I am a feminist.
I can see that man over there already shaking his head, so allow me to define “feminism” for you. Feminism, by definition, is the social belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. That’s not too bad, right? If you’re still shaking your head after getting that definition, then let’s have a little chat after this, okay?
The reason I chose to define feminism for you is because of the misconceptions people have of the word. People think of feminism with a negative connotation. People think of it as a group of women who think they are better than men. But that’s not actually the case. Ever since the term “feminism” was used for the women’s rights movement, the word has been one to promote women’s activism in society. It was never meant to downgrade men. People will think feminism to be what I said earlier - the downgrading of men. Other women believe in feminism - but only for white women, because apparently black women are undeserving of equality to men and white women. Go figure. This isn’t the point of feminism though. Feminism is the equality of all women and men, and I have absolutely no time for racism. And ain’t I a feminist?
