Electronic Voting Machines: Are They Good or Bad to Have?
As our world progress' in technology, you are starting to see almost everything become electronical. I am all for advancing technology to a certain degree, but some things I believe should be left the same. Having electronic voting machines (EVMs) could potienally be hacked or not calculated correctly, not everyone is computer savy, and I do not think volling ballots should be in a different language. EVMs sounds like a good idea until you really think about it.
Now days, anything and everything can be hacked into. The person who wrote "Everyone Should Be Able to Vote" states that "EVMs are safe" and that they are not "...connected to the internet" but that still does not stop someone from hacking into the machines or putting a bug onto the machine while they are voting. Like the person who wrote "Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea" states that in 2007 a "...malicious software can transfer EVM votes for one candidate to another without the voter noticing", and in 2014 "...dozens of voters reported that machines had incorrectly recorded their votes". If something like that happens, then all those people who voted will have to go back and vote again. Making it a hassel on everyone.

Not all of them will know or pick up on how to use EVMs easily; making it more difficult and more time consuming to vote. I am 23, so I have only voted a few times so far in my life. In my experience of voting, a lot of the people working at the voting polls were atleast 59 and older and still had a hard time giving me the right voter ballot to fill out or to even help answer my questions. So if I were to have a hard time on the EVM, I highly doubt they would know how to help me. I also believe that the more difficult it is, the less turn out of voters there will be in future
American citizens shall be able to make use of all technology available to digitally track their vote for the president of the United States.
For several decades, the American people are skeptical if their votes count due to various voting method. The election process is divided with dissatisfaction and inaccuracy in governmental elections. Set from the voters addressing how they vote, it still means a lot to them because it is what gets the people voice heard. There are voters that are uncertain of trusting the candidates that will make their laws and regulations, however many voters are still incline they have the power to vote them out from office. But when different types of voting equipment’s have their own problems it becomes prevalent to voters. There are ways of voting that would sometimes fail and the discovery of fraud in the voting process can make people question the American election. The rights and privilege to vote is what many Americans believe is the most essential part of being a democracy nation and an American. By keeping the American citizen trust the voting operation system must work properly and establish that the people’s votes are counted for. The American election administration is facing the new generation of technology that is designed for the usage of voting. The management of hardware and software can be a great challenge for many upcoming election throughout the years ahead. Today, there are several methods of voting equipment’s that are used for the election system. They’re
Even with all the technology we have, we still have an electoral college to represent us. Having this technology, citizens can represent themselves, and then the president would win the election by a majority vote. The candidates would receive a true number of votes straight from the people, instead of from representatives. Any citizen that is registered to vote could go to a website and cast their own vote, and at the end of the election each person will know that their vote truly stood for something. They would know that their vote was an actual factor in deciding who the president is; therefore, this gives power back to the
Voting should be an easy access to everyone; it is the cornerstone of representational democracy. The very thing that makes America a place where peoples voices are heard or at least make them feel that
EVMS are able to produce more accurate results than just regular paper ballots. When you vote for a candidate, it is stored electronically that you voted for that candidate. Computer software adds up all the votes for each candidate more accurately and efficiently this way. Computers work like calculators, and the only way to make a mistake using this method would be somebody inserting the incorrect numbers.
I think voting should be done via EVMs in the following essay I will tell you why, and also tell you how to fix some of the problems that voters may have with EVMs.The first and one of the most valueable assetts provided by EVMs is it's ability to provide ballots in different languages.A voter in which english isn't thier first language is less likely to go out and vote due to a fear of not understanding what they are voting for which is why a machine that provides ballots in an array of languages will most likely improve the number of voters.Paper ballots come in only 4 languages this is due to high printing cost with the EVM you save the printing cost and provide accessibility to ESOL voters.A second benefit to the EVMs is easy access to
Although EVMs (electronic voting machines)provide qualties of convience, security, modern technology, and etc., it will not make citiznes vote. "They help more people vote more easily." (Line 1) This satement is not only inaccurate, but an excuse made for people who do not realize the power and priveldge it is to be able to vote.
I believe that Electronnic Voting Machines would be extremely useful to todays society of people, especially in the United States. As the top article has stated, there is 33.7 million people of vating age with disabilities who are unable to get to the voting stands without major difficulty, that's 20 percent less likely to vote, which causes a major difference in the actual amount of people who believe in one topic over another. There is also the concept of having a machine that can change languages per user, so if we were to have a card that had our information on it and our first language than we could also help with the minority that don't know how to speak in English. Though there are plenty of arguments about EVMs being able to get hacked
In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution.
If people’s vote is not counted in the general elections; many unfavorable laws may be written; the people’s beliefs will not be listened by their candidate, and citizens will not be able to decide what the best for the country.
The United States of America should stick with old school paper ballots. On paper is safe, reliable, cheap, and cannot be tampered with. Protecting your votes should be top priority.
Being an adept of advanced modern technologies, I disagree with the author about considering communication technologies a danger to American democracy. Accepting or not, we live in a fast developing world where digital technologies have become essential in order to ensure a better life. Accordingly, e-voting represents an accommodation of the society to the digital world and makes citizen more responsible for their actions. By pressing the button on the digital screen to express a political preference, the citizen assumes responsibilities. Therefore, citizens have to press the button that indicates their political preferences and nothing else. Citizens should not overthink computer security since the government has enough resources to ensure
Political elections in the United States needs voters to physically go to the polls to cast their vote, and in an age where technology consumes most of our day to day activities, people are seeking out convenience more than ever. In 2004, more people logged in to vote on American Idol than showed up at the polls for the presidential election. At the rate technology is developing, online voting is still a debated issue. Although there are some downsides, like with anything, online voting is more efficient and accurate. It makes the right to vote more accessible to everyone, but the disabled and elderly will benefit most from it. When voting is as simple as logging in and taking a few minutes to cast your vote, more people will be motivated to vote. Online voting would make a positive impact on the United States voting process and would motivate more Americans to vote.
Voting is supposed to allow everyone the opportunity to voice their opinion, but with these new laws, such as presenting a photo ID, everyone is not getting a say so, so the votes aren’t accurate.
It is better not to use EVMs macines.Voting is a right that has to be taken seriously. It is best to stick to a method that everyone is most comfortable in.The reason why is the cost, time consuming and are not assesible to everyone.
