A girl who studies hard for a test receives a 96, while a boy who cheats and did not prepare for it receives a 100. Is it better for the child to get the better grade, or for the student to learn what is being taught? Actually learning the material while gaining knowledge is more beneficial than getting the better grade if someone does not deserve it. Doing things the correct way for the right reasons is more important than the end results because people learn essential life lessons that will positively affect their lives. If someone does something for the right motivations they learn to be determined. They learn that they cannot receive everything that they desire by just wanting it, and they learn that they need to work hard and follow
Grades tend to be more hurtful than anything. They have negative effects on students and how they learn. Cheating can become a series problem even with students who normally wouldn’t cheat. “Researchers have found that the more students are
Motivation is something that we as human beings all possess. There is obvious levels of motivation, these levels make a substantial difference between a regular Joe and a multi-billion dollar executive. What drives a person to reach his/her full potential is motivation, whether good or bad. Sometimes tragedy as awkward as it may sound will provide
In the novel life lessons:two experts on death and dying teach us the mysteries of life and living. The novel talks about many lessons such as
People need self-motivation to succeed because not every problem can be solved by others, some have to be solved by oneself. When conflicts arise, individuals need to seek out the path of best fit to conquer the issue at hand. Throughout my entire childhood, I aspired to be a great swimmer. When I was a young adolescent, my favorite sport to watch during the Olympics was swimming. How could someone move so fast through the water? The extremely close races and extraordinary comebacks always excited me. I wanted experience the thrill for myself.
Part of the issue is that they did not track their progress along the way. There are many ways to track one’s progress, and the book gave some examples. One way to track progress is to get a friend, family member or coworker to hold you accountable and keep you on track. The book talked of many studies that were done which said that having somebody else there to hold you accountable for your actions increased the chances of those people to stick to their goals and finishing them. Another way to track your progress is to form good habits early. When a habit is formed, people were also more likely to have increased willpower to complete their goals. Another way to form good habits is to use tools such as someone holding you accountable or tracking your monthly or yearly progress. There was an example in the book given that said to reflect on your growth on a year to year basis. Doing this would give you a track record to look back on, which helps to track progress as well as give more incentive to keep moving
You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period. (Chris Garnder).
Throughout our life we will always meet many people that teach us major life lessons,
For example, maybe you’re a student who gets C’s, you don't arrive at school on time, skips breakfast, you don’t pay attention, simply giving up not even trying to complete work knowing you have the intelligence and the potential, but suddenly you realize this is your education not many are blessed to waking up to a good breakfast, kind and patient teachers, so you start striving for a better grade on that test, you hate studying it is boring but you find ways to make it fun and now you got that 100 and take pride in yourself, good job!
Second, people cheat on tests in school. They may not realize at the time that by doing this, they are cheating themselves out of their own education. Is the passing grade what is really important, or is it the knowledge they have deprived themselves of? Cheating does not increase their knowledge or make them a better person. What they don't realize is that once they enter their career they won't have the knowledge they need to do their work successfully.
Motivation can be defined as the desire or inspiration to carry out specific tasks or to do something. Motivation is required when goals are being set and more so in their execution. In a work setting, motivation can be defined as a process through which individuals choose between alternative forms of behavior with the aim of achieving personal objectives. The goals sought by individuals can be extrinsic or relatively tangible such as monetary rewards and promotion, or intrinsic or intangible such as self esteem or job satisfaction (Armstrong, 2006). In learning, the desire to attain good grades is what motivates a student to study hard everyday as they prepare for the exam. On the other hand, for a teacher to put his best foot forward, he
Growing up I have been around death here and there but have never experienced the grief or misery of losing someone so important and close to me as I did at this time in my life. In the year of 2008, when I lived on a farm in the Philippines, I experienced the loss of my dearest grandfather that greatly affected me and changed me forever. That year, I learned one of the most important lessons in my life, to never take a loved one for granted for I never know when their hearts will stop beating and lose the chance to say my last goodbye.
A theory that supports motivation is the self determination theory. In the self determination theory people need to grow and gain fulfillment by a drive in them. Self Determination is the process of deciding how to act on ones environment. When one is trying to overcome a challenge or encountering a new experience a person wants to gain the knowledge to succeed over the new challenge. When self determination theory is in focus internal factors are at play; a person is primarily focused on the need to gain knowledge or independence. There are three factors that contribute to a student’s self determination and the needs are linked to the student’s
All through life, we experience various occasions when decision-making become necessary. A number of them present themselves in difficult forms and at crucial points. Most of the verdict we take will eventually figure and describe our track of lives. These are what we refer to as lessons of life. Choices never present themselves in an easy way. In some instance we are always forced to pay a price to achieve something. This implies that we are trading for an outcome we are seeking.
When I think of Thích Nhất Hạnh, words like – stillness, love, compassion, peace and oneness, come to mind. And even though these are some really beautiful and powerful words, they somehow can’t really express the beautiful, pure and loving feelings that I get from reading Thích Nhất Hạnh’s books and watching his beautiful videos.
Regina Brett, a 90-year-old woman whose lessons have helped many people, shares some sage advice that everyone wants to hear. She lists 45 lessons for the world and the following are characteristics of those she considers to have a “well-lived” life: when one always remembers that even though life isn’t fair, it is still good; when one wastes no time hating others; when one doesn’t take themselves seriously; when one doesn’t feel the need to win every argument and agrees to disagree; when one starts saving for retirement with the first paycheck; when one makes peace with their past so it won’t ruin the future; when one is able to let others see them cry; when one doesn’t compare their life to others’; when one only has relationships that can
