A great theme that is represented in The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is rebellion. Rebellion is drastically showed more as you go throughout the sequel. The author does an amazing job to represent theme in general, but today the main theme will be rebellion. The first sign of rebellion is showed in The Hunger Games part 2. During this section each tribute is to display their best skill towards the crowd including the game maker. While the people are in a high balcony having a small party, the tributes basically have to work hard or be ignored. Therefore, if you didn't get their attention, then they will think you are weak and probably won't get sponsors. This changes when Katniss goes to show her skill. As she goes to …show more content…
Therefore she gets angry and shoots an arrow at an apple of a baked pig in the crowds dining area. This strictly showed she has no fear for what happens to her from there on. She basically said at that point that she is fearless and has the potential to do anything. In a true rebellion, you want to show that you are fearless and have the courage to never give up. Another great example that ties into this is the same book but part 3. Focus when Peeta and Katniss are the remaining tributes. So, they decided to fakely-eat poisonous Berries that would end up killing both of them. The rules changed and only one tribute can survive, this is the reason they are doing this. Knowing that they must have a victor right before they eat the berries, they change the rules again and they both live. The true character of courage and abusing the rules of the games shows that they don't care and will do anything to stay alive and show Panem that they have a voice. This represents the true moral that a human has as a living creature on earth, that everyone has a value in them. Katniss stood for what was right, which was to rebel the decisions made and face any consequences
In the Hunger Games and Catching Fire written by Suzanne Collins there are many different themes, but the theme that stood out the most was sacrifice. Sacrifice was strongly shown through all of the series. Sacrifice was first begun to show in hunger games. Sacrifice was shown many times, but the moment that stood out the most was when Primrose was drawn out for a tribute for the hunger games and Katniss volunteered for her sister(Collins 20-22). This is a very important scene because from that moment on her life changes forever, and it leads for many more sacrifices to be made.
An important idea that Katniss makes the audience think of is bravery. Every day since she was sixteen she has been going outside the wall to hunt for her family. When her father died and her mother slipped into deep depression she was the only one who could feed her family as her younger sister Prim was only seven. This bravery is shown
I chose to the modern mythology known as The Hunger Games a novel written by Suzanne Collins and later adapted into a feature film. The novel was actually part of a trilogy The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The story begins by introducing you to our main character Katniss Everdeen who lives in a world run by the Capitol where President Snow resides and has enforced a form of martial law on all 13 districts. Every year the Capitol hosts their annual Hunger Games which is a form of entertainment for the Capitol. Out of every district two tributes, one boy and one girl will be picked to participate in the Hunger Games which is a battle to the death. Whichever tribute manages to survive till the end will be rewarded by getting to stay in the capitol and their district will be given more food and supplies. The reason Katniss becomes a part of the games is because her little sister prim is chosen during the reaping to be the tribute so Katniss hearing her sisters name volunteers as tribute to save her sisters life but she tries to win the games for her district and to provide for them. The only problem is she finds it hard to murder the other tributes because they are all so young and she doesn’t see why she must kill them for the Capitols entertainment.
In the movie the hunger games by Gary Ross the antagonist of the story is clearly the audience because of the simple love of the games. In The Hunger Games the fans are cheering when a tribute beats another to death with a brick repeatedly.the fans were so excited to see this not just because it was the final two tributes battling it out.By them cheering it gives a sign to the people who run the game that the people of the capitol love it and they want the game to continue. Also in the movie there is repeated talk during the tributes examinations of a sponsor to give them equipment during the game.this alone can keep it going, Rich people can give resources to the tributes to
Syria has been in war for four years. The rebels versus the president, Bashar al-Assad, and his loyal troops. But in 2016, the war has worsened. One of Syria’s major cities, Aleppo, has been getting bombed relentlessly by Russia. Innocent people die everyday. Children are left hurt and parentless. People that survive unscathed try to flee the city, only to find they cannot. They are prisoners in the city they once loved.
“We had to save you because you're the Mockingjay, Katniss, says Plutarch. While you live, the revolution lives” (Collins). Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is a complex character who epitomizes the archetype of a hero, however, she also shatters the mold by rebelling against the capital and endangering her whole family. She starts out as a hero to her family, especially her sister, and then becomes the symbol of strength to everyone. Katniss sacrifices herself by volunteering to join the Hunger Games in place of her sister, it is a game of survival where a boy and a girl from each district are forced to fight the other members of other districts to the death. By going out of her ordinary world and preparing to join a game where her life could be taken, she fits right into the archetype of a hero. Her bow and arrow, the weapon that only she can wield, will be the only things to help her survive. Despite these heroic qualities, Katniss makes an erroneous decision and blunder mistakes that shows the reader the flip side of Katniss.
