Students should be allowed to eat snacks during the class period. This will give them brain food , it would be healthier, and students wouldn’t have hunger during class. I think that if they were allowed they would be happier.
My first support is that a snack like a granola bar will be brain food to students. First, because of brain food they will be smarter every day. They will not fall asleep during class. Finally, they will do better on tests of every subject in school.
My second support is that they will be healthier every day if they do this. They will not be able to eat junk food, only brain food. If they missed breakfast they will still be able to eat during class. Finally, they will not over eat at home so they will not be obese.
I see poor nutrition and low birth weight affecting students in my classroom more and more. There are many programs within districts to try to help offset the problem of poor nutrition. Our school has voted to implement breakfast in the classroom this fall. This program will allow every student in my class to have access to free breakfast every day. I used to keep extra food on hand in my classroom for students who would inevitably complain about not having had breakfast. A study on the breakfast program found that “There is significant evidence of positive academic effects due to breakfast consumption” (Benefits, 2010). This program is one way that we can help our students to have the nourishment they need to be able to learn and
School lunches should be improved so students can get the necessary vitamins to finish the day, to stay on task, and to fuel their minds to finish things on time.
If the students don’t eat the school food then they won’t have the energy they need to get them to pay attention in class and
If student athletes would consume just 100 to 200 extra calories throughout the day the there would be no need discuss the problems created by school lunches. However, this solution can create multiple problems. The student would be required to pay more money because they would be the one buying and preparing the food. Another problem created by this solution is that lunch is at an ideal time to consume food because most student athletes will be playing their sport in only about 3 hours after
Since 2009 Schools have been improving there healthy choices of food like fresh fruits and salad bars, but those foods take longer to eat (Hellmich). Turning school lunches into an actual sit down meal rather than a feeding frenzy is a good way of improving health (Parker-Pope). Students usually have less than 20 minutes to eat lunch which makes it less likely for them to choose the healthy choice (Elsevier). Kids often like to eat there favorite foods first, not giving them enough time to eat the healthy food (Hellmich). An increase in school lunches could encourage students to eat the healthier choice(5 Elsevier). School nutritionist suggest that students need to have atlas 20 minutes to eat (Hellmich). Research shows that when people consume meals faster they take in more calories because they get hungry sooner (Chen). The shorter lunch periods are starting to lead to more and more obese and overweight kids ( Hellmich). Doctors are saying there are more and more kids getting diabetes and other illnesses due to the lunches and something needs to be done about it
Therefore, modifying the Healthy Hungry-Free Kids Act of 2010 is a great start to meeting the needs of a more diverse student body. In deciding to keep the program the same, active and athletic students leave school undernourished everyday. Consequently, students not receiving their nutritional needs could also quench their hunger with unhealthy alternatives. For example, they could choose to visit a gas station before a sport practice to get through the practice. A healthy lunch program is ineffective if, in effect, it causes students to consume more unhealthy alternatives. Overall, this either causes undernourished students or students indulging in unhealthy alternatives. Neither of these is a good outcome for the students health, it would more effective to offer a second serving of healthier food during
Schools do their best to meet the needs of students by providing textbooks, well-qualified teachers, and other appropriate resources. However, students rarely get a chance to share what they really think their schools need most. My school should accommodate students' needs by adding healthier lunches because it will improve academic performance, promote good nutrition, and prevent obesity.
Lunch is one of the most anticipated thirty minutes of most students day. They get to converse with their friends and finish neglected homework, but what the students look forward to is the food they get to eat. In special classes(Health, Nutrition) we learn about healthy eating and dieting; unless you pack your own lunch, we must suffer and endure the unhealthy and sometimes disgusting school lunches. Schools should improve the nutritional value in our foods for many reasons; mainly for the fact that childhood obesity is a rising problem in the U.S.
High School Students wait all day for lunch, not just to socialize but to actually eat. I know changing to a healthier lunch menu os a good idea because not only would make high school students happier but it would also make their parents happy, make students healthier, and get them through the rest of the school day energized. Unhealthy lunches can make students lazy throughout the rest of the school day, gain weight, and make kids sick. if students are coming to lunch and not putting the right type of foods in their body that's not good because that can translate to body composure in class and also make students lazy and not want to do anything because of all the grease, fat, etc that their lunch meal is giving off. say a student has PE
Childhood obesity is a major cause for concern within the United States. This is mainly due to children not getting the require nutrition that they need. Although study show that there is a decrease in obesity in children, it still remains at an all-time high. Children are failing to eat as healthy as they should, and it has become an even bigger problem now that they aren’t getting the require amount of food in their diets. The USDA made a decision a couple of years ago to reduce the amount of food given to children while they are at school. This hurts them tremendously, because the majority of the food they eat comes from being at school all day. The other half lies on the parents when they go home and eat dinner. It is very important for children to eat healthy and eat the required amount of food according to various dietary guidelines. First Lady Michelle Obama has started a new campaign to help kids and parents combat obesity in children. One thing that the campaign has placed emphases on is getting healthier food within school. Although they are getting healthier foods in school they are beginning to change the proportion they are giving students. Through the First Lady’s Let’s Move campaign students should be giving healthier foods and also be allowed to have the correct proportion to help them maintain a healthy diet.
If the students get a nutritious meal then the students could function right and have a better state of mind throughout the whole day. Charles
Grades K-5 are served a maximum of 650 calories, grades 6-8 700 calories, and grades 9-12 receive a maximum of 850 calories (“Federal Nutrition Standards for School Meals”). This leaves many students hungry. While it is hard to accommodate each child individually, your average active child that is involved in sports and other extra-curricular activities, is going to require more calories to maintain their weight than an overweight or obese child who needs to lose weight. Left hungry and unfulfilled, those student will move on to vending machines and a la carte to satisfy their hunger. Limiting the amount of calories served doesn’t necessarily solve the issue. Eating more calories than necessary of a healthy food choice, is a much better alternative than eating the right amount of calories but choosing a poor food
Obesity can often be the consequence of living in a household that instill unhealthy eating habits. Schools can be a positive influence on teens early in life so that obese teens can lead into their adult lives with healthier habits. With these healthier habits, they may likely have more energy to become positive influences in others lives to be healthy and be able to do more. If schools can make such an impact on students’ lives, they should try, even if they needed to sacrifice extra money or instructional time. In 2007, there was a study that only one fifth of high school students had eaten fruits and vegetables at least five times a day in a week (Wexler, 2010). While it is unreasonable to force someone to eat these foods, if they are regularly offered as part of school lunches, students may eat them if they have finished the rest of their lunch and are hungry. Schools should be encouraged to even add fruits and vegetables to vending machines for healthier options.
First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don’t often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), “burgers” (meat slapped on two
Junk food, junk food, junk food is around all corners of schools. Chocolate, cookies, soda, potato chips, and Sour Strings may sound delectable to some people, but are they nutritious? Some people wonder if there should be a change. Encouraging exceptional nutrition in schools is essential by reasons of students will consume foods that are better for them, schools will pay less for meals, and fewer students would go hungry.
