Another great example of chaos in this play when Romeo and Juliet are married and Lady Capulet tells the “great” news to Juliet that she will be marrying Paris early Thursday morn at which she is not proud of and does not want to marry Paris even though the father rules the family, so as a result Juliet’s heart was not considered here's to give. Although Juliet does not want to marry Paris, she and Friar Laurence made a plan that she will agree to get married and will “die” from a drink, then wake up in the chapel with Romeo’s lips on hers and run far away with her Romeo. However, the result of the plan did not work the way Juliet and the friar expected. When Romeo goes to Juliet’s chapel and found her ‘dead’, he poisons himself because he
After Juliet and Friar Lawrence make their plan to fake Juliet's death, she tells her father she will agree to marry Paris. Ecstatic with her agreement, her father responds, “ Send for the county go tell him of this. I’ll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning” ( 4.2. 23-24). Capulet has just changed the date of the wedding. This leaves a very short amount of time to inform Romeo on Friar and Juliet’s plan. Also, in Act 5 Juliet has already taken the sleeping potion. Everyone thinks she is dead including Romeo. Romeo arrives at Juliet’s tomb, then after seeing her, drinks the poison to kill himself. When Juliet awakens, Friar Lawrence is there and she discovers Romeo’s dead body. Juliet grabs a dagger and says, “ Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die” (5.3. 169-170). This reveals that timing has just caused these two deaths. If Romeo would have known about the plan, if Friar would have arrived to the tomb earlier, or if Juliet would have awakened the two would still be alive. Two star-crossed lovers committed suicide because of terrible timing of
Ahmad Sheharyar Ms. Esposito English 9 3/13/24 Romeo and Juliet essay Friar Laurence, in an attempt to help Romeo and Juliet, ends up killing Romeo, Juliet, and Paris. In William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence is to blame for the death of the two star crossed lovers, because Friar secretly married the two and because of a plan that was made to fake Juliets death and that resulted in Romeo killing Paris and then Romeo killing himself, and after Juliet wakes up, she finds Romeo on the ground dead and ends up killing herself with a knife.
“ Romeo should have just minded his own gosh darn business instead of making more messes. Romeo was the last thing on juliet’s mind before she drank the potion friar gave her. Act 4 scene 3 juliet says, “ romeo, i come! This do i drink to thee.” Instead of romeo going and talking to friar lawrence about juliet’s “death” and what happened and then letting friar explain his and juliet’s plan to him he went to the apothecary which is basically a drug dealer to get poison to kill himself. Act 5 scene 1 romeo says, “come, cordial and not poison, go with me to juliet’s grave; for there i must use thee.” Romeo shouldn’t have killed paris he should have just talked to him because either way he was going to die but instead he fought and killed him. Act 5 scene 3 paris said, “o, i am slain’ (falls) if thou be merciful, open the tomb, lay me with juliet.” Rome does the last and most stupidest choice ever he kills himself. Act 5 scene 3 romeo says, “ here’s to my love! (drinks) o true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss i die.”
In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet two lovers are not meant to be together resulting in the tragic death of both Romeo and Juliet. The two lovers meet at a ball and fall in love at once, but they do not know until the end of the night that they are each from different feuding houses. They decide to marry in secret the next day. However, on that same day Romeo gets banished from Verona for killing Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, and Juliet is being forced to marry County Paris in the next three days. Friar Lawrence, give Juliet a sleeping potion that will make her appear dead for three day. But when Romeo arrives to see her dead, he kills himself leaving Juliet to wake up and seeing him
Romeo tried to break up a quarrel between Mercutio and Tybalt that was gradually becoming physical. Tybalt saw this and tried to fight him as well. However, Romeo did not wish to fight. Romeo felt a certain family-like love for Tybalt since him and Juliet were married and Tybalt was now his cousin as well. Tybalt did not know this and continued to provoke a fight anyways. Maybe, if Tybalt knew about the marriage, then the fight could have been avoided. At the same time, however, Tybalt might have been angry if he knew. The fight went on and ended with Mercutio losing his life and Romeo avenging him by killing Tybalt. The Prince of Verona then banished Romeo from the city, stopping him from seeing Juliet again. Due to the secrecy of their marriage, no one but Romeo and Juliet themselves saw this as a problem. Since Lord and Lady Capulet did not know about their daughter being married, they arranged her marriage with Paris. This then led to Friar Lawrence's second plan which involved the sleeping potion. When the potion put Juliet into a death-like sleep, only her and Friar Lawrence knew that it was a hoax and everyone thought she was dead, even Romeo. This caused him to kill himself to show his love and try to be with her in the afterlife. When Juliet woke up from her slumber, she saw a deceased Romeo and killed herself as well. This second lie and secret of Juliet faking her death to get out of marrying Paris caused the deaths of Romeo, Paris, and herself. Once both the Capulets and Montagues heard of their children's deaths and of all of their secrets, they became guilty and ended their feud. This is one of the only positive outcomes to come out of this tangled web of
