To begin with, the meaning of literature to me is way for the author to express a fictional or non-fictional story. Lyric poetry are a type of poem that express emotional feelings in the present tense. The majority of the time lyric poems rhyme but they are not required to. The Lyric poem “Eve’s Apology in Defense of Women” written by Aemilia Lanyer is a beautiful lyrical poem that demonstrates what every lyrical poem should include. All lyric poems depend on some type of meters(the rhythm of the poem) based on the number of syllables used or on the stress. There are six different types of meters, lambic, trochiac, pyrrhic, anapestic, dactalic and spondiac, but the in lyric poetry trochiac is the most used meter. Besides the meter there are three things that play a huge part in the writing of lyric poetry which is the use of symbolism, imagery and metaphors.
First, symbolism is a figure of speech that an author uses when he/she wants to create a certain emotion or moon in a work of literature. Symbolism is the use

Another way to think of a metaphor is a comparison between two contradictory objects that is made based on a characteristic they both share. In lines 807-808 in the poem “Eve’s Apology in Defense of Women”, Lanyer wrote “Yet Men will boast of Knowledge, which he took From Eve's fair hand, as from a learned Book.” she was trying to get the reader to understand that even though man was given knowledge from a god he still believed Eve over him. Comparing knowledge and books was a great comparison in the fact that it is assumed that if a book says it, it is true. It interpreted that man is weak to the woman in terms of knowledge, because Adam knew the words of god yet chose to believe her over a god which to a good would be a stupid mistake to
Symbolism is a characteristic that stands out in a person or thing. People usually use symbolism for something that means to them or represents to them. The symbols are used for many things, for example the apple on the iphone, laptop or iPod symbolizes the brand. Symbols are also used in churches, for example the cross symbolizes Jesus Christ. It symbolizes how he was crucified, put to death on a cross. The colors symbolize something’s to for example the colors white, red and blue symbolize freedom in the United States, it also represents the United States flag. Symbols are also used in movies like the hunger games catching fire; their symbol is a mocking bird with an arrow on it.
Symbolism, is also, another way of doing things. You can do things different with this. Like in the lottery, It symbolises death, if you get a doth on your piece of paper, you will die. So it's a 50-50 chance of you living or dieing. People don't like the lottery because it symbolises death..
A metaphor is comparing two objects without the use of like or as. One example of a metaphor in the letter is found in 39th paragraph and reads “Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away.”(King). This is a metaphor because it compares dark clouds to racial prejudice without like or as. Another metaphor is in the 39th paragraph and reads “the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted from our fear drenched communities, and in some not too distant tomorrow and the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty.”(King). This is a metaphor because it compares radiant starts to love and brotherhood without like or
Symbolism is used in many ways and writers use symbolism to “enhance their writing.” It can give their work “more richness and color and can make the meaning of the work deeper.” In literary work the actions of the characters, words, action, place, or event has a deeper meaning in the context of the whole story. The reader needs to look see the little things like a dove symbolizes peace, or like the red rose stands for romance. Mostly everything can have a symbolism meaning to it. For instance the flag symbolizes freedom and the stars represent the states. Even some signs are symbols like when a beaker has a skull with a bones placed like an ‘x’ behind it symbolizes that it’s toxic or bad. When people see the red light when driving that’s
Using symbolism can take your story to a whole new level by showing us how each character feels in additional it can make a person or even an objects stand out a whole lot more. In Eudora Welty they used symbolism in many different ways that you can even notice them right away.
Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. The use of symbolism gives readers the ability to find deeper meanings that are beyond what’s described on paper. In Ralph Ellison’s short story, “Battle Royale”, he uses blindfolds, the battle royal, and the narration to symbolize exactly what African Americans went through for equality and the struggle they had to endure.
can be interpreted in a different way. The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a short
THEMES-the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic.
We can see the poem deals with the entire story of man's fall from grace, including background for Satan's motives. In Paradise Lost, Eve was tricked by Satan, who assumed the form of a serpent, into eating from the Tree of Knowledge. Satan had whispered into her ear when she was asleep, and when he spoke to her later, he used his cunning to mislead her:
Symbolism is a major literary device that helps people see a book through symbols that often have a deeper meaning. A symbol is used to explain something in a different way, using images, objects, etc. instead of just saying it in words. As you search for a deeper meaning in a work of art or literature it can help you understand the authors intentions and the deeper significance of a work. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, symbols help reinforce the major themes of the book.
explicitly. Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. At the end of Chapter 9,
Symbolism in literature is using an object to portray a different, deeper meaning in a story. Symbols represent ideas or qualities that the author has maneuvered into his or her story that has meaning. There can be multiple symbols in a story or just one. It is up to the reader to interpret the meaning of the symbols and their significance to the story. While reading a story, symbols may not become clear until the very end, once the climax is over, and the falling action is covered. In William Faulkner’s, “A Rose for Emily,” there are multiple examples of symbolism that occur throughout the story.
Many novels have used symbolism to express certain feelings and emotions in discreet ways. What is symbolism? "The practice of representing things by means of symbols or of attributing symbolic meanings or significance to objects, events, or relationships" (Dictionary.com). Numerous authors use the same denotations to illustrate different thoughts or ideas. Mark Twain uses various symbols, such as the river and the land to expose freedom and trouble in his novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Symbolism is the practice of representing things by means of symbols or of attributing symbolic meanings or significance to objects, events, or ideas. Symbolism is one of the most common practices of writing, and has been used for centuries. Symbols can often tell a story better than a human can because of there deeper meaning. When epic poems became popular during the Anglo-Saxon period they were filled with harrowing tales of bravery, and courage. Epic poems are long narrative poems that often have characters facing impossible tasks and still finding courage to defeat them. While many marvel at the original Anglo-Saxon dialect of Beowulf, Seamus Heany's modern English translation allows all readers to enjoy this tale.
Poetry is a varied art form. Poetry is expression with words, using aesthetics and definition. Word choice in poetry is the single most important thing. Devices such as assonance, alliteration and rhythm work in a poem to convey a certain image or to facilitate understanding. Similes and metaphors can take two unlike objects, such as a potato and cinderblock, and if done the correct way use them to describe how Abraham Lincoln dealt with scoundrels. Poetry is beautiful. One of the best genres in poetry, let alone a great literary movement is Romanticism or the post-enlightenment Romantics.
