I thought I knew what I was going to go through when I signed up to become a CIA operative; this changed when I went on my first field training excersise. I woke up one morning in a small hotel room in Istanbul. Alone, with about five hundred dollars in my pocket and a fake passport. I didn't speak a single word of Turkish. My handler was in the city, but if I contacted him, I would be forced to find a new career. In exactly ten months, I was supposed to return to the same hotel to meet a friend who would take me out of the country. My passport told me that I was Emir Askoy, a thirty-four year old man. I quickly packed up my things and then left the hotel. My first priority would be to find a way to learn the language. While I was walking down the streets, I walked by a library. I thought I could find a language book or a turkish to english dictionary in there, so I went in. …show more content…
I walked up and down the isles of bookshelves trying to find any kind of book that I could read. While looking I could not find any book that was in English. I left the library and continued walking down the street to hopefully find something. While I was walking down the sidewalk, a lady stopped me. "Affedersiniz?" the lady asked "Sorry, I dont speak Turkish." "A vaction in Turkey without knowing the language? Thats odd." "Its hard to explain, and I dont want to explain it. Do you know where I can find a tutor to teach me?" "You're in luck, I happen know where a tutor is." "Can I see them?" "Sure, follow me. My name is Leyla by the
The athletic training profession as we know it today first came into existence during the late nineteenth century with the establishment of intercollegiate and interscholastic athletics in the United States. (Prentice, 2014) Prior to this, early civilization athletics were unorganized. Although they were unorganized, there is information that suggests that Greek and Roman civilizations featured people who assisted athletes in reaching their peak physical condition. The evolution of intercollegiate athletics after World War I led to a new demand to prevent and manage athletic injuries. (Prentice 2014)
This year the opportunity to look into my future arose, and I acted on it. I was given the opportunity to job shadow an athletic trainer at Northwest Nazarene University. Athletic trainers, or ATs, are health care professionals that work alongside physicians to provide preventative care, emergency aid, clinical diagnosis, and rehabilitation to injuries. I have chosen to study this career because I have been involved in athletics since the fifth grade, and I want to stay involved in athletics for a very long time.
I have chosen to study athletic training because it allows me to still participate and be involved in sports as well as be able to help athletes recover from injuries while gaining valuable clinical experience for physical therapy. Growing up I have always had a love for sports but I have not been graced with the abilities to become a professional athlete. With my love for sports as a youth I watched a lot on television with my father and I would see athletes get injured and medical personnel rush out to their aid. When I found out they were athletic trainers and physical therapists, I knew that is what I wanted to do when I grew up. All throughout high school I was involved in sports and unfortunately had an injury or two. Although our school did not have an athletic trainer, I went to many different specialists and
When I was applying to colleges, I was confident in my decision to major in Athletic Training. Science had always been my favorite subject in school and becoming an Athletic Trainer was a way to combine my love of science with my love of sports. I knew I wanted to have a career in which I could help people. Working with athletes to provide preventative services, emergency care, therapy and rehabilitation seemed the perfect way to combine all of those interests. Growing up, sports were always a big part of my life.
I have known that I wanted to work in the health science field for as long as I can remember, and with a more active population in specific since late middle school or early high school. As the story goes for most of us, I have played sports since I could walk and being a multisport athlete, and therefore working out just about every aspect of my body, I have been injured countless times. In 2012 I had three concussions in the span of 6 months and ended up going to concussion physical therapy and spending a lot of time with my school’s athletic trainer as I would still go to practices and games to support my team but could not participate. Physical therapy spiked my interest first. I loved how much better concussion physical therapy made me
Choosing a vocation can be a daunting task. With the world ever-evolving, one may come across a new attractive career every year. In order to ensure optimal job satisfaction, it is vital to educate oneself about every alluring prospect prior to committing. Simple factors like the time commitment and salary can mean the difference between a content existence and a miserable one.
As an athletic trainer, I relied heavily on my adaptability in order to be successful. I learned this lesson early in my experience working as a graduate assistant with the softball team at Lindenwood University - Belleville. While athletic trainers are vital components to an athletic program’s success and safety, athletic trainers must frequently meet the demands of the teams and coaching staffs they work with. This requires being ready and willing to change your schedule whenever necessary. Working an outdoor sport made this trait even more important, as games and practice times changed frequently solely based on weather conditions. On multiple occasions with the softball team this spring, practice or game times changed due to uncontrollable
I walked over to a corner of the room where I saw a pile of books that looked like they were carelessly thrown on the ground. I gently started to dig through them. Getting closer to the bottom of the pile, I saw a solid, crimson red book. I picked up the book and began reading the first few pages. I instantly loved it. I left the room with the book in my hands and hurried down the stairs to my mom. With a smile stretched across my innocent face, I looked up at my mother.
One day I had the sudden urge to go workout on the treadmill, so I hopped in my car and drove over to the Bexley Creekside Apartment gym. I walked in and noticed Jamaal training a client. I had a few fitness goals I wanted to achieve so I decided to ask for his business card. Little did I know that one action would change my life forever.
Athletic training includes the prevention, examination, treatment and healing/repairing of newly-seen, sudden and short-term or long-lasting injuries and medical conditions. “I doubt it,” I replied and continued reading. If they did, I didn’t care, reading took me places, safe, and far from the harrowing home.
I was fortunate enough to work with the one and the only, the badass himself- Hector Lopez. He showed me the way of the beast. As his protégé, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that could not be obtained in the classroom. One of the most challenging aspects that I came across as a personal trainer was dealing with people’s misconception of weight loss. I quickly found that a lot of individuals have unrealistic expectations when it comes to weight loss.
There are no degrees that are specific to becoming a personal trainer, but there are a few bachelor programs that lend themselves to the careers of trainers. These degree programs prepare trainers to be fitness experts by having specialized classes dealing with how the body moves effectively, and how it responds to that movement. While some trainers are only required to have a certificate, many employers will only hire those with extensive education and a degree from a reputable institution.
It all started on June 2014, I was uncomfortable in my own skin. I was underweight and was always out of breath. I ran like a turtle. At that time, I weighed only 115 pounds. I wanted to make a change for the better, wanting a better lifestyle. So I decided to sign up for the gym. That day changed my life forever. The gym made me fit, healthier, but most importantly it made me a better person which is who I am today.
It was in the afternoon of this cold and grey day, I was minding my own business, putting the books on their shelf and tidying up the place. I saw a book in the middle of the shelf half sticking out, how unusual I thought to myself. Then I started to hear footsteps run down the stairs. So I try to find the person to give them their book.
