‘The “Blitz Spirit” was a myth. People did not come together during the war and it was a very hard time for ordinary Londoners.’ Do you agree? From September 1940 to May 1941, a horrific event ran through England. The Blitz was a series of bombing that the Nazi carried out on most parts of England and aimed especially at Londoners. The Nazi thought that they could weaken Britain’s strength and over power Britain so it would be easier to take over; during this, over a million homes were demolished and the bombings killed more than 40,000 people. It is questioned whether the existence of the Blitz Spirit is correct or just a myth; some people agree that it was real, ‘during the Blitz, people pulled together. It didn’t matter whether you were rich or poor – everyone helped each other out and got on with their lives as best as they could. This is a grand, heroic period of our history, and the light of glory shines upon all.” In this quotation, Winston Churchill entirely states that the Blitz spirit was not false by saying that everyone did come together and treasured every good moment. This suggests that no matter what your status was, every individual work with each other without much dissatisfaction. Winston entirely rationalises Stella’s opinion by speaking this. Hence the Blitz spirit did take place because there are numerous opinions and proof from the rich and the working class that express that the Blitz was
