Numerous of students from different states and portions of Georgia, and even around the world, has come to Georgia Southern University to intellectually grow and mature as an individual. I chose the FYE 1410: Global Health Nursing class to extended and further my knowledge about health around the globe. By the end of this course, I expect to learn various health related facts and achieve my learning goals as a student. My reason for choosing this particular course was to study and explore the different practices towards improving health and how health effects people worldwide. Also, my expectations from this class is to learn the core concepts of public health and the essential associations between nursing, global health, and the elements
To achieve positive and sustainable health outcomes it is important to understand the relationships between the subjects of person, environment, health, and nurse. People are unique and they prioritize their values differently. People are constantly seeking to define their truths and their purpose. These unique perspectives of the world guide the actions of everyone. There is a constant interaction between people and their environment. People and their environment both impact the wellbeing of each other. Health is multifaceted. Health is the culmination of physical, physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual status. These aspects of health are interconnected. Absolute health may never be achieved. However, nurses work to progress their
Nursing is fast pace and it is important to look back and reflect on what you have done in the past year. To learn and in order to develop more skills. Nursing school is the same. Self reflections are important in order to help better understand the strengths or weakness’s one may have. It helps you learn and see how the idea’s you learnt in theory come to play in clinical or in everyday situations. In this paper I will discuss health and health promotion and what it means to me as a student nurse. How it impacts everyday life. Next, I will discuss the knowledge I have gained from BNURS 288 and how it will help me become a better nurse in the future. Everything we learn today is to help become better individuals and better nurses. I will also discuss how health promotion works in a community setting through the bulletin boards we are doing. Lastly, I will reflect on how everything I have learnt thus far shapes me as an individual and the roles I play during clinical in BNURS 289. Reflecting on the past semester and this is class is a great way to review and remember everything we have done as well as it helps you refresh key idea’s you may have forgotten or were not to sure on. It helps you learn and grow.
Introduces and defines the topic, as well as describes its importance to professional nursing. Depth and detail are fair. (19–20 points)
Key Message #2: “Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression.” (Institute of Medicine, 2010, p. 163) As the IOM reports, changes in the health care system are requiring major changes in the nursing education requirements to meet the immediate needs of our patients. Nurses need to understand the importance of obtaining a higher level of education so that they can practice to their fullest
Throughout this program, each class has really broadened by skills and knowledge to prepare me for practice as a family nurse practitioner delivering excellent evidence-based medicine. The first class where we learned about the role of the advance practice nurse really set the tone for what to expect as a provider and what each role entails. Moving on to the theory class, it was discovered how much nursing theory really plays a part in caring for patients. My knowledge was increased on the different theories and how one can relate them to patient situations by participating in discussion questions and preparing papers. Also, it was known that theory is what guides research to better patient care. Pathophysiology was really the building block for the makeup of the human body. One has to be proficient in knowing how different systems in the body function and how they can be affected by other processes. By reading the provided textbooks, writing papers, and participating in discussion with other classmates, my knowledge of pathophysiology was taken to a new level. The 2 advanced nursing classes really reinforced common problems that can affect different parts of the human body and how care should be managed for these conditions. There was an abundance of learning during these 2 classes that really helped prepare us for clinical rotations and
Three goals that I have accomplish while being in ENGWR50. Being able to analyze assignments, and being able to address them. I have learned these lessons with the reading "Fixed Vs Growth Mindsets" and the FWA1 and FWA2. The workshops has also help me to understand how to revise an essay as well as understanding how to distinguish between facts in opinions. reading the articles " True Grit" and, " 100% Is Over Rated", writting the summaries on these articles has taught me how to analyze reading while being able to create strategies for addressing them. this class has help me to become a better writer. it has prepared me for ENGWR101 now I know what is expected of me when writing a college paper. This course will follow me to my next class
In the wake of assessing the course in my degree plan, I realized that there are a variety of courses that will bolster me towards my degree goal. After assessing the course, 5 specifically got my attention and now I am more eager to learn more about these topics. I feel the courses below will contribute significantly in my Career. In total there are 180 credit needs for my degree in health science.
