After conducting my research on the daily practices of Buddhism, my mind kept going back to one of the first articles discussed in the class. In the article it briefly discusses how Buddhism, even though commonly viewed as a lifestyle, can be viewed as a religion by his criteria. Jane considers the core principles of Buddhism such as being kind to your neighbor, loving one another, genuineness, and inner peace that she deems more important than all other actions that could be done in her life; This idea gives her reason to act the way she does each and every single day.
Overall, I am amazed at what I have learned through the ethnographic project. All biases that I thought I would have did not come into play in the slightest. It showed me that there is so much more out there in the world than I could ever imagine. This project was my first step towards having a better understanding of the world that I live in. Moving forward I know that I can use what I learned to better myself. Jane inspired me to find inner peace and be what she describes as the version of myself as possible. …show more content…

The treatment of major ceremonies is not what matters the most, but how you spend everyday of your life on earth. My hope is to get more interviews on individuals and see if my thesis remains true for a majority of the Buddhist practitioners.
