Discrimination is when someone has a bias opinion on a specific crowd of people due to their race, sex, religion, or order of rank. This basically goes hand in hand with the phrase judging a book by its cover meaning the person with the negative opinion will not give the other individual a fair chance for the reason being they are being stereotypical and not thinking of the other person’s talent, or character. A modern day example of discrimination would be if a male employer were to compensate a female employee a lower pay due to her gender. At some time in everyone’s life due to today society, we have all been victimized by discrimination. Whether it may be a dirty look from a random person, or the way you dress, talk, and even look.
Discrimination is treating someone differently, often unfairly, because he/she is a part of a specific group, class or category of people. For instance, a girl named Wu Qing in China was discriminated against and could not find a job because how her body was a bit chubby and the scars in her face from an accident in her early childhood. Even though she was kind and used to be straight-A student, she had no friends. Now, she is looking for selling her kidney in order to pay the plastic surgery fee. Discrimination can change a person from innocent to evil is an important theme in the novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley. Even though
Diversity means to value and respect the differences and individuality of people. This means to embrace the differences between people and to treat a person’s race, culture, religious beliefs, age, sexual orientation, gender, physical and mental characteristics etc. with respect.

M1 Assess the effects on those using the service of three different discriminatory practices in health and social settings Discriminatory practice can be defined as making or showing an unfair or prejudicial distinction between different categories of people or their beliefs and practices, centred around race, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation and disability. Although there are many laws in place to protect individual rights against discrimination such as the Equality Act 2010, there are still cases of it occurring in many different situations including within the health and social care system.
Discrimination in healthcare is an ethical issue that is seen but is not primarily discussed, and is over looked. Discrimination is defined as “making a difference in treatment or favor on a class or categorical basis while disregarding individual merit, also acting on basis of prejudice and the denial of equal opportunity” ( Dienemann, 1997). Working in healthcare for 20+ years, I have experienced and witnessed discrimination among healthcare workers and as well clients. The behaviors and attitudes towards clients from other ethnic groups by nurses and clinicians is increasing in the health care system but it is not being addressed. Is it fair that clients be judged by their ethnicity and not receive the best
We have all heard of different types of discrimination. Discrimination is described as someone being prejudice against a specific group of people based on their race. I chose to talk about discrimination against a certain group of people in healthcare settings.
Discrimination is an action against someone which involves treating them differently based on their membership in a group. One example of discrimination can be found in the USA Today article “Muslim flight attendant suspended for not serving alcohol.” When Charee Stanley became a Muslim she informed her airline agency, and they provided a religious accommodation for her so she would not have to serve alcohol. However, a co-worker filed a complaint that Stanley was not serving alcohol. The complaint also mentioned a book Stanley owned which contained foreign writing and a head scarf she wore. As a result, Stanley’s religious accommodation was taken away, and she was put on administrative leave. This is discrimination because, despite the “religious
Discrimination is the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other people or groups of people. This idea is old as mankind itself. Since the beginning of time, people of a certain group have discriminated against people of the other races, beliefs, sexual preferences, etc. Some examples of equal rights movements which have occurred in America include the women’s suffrage movement, the abolishment of slavery as well as all African American civil rights movements, and most recently, the same sex marriage movement.
Discrimination in the workplace occurs when an employee experiences harsh or unfair treatment due to their race, religion, national origin, disabled or veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics. Discrimination is one of the biggest problems people face in the workplace and it must be dealt with forcefully.
Discrimination is usually associated with social injustice, in particular, improper criteria, usually race or gender distinctions, used as a basis for preferential treatment. Such discrimination is most evident in the workplace and institutions of higher learning. For an action to be considered discriminatory in this manner it is likely derived from a morally unjustified attitude, is not based on individual merit,
