‘The “Blitz Spirit” was a myth. People did not come together during the war and it was a very hard time for ordinary Londoners.’ Do you agree? From September 1940 to May 1941, a horrific event ran through England. The Blitz was a series of bombing that the Nazi carried out on most parts of England and aimed especially at Londoners. The Nazi thought that they could weaken Britain’s strength and over power Britain so it would be easier to take over; during this, over a million homes were demolished and the bombings killed more than 40,000 people. It is questioned whether the existence of the Blitz Spirit is correct or just a myth; some people agree that it was real, ‘during the Blitz, people pulled together. It didn’t matter whether you were rich or poor – everyone helped each other out and got on with their lives as best as they could. That was the Blitz spirit.’ However other people go against that and say, ‘the idea of the “Blitz spirit” was invented to make people feel better. In reality, people did not come …show more content…
“Old men, little children, the crippled, the veterans of former wars, aged women, the hard-pressed citizens, the sturdy workman with his hammer in the shipyard, the members of every kind of ARP service, are proud to feel that they stand in the line together with our fighting men. This is a grand, heroic period of our history, and the light of glory shines upon all.” In this quotation, Winston Churchill entirely states that the Blitz spirit was not false by saying that everyone did come together and treasured every good moment. This suggests that no matter what your status was, every individual work with each other without much dissatisfaction. Winston entirely rationalises Stella’s opinion by speaking this. Hence the Blitz spirit did take place because there are numerous opinions and proof from the rich and the working class that express that the Blitz was
“The world must know what happened, and never forget.” (World War 2) General Eisenhower reflecting upon the world war II, and acknowledging it as a pertinent event in the history of the United States of America. War is war, it is not pretty or humane, but what it is, is a diplomatic way in which to settle disputes and aggressions between countries. By analyzing these wars of the past, the people of the country can learn many things, be it mistakes made by one side, strategy from someone else or battle field etiquette. And it is through this analysis that the human race is able to further itself to not repeat the mistakes made by their ancestors. There are many lessons to be learned from looking at the
World War II is deeply regarded as one of the darkest times humanity has ever been a part of. Such a time period is almost exclusively renowned as an incredibly bloody interval. However, behind the rain of blood is a psychological war. Sir Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister during World War II was a participant of such a war. The book Churchill and Orwell: The Fight for Freedom (Referenced as Churchill and Orwell) by Thomas E. Ricks visualizes Churchill’s endeavor in World War II as well as this obscure mental war. Churchill had fought this mental war by opposing public disapproval, understanding the enemy and making alliances.

In the first phase of World War II in Europe, Germany sought to avoid a long war. Germany's strategy was to defeat its opponents in a series of short campaigns. Germany quickly overran much of Europe and was victorious for more than two years by relying on a new military tactic called the "Blitzkrieg" (lightning war). Blitzkrieg tactics required the concentration of offensive weapons (such as tanks, planes, and artillery) along a narrow front. These forces would drive a breach in enemy defenses, permitting armored tank divisions to penetrate rapidly and roam freely behind enemy lines, causing shock and
This essay explores whether the working class prospered during the Nazis from 1933 to 1938. To determine if the working class was better off under the Nazis I will look specifically at ‘unemployment’ , ‘Beauty of Labour’ and ‘ Strength through Joy’ which were initiatives which aimed at improving the working class. On the whole, although the working class was given paid work and took part in organised activities, their situation did not really improve as I will demonstrate in the course of this essay.
Doomsday is defined as the day where the world will come to an end and people will face God on Judgment Day. Many people are fascinated by the notion that Doomsday will eventually happen soon, but there’s always a miscalculation when it comes to predicting as when the world will end. World War II is the most significant period in the twentieth century because technology, civil rights movement in the U.S, and the ability to explore outer space took a huge leap of fascination around the world. The two powerful allies emerged during World War II as to begin a Cold War with each other that defined the twentieth century. The idea that the world will come to an end by a nuclear war based on previous events from World War II that can potentially one day happen again because of historic evidence from the Cold War that wiped out two major cities in Japan, scientific evidence of a secret nuclear weapon written in India’s ancient epics, and the production of radiation smoke that builds up overtime can slowly kill humans. In the short story “The Destructors”, the character Trevor is revealed to want to destroy Mr. Thomas’ house for no reason. However, that may not be the case. When Trevor joins the gang, he is a man of few words. When described by another gang member, Trevor “never wasted a word even to tell his name until it was required of him” [sic] (Greene, 1). The carpark that the gang plays in is beside a house that had survived the London Blitz while all the others around it were destroyed, and Trevor is fascinated with it.
The Battle of Britain in 1940 In the summer of 1940, the German Luftwaffe attempted to win air superiority over southern Britain and the English Channel by destroying the Royal Air Force and the British aircraft industry. This attempt came to be known as the Battle of Britain, and victory over the RAF was seen by the Germans as absolutely essential if they were eventually to mount an invasion of the British Isles. The Germans had overrun Belgium, the Netherlands and northern France in May 1940, using the Blitzkrieg ('Lightning War') technique that relied, among other things, on close coordination between ground troops and the air force.

His life is an example of his spirit, overcoming the difficulties with which he was presented, and making himself stronger as a result of it. Churchill was a more than just a great speaker though; he was a great man and a great leader as well. He took over as Prime Minister of Britain during one of the most trying times ever to come upon the country, and led his country to eventual victory over their adversaries. The analysis of his speech allows one to come closer to understanding the true rhetorical genius of the man known as Churchill. In particular,
World War II had a definite impact on the United States. It changed how people lived and how other people were viewed. Not many people realize the treatment of people from our own country during World War II. Three groups of people that were affected were women, African Americans, and Japanese Americans. The lives of these people were changed drastically, whether by having to work, mistreatment because of skin color, or by being blamed for something that was done by a country they were native to.
In the 1950's the number of people living in the suburbs came to actually equal the number of people living in cities. This wave of people was due mainly to the availability of affordable housing; which allowed middle-class Americans to move to an area previously inhabited only by the wealthy. The houses and neighborhoods built in mass numbers on assembly lines came to look identical to each other. As a result of this, a model American life was created. People all around the country began to follow this model, and before they knew it a race to conform had begun. People no longer strove to be different, neither by ethnicity nor religion; they strove to be the same. David Farber, the author of The Age Of Great Dreams,
