Rationale Without direct instruction, students cannot learn on their own. They need to be taught how to do certain things to be able to be productive in life. They need to learn how to follow direction to be able to get to the correct answer with understanding. Modeling is important for to student to hear and see the steps the teacher took to get to the answers. “When you Model, you show someone how to do something. In real life, people use modeling constantly to teach skills” (Cunningham, p. 158). Having students reading articles out of the school newspaper make learning interesting. 7. Learning Activities: Guided Practice/ Collaborative Practice (Check for understanding and provide feedback and re-teaching) Once the students have chosen an article, read and answer the WHO, WHAT, HOW, WHEN, and WHY questions. In their group, the students will then make a presentation on their articles the students have worked
The pretest will show weakness as well as strengths throughout the class. I less formal test can be used by having the students draw lines to connect the person with the correct name, Also, we want students at the end of the semester to present who they are police officer, firefighter, soldier, mail carrier, baker, farmer, doctor, teacher. By providing standardized test for the students we can get a general idea of the students understanding of several concepts. The concepts covered are: English, math, social students, science, approaches to learning, personal and social development, and motor skills. Furthermore we want to make sure we focus on the six objectives of bloom's taxonomy which are: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing evaluating and creating
The Teacher’s pyramid of Influence is a pyramid of three sections, the top section is overt attempts to teach, the middle section is interacting with students and the foundation of the pyramid is the modeling. Just about everything in life is build from a foundation, a foundation is the beginning of something that is build upon to make something bigger and better. The foundation of a teacher, teaching their students is modeling. Modeling means to give an example, not just say something, but do something. Modeling can be a positive thing or a negative thing. When a teacher talks about the importance 's of a particular action like looking both ways before crossing the street, then model this action. Each time the teacher crosses the street they look both ways, this is modeling. The students are more likely to mimic the teachers action, follow their example rather than just listen to what the teacher said and follow their directions. Modeling is more powerful learning tool than verbally telling someone what to do. From the moment we are born, we learn best by mimicking what others are doing, the people we see, our mom and dads are our models, what they do we will do or at least try to do. A teacher who lives by the modo “do as I say not what I do” is not an effective teacher. Modeling is the foundation of any good teacher.
Students listen to the teacher and look at the pictures on the board. They try to guess the vocabulary items. They examine how they will use these words in sentences.
These students go into a traditional classroom setting to learn and complete assignments. Learning in the classroom setting allows the student to have a teacher that can provide help that is beneficial to a student. These students have an available instructor they can ask for help if needed. Teachers and administrators provide encouragement and motivation to these students in the traditional classroom and are available for assistance outside the classroom.
I think it is important to know your students and know where their interests lie in order to build a relationship with each individual student. I think students need to know that you care and you are there for them. Communication is so important to run an effecient classroom. It is important to give students lots of opportunities to answer questions, discuss with their peers, and share stories and opinions.
There are many different groups of kids in school in all different grades. Being in categories at
The teacher is using direct lecture to model to the students how to problem solve using specific methods and steps. Later on, the teacher has a set of problems that will reinforce those methods and steps.
Some students may learn much faster than others, while other students may take a bit longer to fully understand the material. Sometimes it just takes an ah ha moment for them to get it. Whatever we can do as educators to ensure the effectiveness of the lesson should be done. After all, the goal of an educator is for all of the students to learn the material and be able to use it in a real world situation.
There is a lot of types of students in a single class. Dealing with them is the most challenging aspect of being a teacher. Putting students into categories is useful for the professor to know how they are and treat them differently. One the most common type of student is the mischievous. This is one who tends to cause problems or disruptions in classroom making jokes all the time. Another type is the shy. This student is very quiet and practically goes unnoticed for the rest of the class. Usually he or she pais attention to the class and has very good grades , but probably almost none one realizes it. Another is the boss. This is one who wants to answer all questions and is so eager to show he knows everything that could get very upset when
Teaching in a school environment is important to students as it provides the opportunity to learn social skills. When we attend schools, we sit in a classroom among others and are taught subjects of various matters. We interact with the teacher and our fellow students. This interaction is important as we learn vital social skills. We learn respect and patience, among other things. In kindergarten, we learn not to speak out of turn and not to speak over someone else. If there were no interactions with other human beings, we would lose our ability to communicate and socialize, and this could lead to the disappearance of society as we know
I used examples and classroom activities that reflect their world resulting in an engaged learner. I created a strong rapport with students, in this way they felt more comfortable expressing their feelings and opinions in the classroom. I always created a semi- relaxed atmosphere, encouraged smiling and incorporated humor. Getting away from the podium and the front of class and interacting with the learners created more equality in the class. I would get to school early to chat and bond with the students.
There are various instructional approaches but one that is widely employed by many teachers is the direct instruction approach. This is the classic teaching style that many people remember during K-12 grade school. The teacher would stand in front of the class lecturing while writing on the black board. That is why direct instruction is also known as “Chalk and Talk” (Evans, 2006). Direct instruction is not out of date and is still appropriate in many situations today. The following will discuss direct instruction and a few scenarios in which this teaching approach is appropriate.
I noticed the class was engaged and appeared eager to understand by asking questions. When the students was asking questions, and talking about the given topic, it is because they were interested
It is equally important to relate the students’ learning to a real world context that is meaningful, in order for students to really take in the key concepts that are being taught.
Schools that offer smaller class size have more student-teacher interaction opposed to schools with larger class size. Having more interaction with the teacher gives students the opportunity to ask more questions and reassure more help, students are more likely to participate in the lectures creating a bond with the teacher and peers (Harfitt & Tsui, 2005). Students need to have a relationship with their teachers to create a comfortable environment, where they are not afraid to ask questions with their peers in the classroom. Having student-teacher humor shows students confident, and this is another type of interaction, this helps to engage students in the classroom lessons (Harfitt & Tsui, 2005). Keeping students engage in classroom lessons improves students’ attention and it is a sign of understanding. When students are engaged in a lesson the students discipline improves,
