This beautiful beast does not only pridefully take on his role as “King of the Jungle” but he’s is also an inspiration to many of his followers. He is recognized as brave and prideful. Although he’s all of these great things he has a hidden truth. The lion is probably the most terrible dad in the animal kingdom.

Every species must constantly be running the race for supremacy, as evident in the phrase, “Survival of the fittest”. Most commonly presented in lion prides, the utilization of alliances is crucial for the survival of members. Prides use each other’s strength to cooperate when taking down prey, protecting territory from other prides, and for protecting the young cubs from intruding outsiders. Yet these familial bonds are not impenetrable. Lionesses will attack other males within the pride if they get too close to her cubs, sometimes those males are her own offspring that have grown into adults.

The lions scrutinize their prey through the tall, dead grass ready to attack. They slowly creep towards their prey; eyes gleaming with hunger. The lion streak towards their victim, leaping to rip the creature apart. In the story, “The Veldt”, by Ray Bradbury, a nursery created a fake African veldt to keep the kids entertained. The kids are then addicted to the “game” and complain when their parents want to shut it off. The kids lock their mom and dad in the nursery with the African creatures. Africa is the most frightening part of “The Veldt” for many reasons including: how the veldt changes the children, the way Africa is interacting with the humans, and how much violence the creatures show.

We have written this paper to gain insight on lions in captivity and establish the differences between lions in the wild and in zoos. The paper will focus on the mental, behavioural and physical effects, while also stating how zoos are involved in conservation.

After reading both articles, it is obvious that the treatment of African Lions is extremely inhumane.

If these animals were to become extinct it can cause a giant boom in the herbivore population which can cause a drop in vegetation that is available for humans and the animals that are in need. It is a chain reaction that effects everyone that is involved. Where as, African Lions are at the head of the food chain; when the leader of the food chain is then knocked off, it could gravely affect other important species that depend on the lion. But there are plenty of alternative solutions that could be used to help these African Lions. Lions of certain ages help ensure that the African lion can continue breeding. There are so many different options but there are the fantastic three that have the best chance of saving these majestic creatures of the Sahara. Instead of small fences, we can start raising money to create a large reserve so that the lions can roam freely and comfortably as they please to.
