Decent Essays

Euthanasia is the termination of terminally ill person’s life in order to relieve them from suffering. A person who undergoes Euthanasia usually has a terrible condition. Mostly it is carried out at patient’s request but sometimes they might be terribly ill and decision is made by family members, medics or courts. This issue is at the centre of debates for years and is surrounded by ethical and religious conditions. The very first question that comes in our mind while watching this movie is…Is it ever right to end the life of terminally ill patient who is undergoing severe pain and suffering? Another question arises is…Under what circumstances can Euthanasia be justifiable? Is there a moral difference between murdering someone and killing them because they want to die(assisted suicide)? Apart from these questions, there are different ideas that people have about human existence. The human life which on spiritual basis is considered as an invaluable gift of God, can it be simply ended on the account of mercy killings? But what if the person is not able to bear that pain and he is suffering from years and person wants to die? The main ethical content of this film “You Don’t Know Jack” revolves around this argument. It is about mercy killing which can be supported on the basis that it puts an end to the suffering of terminally ill patient whose cure is certainly not possible. And it can be further backed by argument that a dead patient’s organs can give a new lease of life
