Recently there have been lots of protests during the National Anthem and pledge of allegiance. People from all walks of life are joining in to protest the unjust treatment of various groups of Americans. In recent news football players for the National Football League have been kneeling, locking arms, or staying in the locker room during the National Anthem. In an article in the Chicago Tribune titled “More than 200 NFL players sit or kneel during national anthem” by Arnie Stapleton Talks about how the players are protesting and why they are protesting. The author has a slant toward the players and their protesting. He talks about how Donald Trump “attacks” the players and he shows only evidence of people angered with Trump and nothing from his supporters. In the article the author talks about how the peaceful protesters are being attacked or singled out for no reason and that the protesters are not at any fault. In a line he says “The president's attack on athletes turned the anthems” He uses the word “attack” to try to convey Trump as the whole problem in the situation. There are many other words he could have used to make this line neutral and not slanted against trump. When he uses to word ‘attack” human minds automatically go to a battlefield like image where there is bloodshed and hordes of weapons and tools of mass destruction. He also uses the word “rant” to describe the statements by Trump. “Trump's two-day weekend rant”(stapleton) There are a plethora of different words that the author could have used to describe Trump's statements but he chose “rant” to help again with slanting his article. The word rant brings to mind an image of a lunatic screaming at innocent people about their far fetched conspiracy theories. In the article an abounding amount of charged words are used to help slant the authors