Friar Laurence’s character flaws greatly impacted the end result of the play. The Friar should be punished for his poorly made decisions throughout Shakespeare’s story. His first mistake was when he initially helped Romeo and Juliet with the aid of the Nurse. Both Romeo and Juliet are children and their parents should be included in every decision made for them. The Friar married Romeo and Juliet in Act 3 of the play. “Till Holy Church incorporate two in one” (3.1.37) The marriage was the start of many issues. Such as Juliet’s inability to wed Paris, being a married lady. This led to Friar’s next choice of giving Juliet the sleeping potion—making her appear dead. “Take this vial, being then in bed,” (4.1.93) Giving Juliet the poison was the reason why so many characters had died in the end of Act 5 of the play. Paris had died fighting Romeo because he thought he was attempting to steal Juliet’s “dead” body. Romeo, ignorant of the fact that Juliet was not dead, killed himself. Juliet committed suicide because of her fiancé lying next to her lifeless. The poison given by Friar
“History is history. What is done is done” said Sister Souljah. The play “ Romeo and Juliet “ by William Shakespeare is about two teen from rival families that fall in love with each other but find out they can not be together; which ends in a tragic ending. Lord Capulet is responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death for three reasons. He doesn't let his daughter explain herself and is controlling over her. First, he practically wants Juliet to give up her life to someone she doesn't even like. Second, when Juliet states that she doesn't want to marry Paris, his response is very harsh. Third, he moves the wedding up, which causes Juliet to panic and go to Friar Lawrence for help.
“Romeo and Juliet” is a dramatic romance story that is full of love, hate, secrets, and lies. In Romeo and Juliet, the Capulets and the Montagues have a rivalry, a death penalty placed by the prince is threatened if the families have another brawl. At a Capulet party, Romeo and his friend, Mercutio sneak in, and he meets Juliet. They fall in love, and become married in secret, but Juliet is forced by her father to marry Paris after Romeo killed Tybalt, who is Juliets cousin. To avoid marrying Paris, Juliet fakes her death and Romeo thinks Juliet is honestly dead. He goes to her tomb and drink a potion that killed him almost instantly. When Juliet wakes up, she actually kills herself over the grief over Romeo being dead. In William Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet”, Friar Lawrence is ultimately to blame for the deaths of the protagonists, by cause of Friar encouraged them to secure their love, he neglected to inform both parties if his plan to fake Juliet’s death, and he left Juliet when she was extremely emotional.
Early in the play, Romeo and Juliet meet and instantly fall in love. In the infamous balcony scene, they clearly express their love and decide to get married. Juliet says, “Three words, dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If that thy bend of love be honorable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, By one that I’ll procure to come to thee, Where and what time thou wilt perform the rite, And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay And follow thee my lord throughout the world,” (2.2.149-155). Juliet has confirmed that she wants to marry Romeo the next day so long as he gives her a notice the next day. Romeo and Juliet are so in love that they are willing to rush into this marriage, not truly thinking of what is about to come next. They don’t stop to think about what this marriage will mean for the rivalry between the families and they don’t understand that maybe it isn’t a good idea. If Romeo and Juliet had considered the trouble that this marriage would cause, perhaps they would not have gotten married so quickly. Later, once Romeo has been banished to Mantua and Juliet is told she must marry another guy named Paris, she is distraught and runs to Friar Lawrence. Once there, Friar tells Juliet of a plan that involves her faking her death using a concoction that will make her appear dead. Romeo will then find her and they will be reunited and live their lives together away from their feuding
