On the other hand, there parents that are mean to their kids, make them do all the house work and provide bad living conditions for their children. The Walls parents would fall on the bad of the parent scale for many reasons. First both of the Walls parents are out of touch with reality. Second the parents act like kids and the kids have to act like responsible adults. Finally the parents are selfish, and care more about themselves than their own children. Both Rex and Rosemary Walls are unfit to be parents to the Walls children.

Maureen stabbing her mother seems like the effect of drugs and alcohol at first, but it is indeed the product of neglect. Maureen always practically lived with different families during her childhood because her neighbors felt responsible to raise her correct because they knew her parents would not be able to. This led to Maureen becoming reliant on other people while the rest of the Walls family were learning how to be self sufficient. This self sufficiency immensely helped the other Walls kids when they moved to New York, but Maureen was under a lot of new found stress because she could not fend for herself in a city full of people that do not care about you. This stress led to her taking drugs, smoking cigarettes and ultimately stabbing her mother. Maureen is not the only case of this happening. In

Her memoir as well as her autobiography, gave a new perspective to her life that showed how she become the person she is and the most important moments in her life that changed her. The book is in first-person view, which showed a lot of what she went though. Though the book is only in her view it does give an inside on the lives of the other character. But, it doesn’t show what is really going on with them. For example, Jeannette’s father, struggled with alcoholism though she always has a remarkable view on him. There had been certain things in the book that show that his life was struggle. Such as on page 43 when Jeannette’s mom jumped out of the moving car and ran into the darkness.

The last parenting style is uninvolved style. This is when the parent is cold and not strict. The parent is not involved with their children. They don’t have time for their children. Children with these parents end up acquiring many problems. “poor emotional self regulation, school achievement difficulties and frequent antisocial acts…” (Berk 389). As it mentions in Infants, Children and Adolescents, when this becomes extreme, this parenting style can be categorizes as neglect.
