Have you ever experienced something that challenged you or stressed you? were you afraid? Did you lie to save yourself? Well, these characters experienced a great challenge that affected their lives. Arthur Miller in The Crucible uses courage, weakness, and truth to explain to the reader what each character went through; what challenged them; how it affected them and the way they thought or reacted to things. These characters went through A lot and it affected them and the people around them. Courage is being brave. Courage is facing your fears and getting over them. Tituba had a lot of courage. She was accused of being a witch by Abigail and Hale. At first she said “No, no, sir, i don't truck with no devil”(Miller 43). After she got whooped and yelled at and threatened to be hanged, she confessed by saying “no, no, don't hang tituba. I tell him I don't desire to work for him, sir”(Miller 44). Tituba had a lot of courage to say that because she confessed to the whole village that she was a witch, which wasn't true. Elizabeth proctor is a great example. Her weakness was her husband and her family. She loved her family so much that even after her husband cheated on her, she forgave him and still loved and protected him and his name. She even lied in court for him even though she could have saved herself if she said the truth. When judge Danforth asked her “is your husband a lecher”(Miller 113). Even though she was known for not lying and always saying the truth she said, “no sir”(Miller 113). She continued to say that he was a good man and that was a mistake.