While it is perceived that The Hunger Games is about action and romance, there is a deeper meaning behind this well-known movie. The movie is essentially about a nation, Panem, that has been divided between rich and poor. The rich lived in the Capitol and the poor lived in the twelve districts. In the beginning of the movie, the upper class is shown to be dominant and superior. However, as the movie goes on, the lower classes begin to rebel in order to make their voices heard and to not be looked down upon any longer.
The Hunger Games, A book series by Suzanne Collins, differs in few ways from Veronica Roth’s Divergent. The Hunger Games lead role, Katniss Everdeen, lives in a world of few choices. The government controls the lives of everybody in the 12 districts. When Katniss’ little sister, Primrose, is chosen to fight in the annual Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She is forced to fight and forced to kill, all to survive. This competition results in the people fearing not only their government, but also their futures. Katniss becomes a symbol of rebellion against the
When you really like something, you work really hard to get it. If you are failing a subject, you work tirelessly to pass. In this case, The Hunger Games expresses a universal message that when you want to do something you can do it. In
In the history of cinema, most movies involving a hero 's journey involve mostly the same plot; man gets a call, goes on a journey, gets in a battle or two, and saves the helpless woman from some evil source. The Hunger Games has the same plot as other hero films, but takes a complete turn on the actor encompassing the hero. The hero in this film is a Katniss Everdeen, a poor girl from a dystopian society. In this film Katniss volunteers for her sister to be in the Hunger Games, which is an event where individuals are thrown into an arena where people from twelve districts fight each other to the death for entertainment. Katniss must win the hunger games and make it back to her family. Katniss eventually befriends Peta and they defeat all obstacles and win the Hunger Games together. The Hunger Games is a perfect example of a hero 's journey plot. It follows the steps that any hero journey movie would, including the call, crossing the threshold, a supreme ordeal, companions and mentors, a transformation and the end gift. This film encompasses the classic hero journey plot, with an exception of having a strong female lead instead of male.
The Hunger Games, the movie, was adapted from the popular young adult novel by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is sometimes described as another cliche love story for which the young adult genre is infamous. Despite appearances, The Hunger Games illustrates a complex and creative dystopian world with a much deeper underlying message, including topics such as, politics, history, and celebrity worship. The setting appears to be a futuristic version of America. This future America is very classist, and the tyrannical government is sure to keep the classes divided by heavily oppressing the working class. The working class is divided into twelve districts, which used to be thirteen districts until the thirteenth district was annihilated as a result of its uprising. In response to the thirteenth district’s resistance, the President created a game called “The Hunger Games” in an effort to instill obedience in the remaining twelve districts. Through the course of the movie, we learn that “The Hunger Games” are not only a mechanism to force obedience on the working class, but also to serve as entertainment for the elite society who live in the Capitol. The Games require 24 randomly selected children from the working class districts to fight to the death in an elaborately staged battle, all of which is filmed and broadcasted to the entire nation, working class and elite alike. Thesis: The Hunger Games, the movie, has a hauntingly feasible storyline and clear references to real
Rebellion is an important part of history, it has helped the world change in both good ways and bad. Rebellion is used in many dystopian stories, for example, The Giver, The Maze Runner and Divergent. The novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins prime example of this with the main character Katniss progressing from being one of many people from a poor district without a voice to being a person who actively fights the oppressive nature of the capital. Katniss goes through a realistic change over the course of the series, this shows how by the end of the book Katniss has changed from how she started out, a girl struggling to feed her family and how she progressed throughout the course of the book.
Much of the Hunger Games is centered around portraying a certain image, or identity if you will. The capital manipulates the weaknesses in their society and in their people to create an identity of unity and nationalism through the way they present the games to the districts of Panem. This idea of appearing to be one thing but really being another is ingrained in the society of Panem. District 12, in particular, maintains this image of complacency for the sake of survival, and Katniss is no exception to this.
When one loves a person or thing dearly, then they have the tendency to do almost anything they can to protect and save them from whatever harm they come across. Katniss volunteered for the games knowing she was saving her sister from a terrible fate. She made a promise that she would try her best to win the Hunger Games, but her confidence in her own ability to kill another person was minimal. She did not want to get any blood on her hands but knew that in order to win she would be forced to. The author of Genocidal Killer, Crispin Sartwell recognized situations like these when he said, “your goodness, like mine, has little to do with who you are and everything to do with the social conditions you find yourself in” (Sartwell). The circumstance Katniss found herself in was full of violence, pain, and ruthlessness which further contributed to the tainting of her
Most people have heard of the Hunger Games, but don’t know the true meaning. People say it’s a book (or movie) about innocent people getting slaughtered. It may look like that but there is so much more depth. When authors write books, they add their perspective and beliefs. It could be about government, religion and many more controversial topics. In the Hunger Games, the author Suzanne Collins shows what she thinks about government. She does this by relating the Hunger Games to the gladiators and Ancient Roman times. Even the names of characters relate. Hunger Games may not be a sweet and innocent book, but there is a good lesson behind all the violence.
