Why is it so important to understand the dangers of texting and driving? According to statistics, people who text and drive are twenty-three times more likely to be engaged in a car crash; therefore, no matter your age or how long you have been driving it is always imperative to keep your complete focus on the road. Texting while operating a vehicle has become the number one hindrance for many people. Texting while driving can cause harm to not only you, but also your family and even complete strangers as well. I pledge not to text and drive because doing so ruins lives for many people every day and I refuse to contribute to this growing outbreak. Getting a text while you’re driving is not the problem. The problem is responding to the text message. Now-a-days people are always in a rush to get to different places; because of this, we tend to forget how easy it is to become distracted. We think “This will only take a second to type and send, so it’s okay.” Moreover, we fail to realize is that it “only takes a second” to verve off the side of the road and hit a tree, or hit the vehicle in front of us. It only takes a second to create a severe, serious accident. Not only is it dangerous, but it is also against the law. There are easy fixes to the problem such as setting your phone to send automatic text messages. Overall, texting while driving can cause traumatic events to occur, but they are easily avoidable if we just simply follow the rules! We all need to take a stand and participate in putting a stop to this continuously growing issue.
