More growth is expected, fueled by an aging Baby Boomer generation in search of eternal youth and the reality that regular exercise can prevent or control diseases that are driving health care costs relentlessly upward. When I first moved to Denver, Colorado, I went on a small search to find a fitness club that would meet all of my needs. After an online search, I discovered a Lifetime Fitness that was five miles from my apartment. Growing up in an active family and being in the Marines Corps with constant moving, I have experienced a multitude of gyms: with some being good and some being bad. Luckily for me, I have been a member of Lifetime Fitness before, and I knew they set the bar high for fitness clubs that very few others met. New evidence today suggest that the more hours that you sit, the greater likelihood of dying an earlier death regardless of how much you exercise, or how lean you are ( Masters, 2010). The fact is that millions of Americans think they are being healthy by working out at the gym on a daily basis. These people do not realize that the exercise they are doing in the gym is not able to counteract the effects of the “desk job.” These same people think they are living an active life by working out on almost a daily basis. The truth is that this is considered to be living an inactive lifestyle. The red flag is now raised. These same people that work out at the gym daily are now grouped into the dreaded sedentary lifestyle. Being a member of this group increases your chances of diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease. On top of all this, it increases the chances of obesity. Obesity notably increases when a person is living a sedentary lifestyle.
I observed two different unique professions relating to the exercise science field over the course of the Fall 2015 semester as required by the Introduction to Exercise Science course offered here at SIUE. I picked professions that interested me, and based it on if I could see myself going into it after graduation from this program.
The health club industry has continued to see an increase in the amount of health clubs/fitness centers. Since 1992, the United States has seen the number of health clubs increased by almost 40 percent, from 12,635 to 17,531 facilities. It has also seen an increase in membership by almost 60 percent, from 20.8 million to 32.8 million. What this all means for Fun 4 Life Fitness Center, LLC is that the market is ever growing which translates to more competition. Most fitness centers offer a variety of services to address the needs and convenience of the customers. Some of these services includes personal trainers, facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, and programs that cater to mostly every demographic.
The dullness of attending the gym may consume the mind at times. This factor can fade through actively leading a better life; therefore, the callousness will fade and motivation follows in abundance. Gyms facilitate a great environment for building the social aspects of one's life. Joining a gym membership program will open doors to healthy activities. My purpose for applying to the Bachelor of Science in Education, Exercise Science program is that I wholeheartedly believe that a degree in exercise science would provide me with the knowledge and educational experiences necessary to be successful in my future career. Fortunately, I don’t feel this program is only beneficial for my future success, but thanks to being in classes such as KNHES 2360, I have found that studying this area of science is a passion of mine. As far as I can recall, I have always been interested in the science behind exercise and movement. As a child, I admired athletes. The more workouts that should be added could be training on how to use weights. Also add variety in the classes they teach. Add yoga, aerobics, and maybe a nutritional or dieting class. The reason being is that they will draw more people who are not currently interested in boxing to your company. now the diet class would be an interesting add people go to the gym to get in shape and lose weight manly so if you offer to teach people how you can push your classes and a membership to come workout whenever. The 24 hour gym will increases your operating cost but also will make working out on your schedule easier. The charge for additions to the gym should be based on your current operating cost and predicted operating cost. Also, they should be yearly memberships with discounts for families or monthly for individuals. Since most American work thirty-three hours per week, making time for fitness can become a challenge. The obvious solution is to offer gyms right at work. That way, employees will be able to workout and get their work done all at the same time. Overall, on-site fitness is necessary for businesses and their employees.
