Totalitarian regimes, in contrast to a dictatorship, show complete social control over their subjects and are usually lead by a leader that only cares about his country, none other. Fascism is a governmental system led by a poised dictators having complete power, suppressing opposition. Fascism is also a form of totalitarianism which emphasizes the subordination of the individual to advance the interests of the state. This essay will demonstrate how Mussolini, displays fascism, how Hitler and Himmler present forms of totalitarianism before and during the Second World War, and how a Jewish writer was able to convey what was seen in Treblinka.
Benito Mussolini, who was appointed prime minister at the head of a Fascist cabinet, cooperated with the Italian parliament, but aided by his police and soon became the dictator of Italy. “The Fascist State is wide awake and has a will of its own. For this reason, it can be described as “ethical” (Reilly 898). The Fascist state has a spiritual force and it sums up all the moral and intellectual life of man. Fascism, is totalitarian, in which no individuals or groups including political parties, cultural associations, unions, and social classes were allowed outside the state.
