In the course the class went over the characteristics of successful students and struggling students. The first thing of a successful student that influenced me, was accepting personal responsibility. A person has to see themselves as the cause their outcomes and experiences. If someone sees themselves as a victim, success most likely will never come to them. Employing interdependence I learned is another important characteristic of a successful student. In college a person has to build mutually supportive relationships to help them achieve their goals. People who refuse assistance from others who could help most likely will have a difficult time achieving success. The most important thing I learned of a successful student was self-management. A person has to plan and manage their time wisely
The whole educational and career planning process has been quite the challenge. One factor that I was completely sure of though, was that I wanted to be doing something important. Something that I personally felt like I would be remembered while also giving back to the community in which I live. With that in mind however, it not only takes one’s talents that are depended on but the experience needed when selecting a career path. Out of the many careers that one can select, I had to pick an admirable career where I would not only make a decent living for myself and my children, but also undertaking something that I would enjoy doing.

As a student in college I am here to find my future career and build who I am as a person. I have a lot of goals in life and I expect a lot out of myself. I started reading the New York Times article, how to Live Wisely. It surprisingly related a lot to my own life. This article made me consider if I am actually doing what I love. As I answered what my goals are, I kept in the back of my head what I want my future to in store.
From my personal experience as a student, researchers misunderstand what makes a student successful. If the student wants to be successful they will be no matter the struggle, and if they don't, they won't. It's not the teachers or the parents that make a student successful, it's the student. Kewauna showed grit and self-control by working hard all the time. She thought “every paper was a challenge, and at the end of the semester , she stayed up practically all night, three nights in a row, studying for finals”. However, some students think that success is a one time thing, so they work hard to succeed once then they don't do it again. I know this because I have done that many times before. I have worked hard in one class and slacked off in
I have various specific talents and abilities that will help make me a successful college student, but here are a few of the most essential qualities. Growing up with multiple siblings I have learned to complete work while having distractions around me. This will help in college because you never know what sort of distractions will come your way when you will need to crack down and focus. Throughout high school teachers have slowly changed the way homework is dealt with and how class time is spent from a high school level to a college level. My educators have familiarized me with how a college course might work as far as class time and homework would go. Testing in high school has become more intense as I've moved from freshman to senior year.
Enrolling for college was a huge step for me personally. I will be writing about my goals that I want to achieve, and the way I will be achieving them. By writing out my plan for college success, I will be able to look at it periodically and refresh what my goals and motivation are for graduating at Columbia Southern University.
