What are the psychological implications of children using technology between the ages of 1-5? Summary of the research question and outcome My research project was inspired by my love of children and the many times I have observed children using technology. From this experience I noticed many young children are extremely familiar with technology and the use of technology can have both positive and negative effects on them. As I have researched into this topic, I have learnt there are many beneficial and harmful implications of technological use for children. A finding I have come across on multiple occasions is children should not be using or be in contact with any technology whilst they are under the age of 2. A positive implication includes using technology for educational reasons as opposed to entertainment purposes. Using technology for entertainment or for long periods of time can negatively affect the child psychologically. A key point from my research has lead me to understand technology can have a huge impact on a child’s mental, physical and emotional health. Mostly undertaken by parents with children between 1-5 and teachers who work with children between the ages of 1-5. My survey consisted of 24 questions and each question got a wide range of results. My survey results gave me insightful information and opinions on what is believed could be implications of technology and whether people are aware of what technology can do to young children. The results helped me with understanding some on the beneficial and harmful implications and the ways technology is changing the way children think and focus. By finding out by parents and child care workers, how technology can affect their sleep patterns, behaviour and emotions.
