African Americans are heavily distributed in the Southeast portion of the United States. From Louisiana to Virginia, there are a lot of areas with 25% or above. The main reason for the concentration in the South is due to the slave trade of colonial times. African Slaves were brought over to work for the colonials. And most of the slaves were bought to assist cotton plantation owners, who live solely in the south due to the temperance of their crop. And once the slaves were freed, many of them stayed to farm as sharecroppers, and stayed in the south to make permanent homes. On a smaller scale, the only concentration of African Americans of 5%-24.9% in Minnesota is in the Minneapolis Area. This is because after slaves were freed, the United States went through an industrial revolution, and many workers …show more content…
One example of an ethnic cleansing in the 20th century is the Balkans, the area around former Yugoslavia. When Yugoslavia, a united nation of several states, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia among others broke apart, Bosnia & Herzegovina was split between ethnicities. The Serbs and Croats began an ethnic cleansing against the Muslims to try to create an ethnically unified state. They attacked and removed many Bosnian Muslims, and displaced more than 2 million. Another example of an ethnic cleansing is the genocide, (a mass killing due to an ethnic cleansing) attempted in Sudan. With two significantly different ethnic groups, the Northern Arabs sought to control the Southern Africans, and the Government-Dominating Arabs began to invade, bomb, raid and burn villages in Sudan. The nomadic Arabs knows as the Janjaweed as began to fight with government funding, raiding villages. The war ended with two separate countries being formed, Sudan and South Sudan, but not without many deaths and other atrocious war crimes
A lot were american-born. At this point in time many had american-born Parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents. Black life took of a variety of forms slave and free, rural and urban, and Plantation and farm and it was different from place to place. But mainly for the most part, African Americans were confined to the “Long Park along the North American coast region from New England to the Mississippi Valley and the majority was crowded into a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Tidewater and the Appalachian
The Bosnian-Herzegovina genocide or “ethnic cleansing” went on from April 1992 to December 1995 around the end of the Second World War. When Bosnia became its own independent nation on April 5th 1922 it wanted to “cleanse” its country of any non Serbian residents. The killing of Bosnian Muslims during this time was stated by international tribunals to be an ethnic cleansing however the events that took place in July 1995 in Srebrenica was so horrific it was deemed a genocide. The United Nations should have intervened a lot sooner than they did and should have sent more than just peace keepers to protect the human beings that were being slaughtered.
The South was a complete mess after the Civil War. The early part of the 20th century brought many changes for African Americans. There was a difficult challenge of helping newly free African American slaves assimilate among their white counterparts. They suffered from crop failures, economic hardships, and the early failures of Reconstruction in the south. So as result many Southern African Americans migrated to northern cities in search of employment and a chance at a better life. However, Southern African Americans migrating to northern cities quickly discovered that they were not able to enjoy the same social and economic mobility experienced by their European immigrant counterparts arriving around the same time. There were many
Genocide, the planned murder of an entire nation, race, or ethnic group. From March 1, 1992 to December 14, 1995 that exact thing was happening in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Disagreement between the three main ethic groups (The Serbs, Croats, and the Muslims) proceeded in a genocide committed by the Serbs against the Muslims in Bosnia. Bosnia is one of several small countries that appeared from the break up of Yugoslavia, a multicultural country created after WW1 by the western allies. In April 1992 the government of the Yugoslavia republic of Bosnia stated its independence from Yugoslavia. Over the next several years, Bosnian Serbs commanded Yugoslavia army and targeted Bosniak (Bosnian Muslims) and Croatian civilians for terrible crimes resulting in the deaths of about 400,000 people. In other words, America should have helped in the Bosnia genocide.
African Americans moved from southern farms to the North. In the North, they lived in segregated neighborhoods, faced violence, and were given the worst jobs. Conditions in the South were even worse, because state laws deprived them of civil rights and segregated them from whites (Schultz, 2014).
