The U.S. Marshal Service (USMS) The U.S. Marshal Service is one of the oldest federal law enforcement agencies established under the Judiciary Act of 1789. The priority of the U.S. Marshals is for the apprehension of federal Fugitives in 1979 (Peak, 2009). As of 2016, the U.S. Marshals have about 3,752 deputy U.S. Marshals, 1,457 administrative employees with a budget about 1.3 Billion dollars. U.S Marshals has multiple responsibilities within their agencies such as protecting the federal judiciary, apprehending federal fugitives, managing and selling seized assets acquired by criminals through illegal activities, housing and transporting federal prisoners and operating the Witness Security Program (U.S. Marshals, 2017). Marshals in and around our area. A few years back in our city we had a disturbance that ended with the spouse being murdered. The U.S. Marshals helped track down the killer. After 911, the TSA is authorized to deploy federal air marshals on every passenger flight of a U.S. air carrier. In order for this to be implemented, air marshals have to complete a sixteen and a half week training program, and once they are assigned to an area they must complete about a hundred and sixty hours a year to keep their certification (Grover, 2017). Within the U.S Marshals you have to have a bachelor’s degree and be between the ages of twenty one and thirty six just like with the FBI and DEA. Most of the federal agencies have strict age requirements for their agencies, where most Police or Sheriff Departments can be beyond that age to be hired on. Most agencies go out to about 45 years of age and some Sheriff Departments can go further or even not have an age requirement. In reading about the U.S Marshals, it was impressive that the agency would set up stings to get fugitives to come to a certain location, while believing they won something.
