On Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. I attended Ballet Hispanico at the Detroit Opera House. Ballet Hispanico was founded in 1970 by Venezuelan born dancer, Tina Ramiez after identifying the need to provide Latino dancers with access to training and performance opportunities. Ballet Hispanico is recognized as one of the country’s top Latino dance organizations. Over the past 40+ years, it has provided dance education and outreach programs to New York communities to engage interested residents in a guided exploration of dance and Latino cultures by expanding their knowledge in aesthetic awareness, cultural appreciation, and self-expression.

Since the school is not enrolled with a very diverse population, the staff created a very multicultural environment for the students to explore and learn in. The staff felt that even though the school is undiverse, the world is not and the students need to be educated in this area. The staff worked very hard at coming up with activities to teach multicultural issues. One example of how multicultural diversity was taught was through a “Foods from Around the World” lesson. This was a weekly lesson where the students learned about different countries by sampling their native foods. Each family was asked to donate

We were the center of attention. This was our moment—our time—to make a statement on the raging political events. It was evident from the speechless, astonished faces of the audience that we were successful. I smiled as I watched my activism and dance group, Bailamos, dance with pride on the stage. After all the countless hours of organizing dance routines and spreading the Hispanic-Latino culture throughout school, I was finally able to witness the outcome for myself.
Have you noticed beautiful orangeries in Frankby and wondered what it would be like to have one on your own property? An orangery is more than an addition for growing plants, it can be used as another room on your property. You could use it as a sunroom, enjoying a lazy afternoon with a good book, regardless of the weather. It could be used as a study or a sitting room. The possibilities are endless. When you decide that it is time to add an orangery to your home, speak to the experts – Ultra-Seal.
Although many dances forms of Native American social and ceremonial dance survived, many were lost in the process. The lost dances are a presentation of lot identity and culture. Therefore, incorporating Native American dance will all my students to cultivate an appreciation and awareness of a forgotten people and culture of the first true Americans. Additionally, an aspect of Native American culture that I will incorporate in to my teaching of physical education, is the game of lacrosse. For many Native American tribes, lacrosse isn’t just a sport, but instead part of their culture and their religion.
Edward Burtynsky was born in Ontario, Canada in 1955. His parents had migrated to Canada from Ukraine in 1951 to start a new life. His dad found work at an assembly line for General motors, which fascinated him with man-made creative systems. As a kid, he would watch the boats pass by the Welland Canal, and was fascinated by all of the colors and lights. As he grew up, he continued to find the mix of the natural world and the man-made wonders incredibly interesting. This interest would stick with him for the rest of his life, career, and story.
A cultural event that I have attended in the past that has had a memorable affect on my life was a Native American Powwow. This event takes place every year, Thanksgiving weekend in Tucson, AZ. I arrived in the late afternoon, as the sun was going down. I remember seeing many different types of people, from tourists to the different Native American performers. The physical setting of this particular celebration was outside, and based around, one main circle. Drums were beating so loud, you could feel the pound inside your chest. Different activities were going on all around, such as dancers, vendors, and a huge variety of foods to choose from. The circular dancing arena is known as the arbor, this area is blessed before any of the events
Celebration of nations is a festival that goes on every year in Rolla Missouri. This event involves a parade with flags representing more than 80 nations. This is an all day event. It celebrates different cultures and the whole community gets involved. The university, Missouri S&T is this host of this event. At the end of the parade there is always an announcer that explains the main purpose for the festival and welcomes each flag. They do this festival because several students from different nations attend the university. With this being a college town, this gives the community an opportunity to get involved and notice the students representing a different nation. “Getting involved in the Celebration of Nations event is not only easy, but also very rewarding. Whether you are an American or international student, a member of the faculty or staff at S&T, or a resident of the larger Rolla community, everyone is welcome to join the festivities” (Missouri S&T).
