Introduction
The chief of police in my precinct has given me a very important task. He wants to start a task force in the Los Angeles Area to determine the highest crime areas in the city. He has ask me to do this job because of my expertise in this area of the job. So I will begin by explaining to the task force how this research will work and why it is necessary. (Babbie, 2008) Descriptive research, this will not answer questions like how, when, why it has happened. It describes the characteristics of a citizens or circumstance being studied. Instead it tells us the “what” question what are the traits of the citizens or situation being studied? Although this research is highly accurate, it does not gather the causes behind a situation. So if we did a study on say “How many gangs are in Los Angeles?” This will give us an answer of how many of something, like a situation that is being studied. (Babbie, 2008) …show more content…

Investigating a problem which will provide insights to the researcher. The research is meant to provide details where a small amount of information exists. It may use many methods such as trial studies, interviews, group discussions or other methods for the purpose of gaining information. Someone may want to take on some exploratory research to try to come up with a new innovative product to market. And exploratory research would be great way to decide if it is a good thing or not, in this part of town. (Tajalli, 2006)
Evaluative research is when you are attempting to evaluate the effectiveness of something. These researches are used in health departments, police stations etc. To study and evaluate situations inside the system.
