Back in the day children use to work at factories to try and get money. The factories would hire these children due to the fact that they didn't have to pay them as much as an adult. So the children would get stuck with the jobs that no one really wanted. However, even though the children were getting paid, they didn't have the best work conditions. According to the passage and pictures given it proves that there is terrible work conditions that the kids have to work with.
To begin, in the letter from Mary Paul it mentions that there were many deaths throughtout the time she has worked there has been many deaths in a short amount of time. The children were in a very dangerous work environment where they were forced to work while they were hungry and tired which could easily cause a fatality. This obviously is strong evidence to pursuade inform people on how awful it was on children. The child that wrote the letter said she saw a man killed by a bail of cotton

The first example that is when scout goes and helps face down the mob. When Atticus is outside protecting Tom there is a big mob that shows up that is going to try and execute tom because of supposedly raping a white woman. Scout shows up and even though she is a little girl she isn’t scared and she protects Tom. Who knows what could have happened to her but she wasn’t scared. Next, Miss Dubose shows courage when she is facing her morphine addiction. It is very tough to get away from an addiction and Miss Dubose works very hard at it.
Obviously, Harper lee does an outstanding job on teaching many lessons but the best were racism, bravery, and perspective. There was a ton of racism going on at that time and Tom had to deal with a ton of it. Also It is important to get to know someone before you judge and look at their perspective. Finally, there was a great deal of courage from Scout and Miss
Courage is shown within the characters of To Kill A Mockingbird in several situations. The characters are challenged to face danger or pain without fear. The courage they display gives them strength and deepens their self-understanding as the novel progresses.
Finally, Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird is another character that displays courage throughout the book. The first way that Atticus shows courage is by shooting Tim Johnson, the mad dog. Tim Johnson had rabies and was coming towards their neighborhood. Atticus, who hadn’t shot a gun in years, had been known for his shooting skills and was told that he had to shoot the dog, if he had missed he could have harmed someone, startled the dog, or put them in danger which is why this incident was so courageous of him. Secondly, Atticus took on Tom Robinson’s case which took lots of courage because he knew how the town of Maycomb would react and the tormenting him and his family would go through. Not only this but Atticus was determined to
"Last Thursday one girl fell down and broke her neck which caused instant death. She was going in or coming out of the mill and slipped down it being very icy" (Paul). This quote emphasizes the daily struggles that young children faced during the industrial revolution as far as looking out for their own well being. Children initially were involved in the work industry as a result of machines taking over thousands of men's jobs. Pictures of the factories sent very negative emotions to all who saw them, despite the positive sounding letters that were sent home. The work industry, for children, was extremely dangerous, and as stated in the source, children often died will on the job because of poor working conditions. Although the letters that children sent home to their families may have sounded positive overall, the images of children at work are anything but pleasurable to witness. As a result of analyzing these sources, that working as a child could be lethal, however, the letter contradicts the pictures by claiming the work environment is pleasurable.
According to Eleanor Roosevelt, “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” (Goodreads). Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, courage is represented by Atticus, Scout, and Boo Radley. In the novel, some of the characters learn a lot about courage. The novel takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the Great Depression. Throughout the book, many characters have to find courage.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird there are many acts of courage. Some displayed their courage against evil that was strong at that time and help start the recognition of the cruel outlook on African Americans. Some displayed their courage to save themselves or another. Atticus Finch, Jem Finch, Arthur Radley, and Mrs. Dubose display courage exactly as it is defined.
Throughout the emotion filled novel to kill mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee, inspired me through her ways to show courageous things. Even the smallest characters that were hardly mentioned or only in the book for a short period of time were courageful. This book really shows me the outcome of having courage and doing the right thing even though it may seem wrong and make everyone think you are “ different”. Maybe it's okay to think outside the box and be willing to stand up for what you believe in no matter the circumstances.
There are many examples of courage in To Kill a Mockingbird and society today. In To Kill a Mockingbird, a young girl named Scout and her brother, Jem, look up to their father Atticus, who is a lawyer defending an African American. In their town, Maycomb, it’s unusual to support African Americans. Everyone can often get nervous and not show courage in different situations. However, many people show examples of courage by defending other people in their situations and doing things out of their comfort zone to help others.
Factory conditions in 1900s In this short essay of working conditions in 1900s. I'm going to be talking to you about the horrible working conditions. How they paid them and how of a small and disgusting places they had to live. the machines that created numbers and numbers of products at a time were very often extremely dangerous.
The connotation of real courage seems to be neglected due to courage mainly being associated with physical strength. Through the example of Ms. Dubose, Atticus attempts to debunk the misconception by teaching Jem that courage arises from mental persistence, rather than by a man with a gun in his hand. The women is an excellent example of real courage since she decides to conquer her morphine addiction despite the pain that her body endures during the process. Jem was commanded to read to her by Atticus, but it was more than merely a punishment. Atticus intended on teaching Jem a significant moral that implied to real courage.
Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird shows courage and respect throughout the novel. The book proves that even the smallest of characters can have the most courage. During the trial of Tom Robinson Atticus, Scout, and Jem face the depressing matter of Tom’s death and discrimination of the town’s people, but they stay strong in their beliefs and family. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee demonstrates courage through the use of characters. In To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many examples of courage.
In “To Kill A Mockingbird” courage is expressed by these three characters, Scout, Dill, and Atticus. For when Scout shows courage in the novel, is when Scout arrives with Jem and Dill at the jail house confronting the mob there. Plus when she defended her brother
For example, when Atticus reveals that Mrs. Dubose was a morphine addict, he said that she, “meant to break herself of it before she died, and that’s what she did” (111). Although the scene may seem insignificant, it teaches Jem and Scout that bravery is found in many different ways and situations. Also, after Boo Radley saved Jem and Scout while being attacked by Bob Ewell, Atticus said, “ Thank you for my children, Arthur” (276). Boo’s courage to step in and kill Mr. Ewell is what saved the lives of Jem and Scout. All in all, To Kill a Mockingbird holds many of different instances of courage and
I think it all began when I first watched the movie To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. From that moment on I was all about following the rules to the letter of the law. That is what law means to me, the boundaries that help keep everything in line. I did at one point have dreams and aspirations to become an attorney. I thought those dreams had been placed on the shelf, just to reflect on what could have been until I began working at the agency I am currently employed with. The area of law that they deal with is employment law. It is not an area that many are familiar with until unfortunately they are either facing being without a job or drastic changes to that employment. One could say that employment law is pretty cut and dry, nothing
Courage is strength. Courage is honesty. Courage is standing one’s ground no matter what. Courage is standing up for others. In Harper Lee’s classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout and Jem Finch, along with their father Atticus, live in Maycomb County, a small, mainly racist town in Alabama during the Great Depression. The Finch family’s neighbor, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus display acts of personal courage in the story. Specifically, Mrs. Dubose displays courage in her honesty and strength, and Atticus displays courage in his responses to racism based threats and keeping others safe.
Lastly, Atticus shows his kids how to show courage throughout the book. Atticus was a good example of showing courage when he took the Tom Robinson case. He knew Tom Robinson needed help and Atticus showed that it is always right to help anyone. He said “This case, Tom Robinson’s case, is something that goes to the essence of a man’s conscience, Scout. I couldn’t go to church and worship god if I didn’t help that man (Lee 139).” Another example of Atticus showing courage is when he shoots the dog so it doesn’t hurt anyone. Atticus did not want to shoot anything,
