Fascism is a problem that originated in the early 1920’s and rose to worldwide prominence during World War II. Leaders who are fascists run an authoritative, hierarchy government and dictate with harsh nationalist, racist, prejudiced power. Although fascism was viewed as a horrible attribute after the Holocaust, some leaders, or even regular everyday people demonstrate signs that they are becoming a fascist. Fascism may seem like a “thing of the past” or “so last century”, but it is still something that should be avoided for years to come. Fascism has proved to be a problem in the past, but it can be obliterated, with the message of human equality, natural rights, and responsibilities. In 1922, Italian prime minister, and the new Fascist …show more content…
The world’s population outlawed fascism decades ago, and because of this, people tend to deny it when it is really happening right in front of their faces. This problem is what a smart woman once called “hidden fascism”. Even some political leaders are showing worrisome signs of fascism in this century. For example, US Presidential Candidate, Donald Trump, has stated that he would like to build a wall on the border of the United States of America, and Mexico, if he is elected president. This statement could be considered as “bigoted and supremacist”, however a great majority of Americans do agree, and vote for him. An article that describes the “14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism”, states that one is a “disdain for the recognition of human rights”, and another states “identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause”. The nerve-racking point to stress upon, is that some top political leaders in the world demonstrate fascist characteristics, and millions of people support these ideas. These 14 characteristics do not just apply to politics, but if a peer possesses one of these characteristics, it is showing that our generation could be blindingly reintroducing the fascist ideas. At least in the days of the glory of fascism, Hitler and Mussolini acknowledged their wrongdoings, and that they were fascists. Now, people cannot admit that they possess qualities of a fascist, and they do not understand it, consequentially giving the world a sneak peek of how the future rulers could end
Source 1 contrasts liberalism through supporting fascism. The source is contrasting one of the liberals main ideas, Freedom of choice. Liberalism focuses on the freedom of the individual and that choices that regard the individual should be made by the individual or majority. The quotes is suggesting that through a general election, the chances of a good leader being chosen are rare. He suggests a specific individual will be born a leader. In the first sentence of the quote, Hitler talks about the way a general election works. He calls it absurd and in turn is saying how a general election is not a good way to elect a leader. This shows the resistance to liberalism as liberalism believes in a general election as it backs up
One extremely comparable aspect of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini’s reign was their rise to power. Both Mussolini and Hitler used misleading tactics like manipulation and propaganda to increase their followers and seize the country's power. Mussolini and Hitler would often use the public's struggle and misfortune to their advantage. Since followers believed the empty promises that the leaders would advertise, they would sign up to take a position in terrorizing individuals who opposed the movements. Mussolini would appoint his “blackshirts” the job of campaigning while Hitler would use his Nazi followers to do the job. Often, people who opposed their ideas through media would be found and murdered as
The rise of fascism in Germany in the 1930’s and the acts of aggression and atrocities committed by the Nazis during the Second World War led to questions being asked as to why some people where prone to such levels of violence and hate in the name of political ideology. The ‘Authoritarian Personality’ was a concept suggested in 1950 by German sociologist Theodor Adorno and colleagues following their research identifying the personality traits believed to allow an individual to be bias towards and follow a fascist ideology. Although initially met with great excitement, over time the authoritarian personality alone
With the Global Depression invading the lives of millions of Europeans, unstable economies and famished citizens turned to new solutions. In a race to exploit the dissatisfaction of society, several political leaders stepped up to the plate to introduce fascism, playing off heavy nationalist virtues as these leaders riled up entire nations, sparking World War II. The rise of fascism in Europe during the 1930’s was heavily documented and criticized by Americans who stood by the natural right to freedom of speech, something fascist governments denied. In his largely critical article for the Atlantic Monthly, esteemed writer Walter Lippmann indirectly attacks fascism and expertly argues for his audience to support the freedom of speech by battling

However, this view makes one who loves freedom into a fascist. Denying rights to those you disagree with you are no better than those who you claim to despise. It is important to remember that the German Nazis made banning opposing views their first step to total control, under the pretext they inspired terrorism and violence. Those who stand for freedom must do it on principle, not popularity.
“Fascism has as an underlying economic purpose the preservation of Capitalism and the prevention of Socialism. To prevent even the discussion of Socialism or Communism all democratic liberties are destroyed. The most influential profit makes form a partnership with the Fascist politicians for the complete control of the state so that the power of police and soldiers may be used to punish all dissenters.” (Miller, p.74)
To understand Fascism better, it is basically a spiritual attitude. It sees not only the individual but also the nation and
In the 20th century totalitarian governments had come to power in Italy, Germany, and the Soviet Union. These governments had forced their political authority and centralized control over all aspects of life (Document 3 and 6). The government had imposed public gatherings to invade people’s lives and indoctrination of totalitarian ideas had influenced youth organizations and literature to help the government gain authority over one’s country (Document 2). One method used by totalitarian dictatorship is having mass rallies and speeches. The totalitarian government that used these method leaders was Benito Mussolini of Italy and Adolf Hitler of Germany.
