During the late 18 centuries, society became more aware of serial murders. At first, the term of serial murder was only referred to men with specific causes and motives that influenced them to commit such heinous crimes. The main motive to commit homicide was based on sexual fantasies. However, years later, women did fall into this category of serial murders but defying the main motive that characterized men serial killers. The misconceptions that that female serial killers do not exits and that woman’s nature does not let the to engaged in such bestial acts have been discarded. FSKs and MSKs share some common motives that influence them to commit such heinous crime. Hatred, manipulation domination, along with the satisfaction of power and control over their victims are some of those motives that FSKs and MSKs have in common. However, their main motives are not the same. Male serial killers are influenced by sexual motives to commit murder. In contrast to female serial killers (FSKs) their main motive is financial gain accompanied with pleasure. However, both ended up feeling pleasure at the time of killing their victims. According to Fox and Levin (1999), serial murder may function as a source of pleasure by obtaining gratuitous power one individuals the perpetrator views as less than human” (Ferguson, et, al, 2003). Some other difference between male and female serial killers are their victims; males commonly prey stranger individuals as their victims while females kill people that is more known to them such as spouses, elder people, their own children and other relatives. According to Schurman-Kauflin (2000), “FSK tend to select those who are already powerless, increasing the FSKs perceived sense of control” (Harrison, et al, 2015). Researches has shown a variation regarding female murders relationship status no married, widow, divorced, or single woman is exempt of being a serial murder. Women from ordinary occupations such as midwife and employed all to educational and professional workers had commit homicide. Some of those professional women are nurses, secretaries or work with infants. Based on research, women with higher education such as college are most likely to engage on serial murders because they are in constant interaction with defenses people. This is one of the reasons why older and people with ill are target by female serial killers because their lack of physical strength motivates women to demand silent but dangerous power over them. White and Lester (2012) noted, “women are four times more likely than man to drug their victims, as it may be easier for them to subdue their targets in this way” (Harrison, et al (2015). Those women are known as the “angels of death” because they used gentle and discrete means of murder such as lethal injections to carry out their execution.
