I hypothesize that this student is falling asleep in class due to minuscule interaction and sitting in the back of the class. Allowing a week of intermission between tests, I would begin by using the Socratic method; Afterwards, moving the student to the front of the class; and finally, combining both methods and observing the magic at play. I'd expect both hypotheses to work accordingly, and the combination of them, to harmonize; allowing the student to stay awake and excel in the class. If after my attempts to keep the student awake, the student nevertheless falls asleep, it would consequently falsify my hypotheses. An untestable explanation would be that the student is being abducted by aliens in the middle of the night; therefore, not allowing
Sleeping during LTC Kan’s class, the mistake I made. Not only was I told by Mr. Macaulay, Staff Sergeant Avalos, Master Sergeant and SSG Campbell to wake up and take pictures but I failed to help Koo & Park stay awake. It is important to stay awake for many reasons. One being the fact that the person giving the class deserves your undivided attention. Despite the fact that it was LTC; regardless of rank they should be given the proper respect and courtesies as an instructor that’s giving a class. That is trying to help me professionally to do my job as a paralegal for an attorney in the future. It boils down to doing the right thing and treat others how you would like to be treated. If I was to be
I learned that this student is getting about six hours of sleep. There is a lot of controversy of amount of sleep students need. However, six hours of sleep is enough for the student, because she is awake throughout the class time. The student is on a good diet because she eats breakfast by arriving early to school. She is very determined to pass this class with a good grade. She always comes in for the tutoring session during lunch and after school. Therefore, I will be able to provide her with additional support and one to one tutoring during lunch or after
Directions: Read the article titled, “To Keep Teenagers Alert, Schools Let Them Sleep In” by Jan Hoffman. Answer the following questions AS THOROUGHLY AS POSSIBLE!
Unfortunately, many students face the struggle of staying awake in classes and being able to concentrate on what is being taught. The reason for this is many teens are not getting enough sleep at night. The amount of sleep an average individual should be getting each
If the student does fall asleep in class they might get in trouble or maybe get detention. This is currently a problem because the student should not get in trouble for being tired. If we try to get the student to go to bed earlier maybe it would help and not have them fall asleep in class. Maybe their test scores will
BBRIINNGGG! The alarm goes off and that feeling of grogginess and irritation start to hit. Getting ready for school feels impossible realizing there are many tests throughout the day just waiting to be failed from the insufficient amount of sleep the night before due to the hours spent studying. Sleep deprivation among teens is common now due to the start times of school. School times should be delayed to boost teenagers overall well-being, to improve academic scores, and to reduce depression and other risk behaviors.
Imagine flying across the country and having to instantly adjust to the new time zone every day for four years. The sleep deprivation and difficulty of that situation roughly equates to the sleep schedule of someone going through puberty. Our current school schedule is asking young, growing students to cut more than an hour off of the recommended sleep amount for their age. Whether the district is able to move the middle school start time closer to the high school start time or move the middle school start time to after the high school start time, depending on time needed for buses, I highly recommend changing it. Students would benefit if the Juneau School District changed the start time of middle school to a later time.
Have you ever slept in class? In recent studies,it states the that students sleep in their first period.Associated Press is a commitment to independent and comprehensive journalism.I agree about the time change for a later start time.Based on the article titled,“More zzz’s can lead to more A’s:Seattle Schools Move Start Time for Teens”,one believes that Beaumont High School should change the start time to begin class later due to sleep deprivation, which supplies more energy throughout the day for students.
them to not have enough time for sleep. Naturally, students would be able to focus better on the class material if they were awake
One of the many arising problems of America’s students is they are becoming sleep deprived. The busy daily schedules of children and teens are not allowing them to get enough sleep. “Less sleep is unhealthy especially with the new research that as teenagers move through teenage years, they need increasing amounts of sleep. Nine hours per night is the necessary amount to avoid behaviors associated with sleep deprivation” (Final Report Summary, 2001). Among other things, sleep deprivation is causing students to sleep during class instead of being awake and aware. When the students are sleeping in class, they are not retaining information being taught to them. Researchers have now proven that
What if we could increase test scores and decrease students falling asleep in class? It’s not that difficult, all we have to do is start schools later. Starting schools later would have many positive effects on the students. One of these positive effects include how many students don’t get enough sleep and having schools start later would allow students to get a full night's rest.
According to clinical psychologist Reut Gruber, Short or poor sleep is a significant risk factor for poor academic performance that is frequently ignored.” In other words if students came to school with enough sleep, then they are able to concentrate more. They listen to teachers lecture carefully rather than taking nap during class. They will have more tendency to participate in class discussions and activities. This led to better grades and decreases the failure
Students are in search of an advantage over the crowd and go to vast lengths to achieve it. Sleep deprived students are the effect of high expectations. Schools such as Silicon Valley brought sleep experts to promote shut-eye. Frank Bruni states that back when he was in the 1980s, there was too much sleep, although today’s students are taking more AP classes, multiple extracurricular, and apply to every Ivies. The author lists numerous books written on the topic of student learning. In college, campus students face anxiety along with depression, they cope with minor setbacks that seem big. They also deal with panic a major factor in “acing the exam, burnishing the transcript, and keeping up with high achieving peers.” Wanting to pull their children off the fast track parents worry about getting them stuck behind. The author believes students should be given wiggle room to find passions, develop interests, and bounce back from failure. Bruni states kids should “tumble gently into sleep, which is a gateway, not an impediment, to dreams.” Students are exhausted from their daily schedules and lose sleep due to it, Bruni proves his point by discussing personal experiences, statistics from other schools, and works he’s read.
“Last year the foundation reported that nearly 60% of 7- to 12-year-olds said they felt tired during the day, and 15% said they had nodded off at school”(Park). Every teacher wants the students to have good grades even if they try their best to teach students who are sleeping can’t learn from the teacher. Sometimes grades goes down and it’s not the teacher’s fault. People would be able to pay more attention in class. Some people at school are very moody and because of that some people won’t pay attention to class and their grades will drop. I sometimes get really tired and can barely pay attention to the class. Some people think they can just get enough sleep during the weekend but that is wrong. “Sleep researchers have learned that when you regularly fail to get enough sleep, it takes more than just a few hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings for your body to recover”(Park). Some people can’t focus in school because of the schedule. Most times people just get their sleep in class and not focus on the school work or
If student was out of his real sleep stage, time will be stopped by researchers; when he back to sleep stage, time recording start again. So for sleeping group, the actual time that they are lying is longer than 1 hour. When they fulfil their one hour sleep, researchers will wake them up and give them test. There are 25 question about their material, each question is about the list and it’s order. After finishing the test, researchers will grade them, and tell them their grades.
