It is without a doubt that the government of the United States has changed in the ethics department. Unfortunately, the United States has had its share of unethical leaders in its past, but nothing compared to the leader it has today. Many people affected by the actions of our leaders and it is very unfortunate that they are not taken into consideration of the challenging work they put to make this country great. The United States president and his group known as Trump Administration, are far from knowing or respecting the word ethics in any terms. Currently there are increasing concerns about ethics in the business world and the undoubtedly the results of self-interest, misuse of position, financial disclosures, and other areas of concern. With that being said, the government enacted The Federal Sentencing Guidelines for corporations to act more ethical, unfortunately the government feels it is not entitled to follow these guidelines. In recent reports, there are findings of funds spent on for personal use from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Veterans Affairs, and other departments as well. These departments have been spending money on each other instead of helping veterans find or offer some form of housing. The President overlooks all these departments spending the money as it was theirs. In fact, nothing different can be expected from the President himself, instead of putting his businesses and real estates for sale or in a trust, he set up a system that allows him to have complete control of the businesses and real estates and his two sons run the daily operations. Soon after the president took office, he was asked if he was giving up his businesses and concentrate on running the country without disruptions from his businesses. He actually said he could run both, his businesses, and the country without getting tangled up on minor details. He also claims that his businesses are not interfering with any conflict of interest laws and tells he is exempt from it as well. Consequently, patriots believe that there is so much corruption in the government and it is getting bigger. The office of Government of Ethics cannot keep up with the President’s decisions and need to update a lot of their rules and regulations. In the Business Law book, it explains code of ethics and moral are, it should be encouraged for the President and his Trump

One of the first things to evaluate in an ethics audit is if a company has a written code of ethics and how comprehensive it is. Moreover, the written code of ethics should apply to everyone in the company from the top down with a clear zero tolerance policy in place for ethics violations. Included in a comprehensive ethics code should be a method for
There are many ethical dilemmas that occur daily in our hospitals across the world. Not everyone agrees with standards and policies that are required in hospitals or even with the law. If not everyone obeys the law, ethical cases form. In Springfield, Missouri, a holistic nurse got fired for fighting against Cox South hospital policies. Carla Brock has been a nurse at Cox South hospital and not only refused the flu shot, but also refused to wear a mask. She refused due to religious beliefs, she gets short of breath while wearing the mask, and she feels the mask is meant to intimidate and humiliate those who refuse the shot. The ethical question in this case study is to decide if Carla should have been fired for not wearing a mask after refusing the flu shot and what are other potential proposals. The four-way method will separate out what are the truths, consequences, fairness, and character, of this ethical case study.
A proliferation of headlines abounds regarding leaders and questionable ethical behavior. Examples in both public and private sector are easy to find. In business, one can look at the Wells Fargo scandal where employees fraudulently opened customer accounts to achieve management sales quotas and the case of Mylan Pharmaceuticals price gouging of the EpiPen as examples of unethical behavior. A quick open of the New York Times and you can read editorials on the Trump Administration and his use of the White House for personal gain, disregard for the anti-nepotism law and questionable associations and political appointments of persons such as Scott Gottlieb, Carl Ichan, and Steve Bannon. Governor Robert Bently of Alabama is currently being investigated
Although codes of ethics have become part of the public relations profession, Newsom et al. (2013, p. 49) state that not all practitioners adhere to their respective standards. Bernays (1998, p. 29) notes that unlike most other professions, public relations lack an ethical code that gives the state the power to restrict the practice of those who breach any such code. Bernays (1998, p. 32) believes the public relations profession should have ‘…registration and licensing by the state…’ so that both the practitioners and publics can be confident in the profession’s ethical standards. The Public Relations Society of America’s code of ethics was first implemented in 1950 but is essentially unenforceable (Fitzpatrick, cited in Sha 2001, p. 122).
Watergate Scandal has been considered as one of the darkest chapters in American history. The event not only refers to unethical use of power by the public representatives but also levied great deal of attention on the mechanism of surveillance over the activities of public servants. Watergate scandal provides ethical directions not only to public servants but also provides ethical guidelines to the lawyers and media representatives as well. This incident reveals how ethical lines were crossed time and again by the politicians, legal attorneys and media for their own purposes. Ignoring the righteousness of the outcomes, events like these cause severe damage to the public's trust vested in these authorities which takes a long time to restore.
By instituting historic restrictions on lobbying to close the revolving door, expanding and elevating ethics within the White House counsel's office, and opening the White House press briefing room to media outlets that otherwise cannot gain access, the Trump administration has broken new ground in ensuring our government is both ethical and accessible to the American people,” Dubke said.
Reviewing the ethical dilemmas on this topic listed earlier, those with some type of religious background will most likely have a harder time accepting this new area of scientific development. Whereas, those who do not involve religious beliefs in their view point may see CRISPR as a revolutionary scientific discovery that will significantly benefit the greater good. Allowing CRISPR to be further research, and hopefully one day used, can greatly impact billions of people in such an amazing way. Living with an incurable disease or having the potential to develop one later on in life can be detrimental to not only the individual, but the individual’s family. Eliminating terminal genetic diseases will not only relieve people of pain and
Ethics is the guiding force in any respectable organization. With a moral compass, especially in the leadership of organization, a company can become compromised and fall into a quagmire of legal issues, a tarnished reputation, and devaluation of company stock if it is a publically traded company. It is only during moral lapses and corporate scandals that interest groups and the broader public ask themselves the fundamental ethical questions, who are the managers of the organization and were they acting with the ethical guidelines. For a long time, the issue of ethics was largely ignored, with organizations focusing on profit maximization. However, this has changed, and much attention is now focused on ethics management by researchers and leaders. The issue of ethics has arisen at a time when public trust on corporate governance is low, and the legitimacy of leadership is being questioned. Leaders are expected to be the source of moral development and ethical guidance to their employees.
The Trump administration has done many alleged unethical activities. The first alleged unethical activity was when President Trump did not sell his business even he should have, according to the custom of past presidents selling their businesses when sworn in as President of the United States (Bookbinder, Eisen, Painter & The Staff of CREW, p. 5). As a result, President Trump is committing a conflict of interest (Bookbinder, Eisen, Painter & The Staff of CREW, p. 5). Leaders are well-defined as somebody who leads a peoples, a person who guides peoples towards certain goals. Yet, Leaders are not always just about leading somebody. Leaders are someone who inspired us, someone we look up to, and someone who can turn ordinary things into something astonishing. In order to be able to persuade others to follow a course of action, a leader must have personal integrity. The person who cannot be trusted, cannot lead, the people will not be guided by someone in whom they don’t believe.
Ethical leadership is leadership that is involved in leading in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of others. As leaders are by nature in a position of social power, ethical leadership focuses on how leaders use their social power in the decisions they make, actions they engage in and ways they influence others. In the preamble of Executive Order No. 20, Governor Haslam asserts that “establishing, communicating, complying with, and enforcing a comprehensive ethics policy within the Executive Branch… essential to maintaining public trust in government and ensuring the proper performance of government.” After the perambulatory clauses, Executive Order 20 adheres very closely to the basic format previously suggested that most state government follow. The second clause discusses potential conflict of interests to avoid: “using public office for personal gain, giving preferential treatment to any individual, impeding government efficiency and economy, losing complete independence or impartiality, making government decisions outside of official channels, and affecting adversely the confidence of the public in integrity of government” (pg. 1-2).
While ethical dilemmas can be avoided, they are not decided based action, but choices that are taken. Ethical dilemmas compromise integrity, it inhabits public trust and it is not always a response of personal risk assessments.
