I was born almost prematurely at five months, as explained by my mother who had a rough time carrying me. However, in my church, Greater Refuge Temple located in Charleston, South Carolina, I am known as the “Miracle Baby” because I almost came too early to survive. My mother informed me that she was on bed rest for the remaining portion of her pregnancy, but thankfully, I was born on December 07, 1982 to some wonderful parents, Kenneth M. and Gloria E. Lee. I have an older brother who is fourteen years older than I am, and he was my hero growing up even though I did not get a chance to be with him very long before he entered the military.
I grew up and attended school in Charleston, South Carolina until the age of six where

According to Hoyle (2006), “Transformational leaders are servants to others to guide them in creating and embracing a vision for the organization that inspires to bring forth top performance and creates a belief system of integrity, a cause beyond oneself, diversity of thought, and inclusiveness for all races and gender” (p.2).
As a transformational leader, I believe that it is imperative that I embrace a vision for the organization that inspires all stakeholders to aspire to become change leaders. I embrace the fact of allowing others to be able to feel empowered to share ideas, best practices, and experiences that will impact the overall benefit of the organization. My aim as a transformational leader is to make a difference in the workplace. I want to become a leader that my co-workers or one day employees will be able to look to me as a role model who is supportive and encouraging. I would like to thank President Dr. Tisdale, director Dr. Richburg, all the staff of the continuing studies program, all my professors, and Claflin University, for molding me into the individual that I am today. I greatly appreciate you all for instilling in me that the world need visionaries, and with your help, I am now a visionary for the
I studied transformational leadership as an instrument to convey a vision and execute it. A good transformational leader can have positive influence over workers satisfaction with their jobs, motivation and organizational performance.
Transformation leadership requires a leadership style that will collaborate with employees to move an organization forward. It is important
“The United States ranked #1 highest country to have 88.8 guns per 100 people an average of 270,000,000”(“Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted?”). On Feb. 14, 2018, the lives of students, teachers, and parents at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL would forever be changed. A former student Nicholas Cruz engaged in a mass shooting taking away 17 innocent lives: 14 students and 3 staff members, traumatizing the lives of fellow students. The Parkland, FL massacre is the most recent school shooting as students take immediate action in support of a stricter gun legislation, to prevent the endorsement of lives lost due to fatal school shootings. Firearm regulations are laws that enforce the sale and concealed carry of weaponry by a civilian with the permit of a legal firearm license. Gun control laws should be stricter for adults 21 and older for recreational
Transformational leaders engage with other people and create a connection that raises the level of motivation and morality in both the leader and follower. A transformational leader can protect herself or himself from the temptation to rely on their own thoughts, ideas, and actions by being open minded and consider
The role of a leader is to set vision and direction for an organization, and transformational leader “is often depicted as having charisma, or personal magnetism” (Golensky, 2011, p. 73). The most important attributes of this type of leader are self-confidence, determination, vision, and motivation which inspire followers to embrace the proposed change. In addition to having a moral purpose and a compelling vision for the future, transformational leader also “sets a personal example for followers to emulate and demonstrates confidence in the proposed new direction through frequent communications and interactions with other group members” (Golensky, 2011, p. 73).
“..the transformational leader articulates the vision in a clear and appealing manner, explains how to attain the vision, acts confidently and optimistically, expresses confidence in the followers, emphasizes values with symbolic actions, leads by example, and empowers followers to achieve the vision (Yukl, 2002)
Becoming a transformational leader can occur either because the leader has a model or mentor that is a transformational leader, because he/she is a born transformational leader, or through reflection. Senge (1990) wrote that “Learning through reflection is about finding the creative tension...between an understanding of current reality and a vision of desirable practice” (as cited in Johns, 2004, p. 24). In addition, Schuster (1994) noted that one who desires to become a transformational leader can cultivate certain qualities that are characteristic of such a leader: a stimulating vision for the organization, honesty, empathy, authenticity, the ability to defer self-interest to ensure that others are recognized, a holistic concern for the organization, the ability to share power with others, and the ability to develop others (as cited in Johns, 2004, p. 25). The transformational leader is also an effective communicator who persists during hard times and still has the courage to continue to move ahead even when fatigued and encountering difficulties (Schuster, 1994, as cited in Johns, 2004, p. 25).
A transformation leader is one who stimulates and inspires subordinates to achieve extraordinary outcomes (Robbins and Coulter, 2007). This
There are many components to being a leader; a strong leader has to be able to clearly communicate, to intensely inspire others to collaborate in bringing the vision to fruition. James MacGregor Burns a leadership expert introduced the transformational leadership concept he suggested that “the transforming leader as one with the ability to create visions and employ charismatic behaviors, they are purposeful and seek to understand the motivation and needs of their followers (Crowell, 2016). Not only does a transformational leader have the ability to empower and motivate others “transformational leadership emphasizes the importance of interpersonal relationships, and the goal is to generate employee’s commitment to the vision or ideal rather than to themselves” (Sullivan & Decker, 2009). According to Smith, (2011) the ultimate goal of transformational leadership is the leader and the follower to discover meaning and purpose in relation to their work, in addition to growth and maturity. There are four I's of transformational leadership " individualized influence, inspirational motivation, individualized consideration, and intellectual stimulation" (Riggio, 2014). The transformational leader causes changes in both the system and the individual. Creating positive and valuable changes in the followers with the result creating followers who will
Transformational leadership begins with a view of the organization in the future, a vision (Finkelman, 2012). A leader’s passion towards a vision should encourage other to accomplish goals. In my new organization I have noticed that if the leader it’s passionate about his/her job it sets a spark around others, a spark that enlightens others to push and finish with their job. “Communicating an attractive vision with enthusiasm and confidence, transformative leaders are said to build a strong sense of identification with the organization and persuade individuals to transcend their own self-interest” (Hutchinson & Jackson,
Transformational leaders express a clear vision, inspire others and work together with their team to identify common values and goals (Marquis and Huston 2009). They also recognise followers’ potential, assist them to develop their strengths and identify individual differences (Bass 2008).
The greater Cincinnati tristate area consists of 3 states. Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. All of these states contain there own individual attributives as well as unique personalities and groups. These groups can be separated into there own categories. The first being "The Yankees" they come from the most northern area such as downtown Cincinnati. The next group is "The Rednecks" this group consists of farmers from the northern Kentucky area. The last group is "The hippies" which consists of the outer Cincinnati and northern Kentucky area. Each of these groups offer unique skills that insure individuality and diversity in my home town.
Transformational leaders lead by example and provide a sense of mission/vision that is meaningful and exciting. When staff are excited about a vision, they are more likely to collaborate, share the responsibility, and move forward to assure the vision is successful (Al-Sawai, 2013).