They were remotely any slaves on the south, so a plethora of African Americans would pergrinate to the cities in the South. In some cities African Americans and white people lived together without a quandary so segregation was not visually perceived
They occur and we neglect to notice the unearned inequity. Even though genocide is difficult encounter as actuality it is. The Bosnian genocide was a heartbreaking event that caused misery and loss of lives to 100,000 with 80,000 being of the Bosnian culture (Bosnia-Herzegovina). March 1, 1992-December 14, 1995 35 dreadful months for the Bosnians. If you think of all the terrifying things done to them they would sometimes rather be dead than alive. Could imagine being in so much agony you would wish you were dead. The perpetrators, the Serbians were making an effort to exterminate the Bosnians. They were stopped by the Bosnians who fought for their lives. This would be recognized as genocide because it shares several characteristics with
The ethnic cleansing of the United States has been a topic of discussion in Germany for more than a century. Authors like Karl May and James Fenimore Cooper popularized western fiction. Adolf Hitler discovered May at the time he entered realshule and Cooper at the time he entered volksschule. After the Munich putsch of 1923, Karl Haushofer taught Hitler of lebensraum, the idea of Manifest Destiny in the United States transposed to a German-defining East in Poland and Russia. Inspired by the stories of May and lebensraum, Hitler repeatedly compared Manifest Destiny in the United States and a German-defining East in Poland and Russia. To what extent did western fiction influence the political landscape and Hitler’s War in East Europe?
Since the beginning of time, man has always found ways and means to distinguish himself a step above his neighbor. In the sciences, this innate behavior of humanity is described as a natural phenomenon, which is to be expected when members within a community are in competition for similar resources and opportunities. However, since the dawn of civilization, man has risen above this ‘dog-eat-dog’ mentality to consciously fashion more sophisticated avenues/models to place himself above his fellow man, based on elaborate philosophies, culture, religion and physiological differences (with the most obvious being complexion ), to mention but a few.
The first English use of the phrase was used by Donald Forbes, a Reuters reporter, who was quoting Croatia's Supreme Council: "The aim of this expulsion is obviously the ethnic cleansing of the critical areas . . . to be annexed to Serbia" (New York Times). The phrase is used later to define events in Serbia where Slobodan Milosevic, known as the Butcher of the Balkans, would level cities, mass murder, and rape the local populations of Croatians which created 2 million refugees (CNN). Again, the tactics are all too similar to those used by Israel to drive out the Arab peoples. Moreover, the term is used today describe most cases of expulsion, imprisonment, or killing of an ethnic minority by a dominant majority. It doesn’t matter what definition you use or what other historical examples you use to define the phrase because it doesn’t change the main purpose of Pappe’s book, which is, to demonstrate that the Arabs were forcibly removed from Palestine using violent and non-violent means (Pappe 2).
It is the Darfur genocide. Arab militias called Janjaweed go through Western Sudan. They burn villages, intentionally killing Darfurians, looting economic resources, raping, murdering, and torturing them. Over 400,000 Darfurians have been been killed and over 2,500,000 have been displaced due to such events ongoing. Another genocide that was not too long ago was the Bosnia genocide that lasted about 4 years, 1991-1995. The reasons why this happened was because Bosnia and Herzegovina wanted independence. That wasn’t given, so the Serbs started targeting Bosniak and Croatian in the areas where the “cleaning” was taking place. This genocide claimed the lives of 100,000

Ethnic and racism discrimination in the United States of America has been a major problem since the thirteen colonies created and the slave era. The leaders of the colonies wanted to build a country that represent all the people who are living in it without giving control to big powers that can decrease the representation of the people. They placed laws in making the American constitution that protect all the people of America. However, these amendments were mostly protecting the White Americans which not approved to Native Americans, Asian Americans, Latin Americans, and African Americans. Laws and amendments kept being added to the constitution so that the rights of every person who lives in the United States remains protected, and one of the most important amendments of the constitution is the fourteenth amendment, which freed the slaves and gave human equality and rights for all races in the US. Thus, African American still suffer the most today when a young white male shoot and killed nine African Americans in church in Charleston South Carolina (Schaller). My research paper will consist of subjects whom they are related to race discrimination and what happened lately in Charleston church and who was behind this massacre and what was his motive to do such thing. For my research paper I will argue about the South Carolina’s racist history and how the history influences some young males and turn them into racisms (Schaller). Also, I will discuss how flags play a huge rule
The socioeconomic status of African-Americans also plays an important part in the health disparity present in this minority group. According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the largest state population of African-Americans is seen in New York at 3.3 million. In 2000, it was estimated that 88% of the United States African-American population lived in Metropolitan areas. A 2007 article in California Law Review entitled Fast Food: Oppression through Poor Nutrition, very plainly points out that the location of most
There are many examples of nation states removing the unwanted races through genocide. In his book about the Balkans, Glenny addresses how the United Nations definition of genocide involves murdering through ethnic selection but also forced migration. According to the UN Genocide convention in 1948 genocide is defined
