Expectations and Goals As a new freshman, the next four years of my life can seem extremely daunting, with huge possibilities as to the kind of person that I want to be when I graduate. College is known as a transformation period in the life of a young adult, and I hope to take full advantage of this time. By setting expectations and goals for myself, hopefully I can be successful as I seek out the person that God wants me to be. I have set up, and outlined, academic, spiritual, and personal goals to achieve my first semester here at college. For this semester, I have set a high expectation for myself academically. Specifically, I would like to be able to maintain all A’s, and therefore a 4.0 GPA. If I am able to do this, and possibly continue it on through all eight semesters of my college career, I will be a more competitive applicant for PA school, or med school, or whatever post undergraduate schooling that my future entails. Not only would achieving this goal be beneficial to my future career, I hope to honor Christ by working hard in everything that I do, and this is one way that I can do that. This goal is measurable because I can regularly check my grades to make sure that I am staying on track with each class to attain this goal. I believe that getting all A’s is also achievable is I remained focused and driven, delegating ahead of time the study time that I will need to be successful in each of my classes. For each hour that I spend in a class, I will plan on spending at least three hours outside of class with the covered material to be successful. This can be realistic if I am careful to make sure that I don’t commit myself too heavily to extracurricular activities. While I will be checking my grades weekly, half-way through the semester I will evaluate my study strategies, and whether they were successful or need to be changed to stay on target. Ultimately, I would like to see myself meet this goal at the end of the semester and carry the habits that I have learned to the rest of my college career. Spiritually, I know that this time is quintessential in the establishing of my faith and walk with Christ. My goal is to set habits and practices for myself that will help me grow spiritually.
Transitioning from high school to college is a very important stage in a young adults life. It is an exciting, nerve racking, and sometimes frightening experience leaving home for the first time and essentially living on your own. Not having your immediate family around you for months at a time definitely affects students differently. Some students embrace the opportunity and strive while others do not make it past the first semester. However, research shows there are factors that increase the likelihood of becoming the student that strives rather than the student that does poorly. Factors
Keeping track of my academic goals this school year is very important to me. These goals consist of obtaining a 4.0 both semesters. To achieve this, I plan to pay attention in class and make sure to study for tests and quizzes. Also improving upon my procrastination so I am not finishing a project I was assigned two weeks ago the night before. I aim to accomplish this by working to have 50% of a project done, 50% through the given amount of time to finish the
The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if one finishes all of college.
As much as we dread waking up early, sitting through 6 classes a day, and completing numerous assignments it's what's going to get us to the day we receive the diploma that will finally say we are moving on to adult hood. They say these four years are suppose to be the time of our lives, and they will go by in a blink of an eye. It's true. Here I am, my second semester of my junior year writing about who I am, thinking about my future and how I would like for people to see me. I want the world to see me as a follower of Christ.
College is a life changing adventure, and I want it to be the best experience I can possibly receive. Attending Medgar Evers College, I have set high hopes and expectations. I hope to interact with people of diverse ethnicity. I want to learn more about different cultures and the individualization of people. And so far getting to know people on campus has been one of my greatest experiences. I have met so many wonderfully different people here. I hope to develop more independence. To be more responsible for keeping up with my schoolwork, preparing for tests, and making most out of my classes, even when they start early. Being successful in college is about more than handing your work in on time and passing classes. It’s about staying motivated. I know for a fact there will be a lot of demanding of my time. I know that procrastinating is not the best way of approaching situations. It is my responsibility to try to regularly motivate myself, even if it’s pulling
Gary Colombo, Robert Cullen, and Bonnie Lisle in their book “Rereading America” feel that commencing college is a very disturbing experience. So many things we have to deal while starting college, but the major challenges are expanded difficulty levels and higher expectation which we are not familiar over the years of high school. In order to solve this issue, we have to remodel ourselves by taking up the challenge and rethink about our strength and flaws. To succeed in college we need to be mentally strong and dedicated towards our goal.
As I start my journey of being a college student again, I will also learn and not to do the same mistakes I did in undergraduate years. I am eager to see the difference all of this will make, and with a positive mind set know that my time will all work out in the
We would expect the student to follow the rules established by CCI Greenheart, to comply with school rules and be law abiding. We would expect the student to follow house rules that would be typical of those in place for any teenage youth such as curfews, communicating plans with friends, homework expectations and so on. We would expect the student to keep his or her bedroom orderly and maybe help out from time to time with tasks around the house typical of those expectations of most teenage youth.
Starting college as a Freshman is exciting; it is also unnerving. The comfort of everything I know is going to disappear and it will be time to grow up and face reality. However, reality isn’t doomed to be negative if I prepare for my future and
As you continue to go through each grade, it becomes harder to distinguish yourself from those around you as you are ushered through the cookie cutter of life in order to excel in the world hoping to be prepared for experiences that you may face.Through college, one is presented with the opportunity to reinvent themselves and really discover who they are. I hope to take advantage of this newfound freedom in order to develop who I am as a person as I prepare my self for the obstacles that I will soon face. I believe this step in life will help me break out of my metaphorical cocoon to become more comfortable with who I started out as and who I will become.
While in college, I will accomplish being focused, freely self-expressive, assertive, optimistic, and more outgoing. As a freshman, I am excited to venture out into this world of college, although I was nervous at first. I had never been on my own before and I grew accustomed to being
Many students are so overjoyed to fly the coop and go off to college that they have a hard time remembering that all education, not only college can be very challenging therefore “let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”(Galatians 6:9) . The shock of it all can cause very negative reactions on people of all ages from partying all the way to simply procrastinating. Excitement is an amazing feeling but keeping it at bay can be a serious challenge.
My first goal is to earn a 4.0 GPA this fall semester. This is an enabling goal because I will need I need to have above a 3.8 to get into the nursing program at UNC, therefore getting perfect grades this semester will set me up for success in the future semesters. To accomplish this goal, I will have to study for at least two hours a day, Monday through Friday. I will also need to go to at least three hours of tutoring each week. I live in a pre-nursing living community, therefore my RA has tutoring hours and the school provides two hours for each class of tutoring a week. I am a disorganized person and I rarely use a planner, and to get a 4.0 I will need to be very organized. To address this potential obstacle, I will sit down every Sunday and
My first semester as a college freshman is finally coming to an end. This semester has been the start to a new chapter in my life and I am glad to have finally finished my first semester on a high note. Coming into college I never knew what things would be like and how would I adjust. All I knew is that I wanted to succeed and eventually graduate college. The courses I have taken this semester have had big impact on my learning and my future. Assignments that taught skills and lessons to be used in the future. I have learned skills such as being able to collaborate in groups because of projects in ASU 150.
And it’s an experience that I offer to current college freshmen to learn from. But, even more valuable than my lessons learned, is your own experience. I want to lock down and be completely focused on school and get the grades I want. College is way more enjoyable when you are getting good grades. At one point during my first semester my grades weren’t too good, and I wasn’t enjoying college. I was always stressed out and worrying constantly. Every time I went to sleep I would worry, and it really affected me. Now, I started the semester off strong and I’m really enjoying college and I have no worries in the back of my mind Everyone has a different adjustment to college. Maybe you’re the one who can and will hit the ground running. Or maybe you’re like me, and you just need to learn to be patient. So, even if you feel like you’re not getting what you want out of college, just realize that it is an experience for you to learn and grow from. Because this is just the