The following six characteristics allow for one to easily determine if a country is an authoritarian or totalitarian model: one hierarchical party, an ideology that drives all information, government policy decisions, and education, propaganda that is carried out by a complete control of the media, violence that is carried out by an official secret police, tightly controlled armed forces, and central control of the economy or resources. After carefully analyzing each aspect of these characteristics along with the history of Mussolini’s rule in Italy from the 1930s through 1945, one can easily determine that this is an example of a totalitarian
Many people have sought to evaluate the vulnerabilities associated with states and markets that are under totalitarianism, which is a political system in which the state holds total authority over the society. First developed in 1920 by the Italian fascists, and in particular Benito Mussolini, who ruled Italy for over twenty years, totalitarianism embossed the minds of those who lived under it. This system was conceptualized mainly to highlight the similarities between Nazi Germany and other fascist states. There’s one underlying difference that one must understand for one to assess the restrictions that totalitarianism puts on one’s liberty. One should realize that totalitarianism states are states where there is a single party rule, where a dictatorship is type of government in which a single person rules. Aldous Huxley and George Orwell are famous authors who opposed totalitarianism, and through their philosophical ideals, attempted to inform people of the dangers faced by society under this restricting system, where people are inhibited from holding any sort of authority. George Orwell, in 1984, discusses concerns relating to big government and big brother and Aldous Huxley, in Brave New World, discusses predatory markets impinging on our personal freedoms. Through their works, they attempt to question societal beliefs on brute force and physical coercion verses the manipulation of preferences and tastes leading to willing submission. George Orwell and Aldous Huxley each
America possesses many faults; however, this nation also remains very successful. The political system seems more advanced compared to others. This country advocates for freedom and human rights. Unfortunately, the prestige decimates as this past election coincides with a joke, a joke that no one desires to hear and longs to surpass before the memories form. Donald Trump wins the election and citizens question whether Obama possesses the ability to serve another term. Nonetheless, the newly elected President remains the public figure who moves me towards action. Donald Trump encourages my involvement in politics, education of white privilege, and perseverance to defend others.
History has detrimental spots. As millennials, we remember horrific social spots in history’s timeline in comparison to economic and political tragedies. Elie Wiesel, a recently deceased human rights activist and a target himself in the Nazi Final Solution, in his Nobel Peace Prize winning speech said, “When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must – at that moment – become the center of the universe.” When growing up, one of the horrific social spots that we recollect is the events of World War II and the Holocaust. We do not remember the detrimental effects on the economy or the rise and
Antifa is a far-left, extra parliamentary, and anti-fascist organization with a history that dates back a century. Anti-fascist groups emerged as a response to fascism, driven to resist fascist control “by any means necessary,” and view any manifestation of fascism as a potential virus that must be stopped. They believe that the phenomenon of fascism can experience exponential growth in numbers and influence, arguing that Italy’s Mussolini and Hitler’s Third Reich had quite “humble” beginnings and meek political turnouts before they snowballed to the tyrannical regimes they became. According to them, the viral nature of fascism is a constant threat that must be confronted to stifle the growth of authoritarian nationalism; believing it had a strong hypnotic effect on a vulnerable audience and quickly skyrocketed to the upper echelons of political and social life.
Fascist movements set out to create a new type of total culture in which values; politics, art, social norms and economic activity are all part of a single organic community. In this way fascism is directly opposed to consevatism. The fascist movements in Italy and Germany also represented attempts to create revolutionary new modern states. Even though fascist movements try to bring about revolutionary change, they emphasis the revival of a mythical ethnic, racial or national past. They revise conventional history to create a vision of an idealised past. The mythical histories claim that former greatness has been destroyed by such developments as the mixing of races, the rise of powerful buisness groups and a loss of a shared sense of the nation. A fascist movement always asserts that the nation faces a profound crisis. The fascists present the national crisis as resolvable only through a radical political transformation. They claim the nation has entered a dangerous age of mediocrity, weakness and decline. They are convinced that through their timely action they can save the nation from itself. Fascists promise that with their help the national crisis will end and a new age will begin that restores the people to a sense of belonging, purpose and greatness. They believe that the end result of a fascist revolution will be the emergence of a new man and woman. This
