When you are trying to honor an event or person, what should you consider? There are many things to consider, yet what are the most important things? Well, you should consider the location of the monument, the time it takes to create and the money used and gained from the monument. When you are creating a monument, you should consider location. many people create meaningless buildings and sculptures just to please the eye which is why they need to people need to identify reasons a memorial would benefit them.

The responsibility of designing and building a monument is no small feat. After all, the end product is meant to memorialize important, and sometimes tragic events and/or people that have significantly contributed something to society. How does one begin to plan a memorial in the first place? Certainly, it can not be rushed, and can be a very grueling process. Several things need to be considered, including determining the proper location of a monument that suits the people who see it. One must also consider the intended audience and what the monument represents. Of course the simplicity or complexity of the monument structure must also be determined. Along with that, monument builders need to consider the positive and/or negative affects on people viewing the monument. In short, there are three main things that need to be considered when debating how, or even if, to make a monument.

As Americans, we are always looking for ways to memorialize things. Whether it be a statue of the man your town was named after, or a row of columns of civilians that died in The Boston Marathon. There has always been an importance in memorializing in the US, but if you don't do it correctly, you may upset many people. Here are some simple steps to memorializing correctly.

I think that is something to keep in mind at all times when building monuments. We build monuments to honor, to honor those who have done great and wonderful things that helped our country. It’s not saying that don’t recognize the bd that they did in their life, but they had redeemable qualities or actions that redeemed them in the eyes of the public.

My monument is very complex, it will look like john Adams with a extended arm holding a flag and in the other hand lies a sort of paper that says “life, liberty, and happiness.” During John Adam`s life, the first thing i knew prior about him was how he thought the high taxes and the unfair treatment was undeniably wrong. He went to do something about it and decided to fight for our life, liberty, and property. Therefore, knowing this, i decided to incorporate that concept into my monument.

Whether it be to remember a person’s achievement or to provide a sense of connection in a community, monuments link together the present and the past with the motive of respect. Memorials are far more relevant than a seemingly trivial granite monument that one could notice in a park (Source B); they embellish meaning, symbol, emotion, and memories into a collective emblem. In memorializing an event and creating a monument, it is essential for the group or agency to not only consider the basic elements such as the historical significance or size, location, and materials but also to acknowledge the emotional linkage the event or monument may induce through attachment

The size of a monument or museum is important to think about because you must ensure that the person or event you are memorializing receives the recognition it deserves. After it was decided that there needs to be a Holocaust museum on the Washington Mall, protesters stated that the proposed design was too large (Source E). “The purpose of the museum was to remember the Holocaust, not overpower the mall or its visitors” (Source E). By downsizing the design plan, curators were able to create a place of regard without overpowering the other memorials and museums. The materials used to construct a monument also play a role in ensuring a person or event receive the respect they/ it deserves. When designing the Vietnam Veterans memorial in Washington, D.C, Maya Lin decided to use “Black granite in order to make the surface reflective and peaceful” (Source G). Lin’s choice of black granite helped to create a somber feeling while still showing respect and remembrance to those who fought in the war. The size and material of a monument can have a huge impact on those paying their respects to a person or event and the way they recieve its