Reckless actions lead to untimely deaths. In Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”, both protagonists fight for their hopeless love. Bloodshed and chaos appear inevitable in fair Verona; Romeo and Juliet come from enemy households, the Montegues and the Capulets, who have sworn to defeat one another. The young and handsome Romeo weeps over his unrequited love for Rosaline, until he lays his eyes on Juliet. Strong and independent, Juliet seeks to escape her family’s will to marry her off to Paris, a kinsman of the Prince. Fate ties these adolescents’ lives together binding them to witness the ill-fortunes of Romeo and Juliet’s love. Romeo and Juliet prove themselves woefully impulsive through their words and actions, which ultimately
The play Romeo and Juliet is a romantic tragedy written by William Shakespeare about two star-crossed lovers from feuding families who die at the end of the story. Romeo and Juliet meet at Capulet party and instantly fall in love. With the help of the local friar, Friar Lawrence, and Juliet’s nurse, they get married after knowing each other only a day, without their parents’ consent. Shortly after the marriage, Romeo is banished for fighting and killing Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, forcing him to leave their city of Verona. At the same time, Juliet's father, Lord Capulet, tells her she has to marry Paris, a cousin to the Prince, or else he will kick her out of their home. Friar Lawrence comes up with a plan in which Juliet will take a sleeping potion which makes her look dead for 42 hours and then Romeo will come to Verona to get her and take her away with him to a city a day's ride away. Romeo does not receive the message that Juliet really isn't dead and believes her death to be true. He gets poison from a poor apothecary and dies beside Juliet in the Capulet tomb. Juliet wakes up to find Romeo dead beside her, along with Friar Lawrence who came to try and stop Romeo. Juliet refuses to leave and kills herself to be with him. After their deaths, the Prince declares that, “Some shall be pardoned, and some punished” (Shakespeare ???). The characters in the play that should be pardoned are Friar Lawrence, Lord Montague, and the Nurse.
On the other hand, it must be recognised that other characters apart from the Nurse, played a significant role in the misfortune. The flaws in Romeo and Juliet?s character- their hastiness, contributed greatly to their demise. Juliet?s extreme willingness to marry the day after she meets Romeo was much too unadvised and sudden, evidence of her hastiness. Romeo?s tendency to ?stand on sudden haste? is evident from the fact that he kills Tybalt in a sudden fit of rage and rushes to Juliet?s tomb, prepared for death, without first confirming her death. Friar Lawrence, too, was a character whose actions proved to be fatal. He did not heed his own advice of ?wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast?, but proceeded to marry and be supportive of the couple, knowing full well that ?violent delights have violent ends?.
Romeo kept on forcing the idea upon him, so he marries them hoping that their marriage would end the Capulet and Montague feud, even though he did not ask for the parents’ consent. He displays his hope when he says, “For this alliance may so happy prove / to turn your household’s rancor to pure love”(Act I, Scene 4, Lines 91-92). Friar Laurence kept Romeo and Juliet’s relationship secretive, making the situation worsen. Later on, the Friar shows that he has regrets about the marriage. The Friar feels that, “Violent delights have violent ends / And their triumph die… too swift arrives as tardy as too slow” (Act II, scene 6, Lines 9-15). The Friar senses that the wedding is happening too quickly and doubts his decision. He had the potential to prevent the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, but his decisions led Romeo and Juliet to do reckless actions under his ideas. Friar Laurence’s thoughtless decisions led to the deaths of Romeo and
Once in a while many people make bad decisions. Usually these decisions don’t cause them any harm in their futures, unlike Romeo Montague’s and Juliet Capulet’s decisions. In Verona, a city in Italy, two lovers fall in love. The catch is their families despise each other. Eventually Romeo get’s banished from Verona, and Juliet is forced to marry someone she doesn’t want to marry. Juliet takes a potion that knocks her out for 42 hours, and feigns her death, hoping she does not have to marry Count Paris. Romeo assumes Juliet is dead, and drinks a potion that kills him, and when Juliet wakes up and realizes that Romeo is dead, she stabs herself. In William Shakespeare’s tragic play, Romeo and Juliet, the main protagonists, Romeo and Juliet,
In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet should be considered a comedy due to multitudinous over exaggerated errors, scenarios, and hyperboles placed in the play. Since the beginning, the death of the two main characters could have been prevented if the Capulets and Montagues family had just gotten along or become more civilized. After all, ever since Romeo met Juliet at the Capulet’s party, many ridiculous events happened. Despite their love being forbidden, they vowed to get married. With this intention, Romeo asks Friar Laurance to be their priest and wed them. Not long after, Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet, told Juliet that she must marry Paris or he will disown her. Because of that, she begged Friar Laurance to help her. If he doesn’t, she swears
