. This play could be considered a historical documentary and was full of drama, thrill, and action. A Piece of My Heart was originally written by Shirley Lauro, a very popular play writer with many other well-known plays. The play was based around 6 extremely strong and opinionated women who were sent to the Vietnam War to either help or entertain the American Men. Consisting of 5 army nurses, one country singer, and multiple different army men the production was able to provide a full understanding of how life was in Vietnam during the war. This play was performed by Indiana State University students.