In the beginning, I felt as this English course was just another typical course with the purpose of allowing students to write more essays without the use of creativity and acuity. However, as I ventured deep into the course, I found my original opinion to be biased. Throughout my spiritual journey in ENGL 1304, I not only learned many concepts and new ideas along the way, but I was also able to connect with all my readings. From researching my online sources to constructing a coherent argument, I grasp the process of communicating my voice for each assignment through careful observation and visualization. As a result, I was able to write my essays in a more personal manner. It also led me to stray away from the concept of “just writing anything
According to Johns Hopkins School of Nursing magazine (2010), “a global nurse knows that what happens in one part of the world affects the others.” These international leaders in global health have a hands-on agenda to further expand needs
The nurse, the client, the environment, teaching/learning, and nursing education are the main points in VU’s Nursing Philosophy. VU’s Nursing Philosophy has lead me to view nurses as caring, culturally sensitive, and trustworthy individuals that stand as advocates for their patients and their community. Also, nurses collaborate with other health care professionals and use problem solving skills to promote physical, spiritual, and psychosocial, health and wellness (2014). Vincennes University’s Nursing Philosophy as taught me that a client can be any person, family, community, or population, who should all be cared for as a holistic being, worthy of dignity and respect. Although the client’s needs vary largely throughout their lifespan VU’s Nursing Philosophy supports their right to determine and actively participate in reaching their own health goals (2014). Vincennes University’s Nursing Philosophy defines health as any point of being between death and an optimal level of wellness (2014). This affects me as a nursing students because promotion, restoration, and maintaining the optimal level of wellness is the goal of nursing, this results from positive adaption between the client and the environment (Vincennes University, 2014). The environment can be defined as any external or internal aspect of the client, this is ever-changing as the world around us changes (Vincennes University, 2014).
Nursing is a valued profession that serves to protect, promote, and optimized the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, communities, and populations through care, regardless of age, race, sex, diagnosis, financial stability, and abilities or disabilities. As time progressed, nursing has been regarded as a human science, in which it not only requires one to be knowledgeable and skilful in the field of health care, but they must also possess a strong desire and passion to care and help patients who are in their most vulnerable states. The primary goal of nursing is empowerment of patient through advocacy, health promotion and education, along with direct care.
Nursing is one of the most popular professions in healthcare. To become a professional nurse, one must acquire certain level of education, whether it is at associate or baccalaureate degree level. Once becoming a nurse a number of professional standards must be maintained to stay abreast with the profession. In that respect, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in its 2010 report had suggested many recommendations focusing on the future of nursing. The aim of the report is to put forth recommendations that allow nurses to “(1) ensure that nurses can practice to the full extent of their education and training (2) improve nursing education, (3) provide opportunities for nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full
Nursing is a profession that relates with individuals and their environment. As an individual, I have realized that nursing is a desire to care, comfort, and provide a suitable environment for individual’s wellness. Therefore, my personal philosophy is, Altruism, Human Dignity & Justice that are important values that led me to the profession. Being inspired by my mother, I am obligated to have these virtues so that I may be a benevolent nurse, and to better serve mankind by using the morals and wisdom that I have learned. As a professional nurse, helping others become stronger and healthier gives me great satisfaction and joy.
The purpose of this paper is to delve into the philosophy of nursing. It will take a look at what is involved with nursing and how to better provide care for patients. This paper will go through different aspects of nursing and how certain factors are important. The factors of the nursing paradigm are: nursing, health, environment, person, and culture; and they will all be discussed and explained. There are many people who have made a difference in nursing and healthcare. Florence Nightingale was not only the first nurse, but she also strived for better conditions for patients. She changed the sanitation requirements that would transform nursing. She was the establisher of a training school specifically for nurses. Alike Nightingale, Madeleine Leininger decided that there were other ways to help patients. Leininger discovered that a person’s beliefs, and all around culture can affect the way they feel, and their health. She decided that nurses should get to know their patients cultural preferences to make them feel more comfortable. As a nursing student I believe both aspect of these philosophies are extremely important to Nursing.
I’ve learned a lot of useful tips from this semester in ENG 201. English has never been my strong suit nor has it been my favorite class. However this college course has changed my point of view of the subject. Prior coming into college I viewed English as a useless class because I’ve already knew the basics: how to talk, read and write essays. Today I view English as an important class. It helped me in other courses that involved writing, such as World Civilization and Communications, because it allowed me to practice my skills. In my world civilization exams I had to write essays. This course helped me write an impactful essay. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost all of my exam scores were in the 90s, usually I do poorly in the
