Women in the Armed Force have come a long way from their small involvement in 1775 during The American Revolutionary War. The American Revolutionary War was the first time American women played a role in the military. Women in this time were only allowed to serve in the battlefield as water bearers, nurses, cooks, saboteurs and laundresses. In 1861 The United States broke out into a civil war over the abolishing of slavery, this particular war plays a major importance in the women’s military history. This war plays a major importance because it shows that women still served in war despite not actually being a part of The Army. In 1918 America found itself in World War 1, this war has major significances in the history of women military. During this time period in American history there were 21,480 female nurses serving in the armed forces both in military hospitals in the United States and overseas. The importance of this war was not for its large number of women nurses, but for the first 18 African American women that were involved. These pioneer women served stateside caring for German prisoners of war and African-American soldiers. In December 7, 1941 the United States was boomed by Japanese fighter planes this incident lead to the involvement of America in World War 2 (WW2). This particular moment in American history played a major role in sculpting modern day military. During this war America had More than 60,000 nurses serving stateside and overseas. This war was major stepping stone for women in the military. The greatest achievement for women during this war was the creation of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1942, which was converted to the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1943. This creation meant that women were officially apart of the United States Armed Forces.
