The effectiveness of Congress has been under scrutiny in recent years. The process involved in passing legislation difficult. In addition, strong partisan lines cause constant gridlocks that make it even harder for Congress to pass legislation. Attention is shifting to the benefits that Congress provides and countering the problems bedeviling it. In addition to passing laws being a sensitive function as the process ought to be thorough, the current strong partisan lines in Congress makes it possible for the voters to identify what each party stands for but has been behind the gridlocks the government is experiencing.

I believe that I am a good candidate for the Amy L. McKee-Everett Memorial Scholarship due to my caring and loving nature. An excellent example would be the time I gave back to Flat Rock River YMCA Camp this year, during New Years Eve. I volunteered as a counselor to a group of amazing girls. I wanted to volunteer my time, seeing that Flat Rock had done so much for me, in my seven years as a camper. It was time to give back. The 53 hours of time I spent helping out with all the girls, was immensely rewarding. I wouldn't trade my experiences I have had with Flat Rock River YMCA Camp for the world. Hagerstown Community College (HCC) is a public, not for profit, two-year college located in Washington County Maryland. HCC is one of the first colleges in Maryland that started by offering mostly evening classes. Today, the campus offers over 100 programs of study on its 319-acre campus consisting of associate degrees, certifications, and non-credit continuing education courses. HCC reaches out to four states for recruitment purposes: Maryland (specifically Washington County), Pennsylvania (mostly Franklin and Fulton Counties), West Virginia (Morgan, Berkeley, and Jefferson Counties), and Virginia (mostly the Winchester area). The campus serves more than 6,000 credit students, 9,000 non-credit students, and 800 high school students.

Throughout the last decade, technology had exploded in a way so immensely that nothing and nobody can stop it. Not even educators. This is why taking the easy way out of assignments has become such a frequently used method by students everywhere. It is evident that students of this generation have become complacent in a “short-cut” society.

Progressivism expanded across American cities and provided a variety of responses to issues of Americans after the introduction and rapid growth of the urban industrial order. Initially the progressive began as a social movement and grew into a political one. The goals of the movement varied addressing issues such as increasing democracy in the government, the improvement of working and social conditions and identifying and correcting issues of corrupted power.

In Amy Chua’s essay, “The Right Road to America” she argues the point that immigration is a great value of this country and that America was built from immigrants. One thing differs from Chua’s essay than from others because she not only gives highly credible facts on how immigrants have helped our country, but she also provides ways to improve the issues of immigration into America. In the first synthesis essay, examination of worldview was identified as one of the most important concepts necessary to understand and interpret medical anthropology. Worldview is the reason that there are many different types of medical systems. As explained in lecture, these include diagnosis, healing, and some form of payment to the healer. The study of these different medical systems falls under the term ethnomedicine. Singer describes ethnomedicine as the idea that all medical systems develop from “particular sociocultural systems regardless of the scale of the society.” For example our US healthcare system, based on western worldview, is a hierarchy of administrators who tell the doctors what they can and cannot do. Our devotion to the US healthcare system stems from our need to label the symptom or disease such as nasal drip and a cough can be labeled as a common cold. The worldview seen here is the need for immediate cures to avoid interrupting our busy lives. On the other hand, in “Touching the Timeless” with Billy Yellow from the Navajo tribe, there are many steps to prepare for his healing ritual such as the sweat hogan, where purification rituals are performed, in this case, before a strong spiritual ritual can be done. Thus understanding the worldview that comes with the development of medical systems is vital to understanding why the practices are being used and being able to compare these medical systems cross culturally.

It has recently been brought to my attention that our school is looking to adopt a sustainable menu into our meal program and I would like to give my viewpoint on the matter. As one many students here at Oxford Academy this change will affect me directly. Although people may at first oppose this conversion I think if we are able to overcome the first obstacles, this change would bring a great positive impact to the environment and the health of our students.

Attending college and obtaining a college degree are very beneficial because it allows you to acquire a superior job and gain knowledge. With a college degree, you receive the training, understanding, and skills required to perform well in your chosen career. A college degree, also, looks pleasing to respective employers and makes them more willing to employ you over others.

Metro West Learning Academy has been a positive experience for me. It has benefited me in many ways. Metro has helped me handle stress by alleviating it. At first I didn’t want to come to Metro. I was worried about leaving all of my friends but I made some here. And the teachers here have also made it better because of how individualized the program is.
