INTRO-
Imagine if your childhood dream to play in the elite sporting team of your choice came true
Imagine if once you were in that team it was everything that you could have dreamed for and more
Imagine that believing that you were doing the best to continue your dream you you did everything your coach asked of you and everyday you put your body on the line physically and mentally.
BUT
Imagine one day out of the blue, you woke up to find your childhood dream crushed and taken away from you in a flash.
Imagine realizing that you no longer had a good reputation or a potential football career?
Imagine..
Good Afternoon Year 12, I strongly believe that WADA’s decision on the Essendon Football club was unjust and unwarranted.
On the morning of Tuesday 12th January, the players of the Essendon football club went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for the very last time to find out the verdict of the anti-doping violations. ‘34 past and present players’ among those their captain Jobe Watson and vice-captain Dyson Heppell, were found guilty and suspended for the year of 2016 for their involvement in the doping scandal. As Essendon’s chair man Lindsay Tanner said “The penalty imposed on the 34 players

Not once did anyone put the players duty of care in front of their own. Not once did anyone consider the consequences that would evolve from this situation. Everyone, not just the Essendon football club are entitled to a duty of care from people around them, school teachers for example have a duty of care to their students, employers have a duty of care to their employees. So why did the club think they could get past it, look the other direction at the mistakes they were making and the lives they were putting on the line. As Jeff Kennett said, “(The club’s) duty of care was non-existent and a slap in the face to the AFL commission and its
That's exactly what happened to former OSU basketball player Mason Cox when he was given the opportunity to play not professional basketball, but professional Australian Rules Football. One might expect that would make for a difficult transition, but Cox is the same guy who played on a high school soccer team that won the
Good Morning, Class! “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love.” This is a quote from St Francis and I think this depicts everything about Mt Alvernia College since this quote is part of our peace and college prayer. Mt Alvernia nurtures the beliefs and values of St Francis and St Clare because they are great role models and because they provide a stepping-stone for a genuine catholic education, for 21st centurial women.
In light of the recent verdict against Essendon due to the drug scandal and the implications it has for both the future of the players involved and the public perception of the AFL, debate has arisen over the fairness of banning 34 past and present players from the 2016 season after being found guilty of taking a banned substance during the 2012 season. In her opinion piece published on the 21st of January 2016, “Banned players are not victims”, author Rita Panahi utilises a harsh and critical tone to convey the viewpoint that the verdict was fair, and that the banning of the players was a just response to the scandal. Panahi’s critical, yet factual, approach seeks to evoke feelings of justice in the reader, likely football fans themselves who may have already grown impatient and angry due to the scandal.
Do you know anyone who is interested in playing soccer? Well if you do tell them that I am a team leader for a soccer team and I have some great advice for them. Please tell them that in order to become a good soccer player you must always be a team leader, don't get lazy on the field, and always stretch before a game or practice.
“With courage let us all combine” - taken from the Australian national anthem celebrates the courage of refugees and of people who speak out against persecution and injustice. This phrase calls upon us for unity and positive action. It encourages Australians to improve our nation’s welcome for refugees and to acknowledge the skills and energy refugees bring to their new home. And we ‘Australia’ are denying many of those refugees and sending them off too camps offshore, where their skills, energy and hidden talents are put into no use. As an unified country I heavily believe we can can come together as a nation despite our scares, and worries about others projections and make a decision of ‘moral rightness’ to these poverty-stricken refugees.
According to APES 110, “to maintain professional knowledge and skill at the level required to ensure that a client or employer receives competent Professional Services based on current developments in practice, legislation and techniques and act diligently and in accordance with applicable technical and professional standards” is the definition of professional competence and due care. Management did not exercise adequate due care for their players when faced with these conditions. The informal nature of Dr Stephen Dank’s employment intensified this negligence as he was passed the duty of care of these players although he did not hold accountable to the club. Therefore those who involved Dr Stephen Dank bypassed the Human Resources procedures showing complete disregarded of the due care principle.
Have you ever had a dream that you wanted so bad and you would do anything to obtain that dream to make it a reality? Most kids if you asked them what they wanted to be when they grow up they would probably say something along the lines of an astronaut, firefighter, or maybe even a doctor, but what I have found to be the most common answer to this question is to be in some sort of major league sport such as baseball, basketball, or football. Most kids can’t really perceive the sacrifice and consequences that come with having this dream. The ones that have realized what it takes to make it in professional sports won’t let people or the hard work set them back they will keep moving forward and keep their eye on their goal so their dream isn’t a dream, it’s a reality.
When you're dribbling down the court and suddenly lose the ball, do you think you should deserve a participation award for that? I think they don’t deserve a trophy because they are entitled to everything, makes them feel special, and the hard workers receive the same trophy including first, second, or third place. Even though you may have strived for the best of your ability without coming on top, we still all want a trophy of some sort. Some of us have received a participation trophy of some kind. The year is now 2017, and we all think want to be rewarded for doing the little things out in the court. As one of my favorite song says “We All Want What We Ain't Got,” by Jake Owen. Because we want everything in life, we hope that life just throws something amazing at us. In the world today, that's all we want, and no one wants to put the effort in for trying to receive the 1st place
It isn't a crime to seek asylum. Since 1945 Australia has been accepting refugees and giving them a home where they can feel safe and not have to worry about the dangers they used to face. They can raise their family in a country that isn't war torn and divided by politics. However, a growing number of people want to restrict and remove some of the basic rights of people leaving their home for ours. “Reclaim Australia” was founded in 1996 and aims to reduce immigration. They’re anti-islam views have stirred the nation. They're goals include banning food of any religious blessings such as Halal and creating “one law for all”. The group does not consider themselves racist yet insists that Islamic people are terrorists, be-headers or bombers.
The first day of tryouts came around and I woke up that morning shaking with excitment and shear nervousness. I ate my bagel and chocolate milk, (a pregame ritual of mine) laced up my cleats, and was on my way. The second I got to the field I knew I was in for a long day. Most of the guys were double my size and looked like they were professionals. After a few days of the long, hard, and grueling tryout process the coaches posted the team on their website. When I saw my name wasn't on the list I felt spiteful, angry, even a little ashamed with myself. I knew I deserved a spot on that team and I was determined to claim it.
It is time we wake up and realize what we are doing to all who play the game of football. The American public is at fault. Nobody has put emphasis on the fact that football is a deadly sport and if it continues to be unrecognized as one then many football players and families will be torn apart by the long term side effects. I am not willing to sit here and watch as a wife loses her husband or as a child loses their dad, we need to stand up and put a stop to this cruelty. If we do nothing now then we might be too
I had devoted my entire off-season to attending camps and working out. I switched to a more competitive club league that included the best teams in the country. When the season began, I fought hard to keep my head straight and prove that I deserved a spot on the field. By mid-season I had I earned the starting center midfielder position.
“I’m going crazy,” “I can’t control myself,” “People are judging me,” “I’m about to die.”
For most of my life, I was skilled in organized sports, especially soccer, which I had played for many years. After a successful soccer season my freshman year, I thought that I would make the JV team for sure. At tryouts, I went through the motions of each drill. I breezed through the conditioning tests, doing the bare minimum for each test. I didn’t try as hard as others, as I felt that I was more skillful than most of my peers.
All your life you’ve dreamed big, but would your dream turn into reality? Imagine someone other than yourself putting it in your head what you're set out to be in life. Highschool football was everything to me. I've taken many sacrifices such as quitting my job; picking up unnecessary classes, and focusing on football it's self instead of other important responsibilities. These three things set me back, regrettably I became an athlete instead of a student athlete. With no desire to do anything else in life I always wondered when this is over what's next?
