Many students wish to obtain a high academic standing and to succeed in not only a career, but also to live a successful life. Surprisingly, everyone has a strength property whether they are aware of it or not. Strength-based approach can give an edge to the student if embraced and educated about these strengths. Someone with the strength “woo” can excel at becoming the student council president or could be the voice of reason. Along with strengths come weakness such as how “woo can’t hold a deep relationship. My top 5 strengths from highest to lowest include input, responsibility, intellection, restorative, and connectedness. Strengths such as responsibility and intellection can be very helpful with school and work. While on the other …show more content…
I also see it as the grace of God calling me to action. Though finding the problem is the easier part resolving it is a little challenging as most of my problem solving is on instinct. Having a restorative trait can help with all problems especially within group work. When an argument may break out within a group it would be useful to know the issue and how to resolve it. This doesn’t just work within groups but with friends or families. It’s good to know where the scar is and how to heal it. It’s better to fix a problem than to let it soak in the relationship. The third to last strength is intellection and is defined as “talented in intellectual activities”. This includes being aware of your own mental thoughts and intellectual discussion. The dots between this trait and me seem to connect not fully, but almost halfway. I do enjoy intellectual discussion and I’m always finding a way to improve my character. On the other hand I didn’t find myself attracted to most educational studies apart from psychology type’s subjects. Having an intellectual strength isn’t really focused on just getting an A+. The intellectual strength heavily relies on the brains thought process and functions. This can help during moments of discussion or to help improve me character. Aiding those who need help by providing constructive criticism and positive feedback and reinforcement on good habits can help people move forward. Being able to think this way is a
Strength is that part of your intellect or nervous system that is more effective and productive than other parts. Throughout your experience of life, your actions or reactions drive different thoughts, behavior and emotion in your brain. The requests that are processed more efficiently and rapidly are known as your strengths. Nowadays, strengths-based approaches to work and life are gaining a lot of popularity and often they are used to improve leadership and create more productive and efficient work teams.
My top strength identified was the Achiever theme. Achiever describes the need for constant achievement. Achievers have the capacity and the drive to keep taking on new challenges and strive toward new goals (Rath, 2007). This description is accurate in that I enjoy a new challenge and like to keep busy working towards anything with some sort of successful outcome. I welcome the opportunity to do something better, more perfectly, or more complete which motivates me to a higher level (Rath, 2007).
These strengths include organization, participation, and creation of checklists. I feel I stay very organized in this class, as I have all of my documents organized inside my binder ready for a notebook check. In regards to participation, I try my best to raise my hand nearly every class. I stay active and focused so that I can obtain all of the information. I also ask questions frequently which helps me to avoid mistakes or any confusion. My final strength, the fact that I create checklists, has benefitted me immensely. Checklists help to make sure all requirements are met for any project or essay, which is how I received a 91 on my Pilgrim Presentation and an 85 on my Canterbury Tales Short Essay. Checklists have helped me to score higher on assignments with multiple requirements, but not all assignments were as simple as creating a
“By the end of the day you must achieve something tangible in order to feel good about yourself. No matter how much you may feel you deserve a day of rest, if the day passes without some form of achievement, no matter how small, you will feel dissatisfied.” (PH.Ds, Clifton, O., Anderson, E., Schreiner, L., Pg 26) When I read this quote in our StrengthsQuest text I felt as if I was describing my own personality while starring at myself in the mirror. If there was a sentence to explain “Chrissy” this would be it, or at least a very good candidate when summarizing my number one strength. After completing my StrengthQuest survey online and analyzing my results with the three people who
Based on the Clifton Strengths Assessment my top five strengths are strategic, deliberative, learner, maximize and individualization. As an individual, I rarely look into my weakness. I believe that when your too focused on your weakness, you forget about your strengths. Everything the book said is true, and we need to take the time to look at our strengths and make it perfect. It is true that in this world or the school system, we are taught to look at our weakness and correct it so that we can become stronger in our life. This book brings out the truth that I longed to hear for a long time. Invariably, I hear my professor tell their students that for them success in life, they must practice and look at our weakness. This book proves it wrong because for us to become successful, we must stay to our strengths’ path.
The strengths and weaknesses of a committed actor can be paradoxical. For this area I chose to consult with an acting colleague of 17 years. I thought it was necessary to have an objective perspective to honestly describe what has been observed from someone that knows me, personally. The following paragraph from a close friend and veteran actor explains this quandary in her description of me.
Trying to decide what your personal strengths are, is hard. For myself, I have grown in my strengths, and I’ve experienced my weaknesses. My personal strengths consist of: positivity, encouragement, laughter, and love. I pick these four because I feel that I am truly strongest in these aspects of my life. Being positive is a big factor in everything I do. I always want to be happy and joyful; not only to display Christ in me, but to make others feel the way I do. I want others to appreciate life and to feel any kind of uplift in his or her spirt. Positivity plays into encouragement. I make it my goal to make others feel better about themselves. My goal coming into college was to learn and know every person(s) name that I got the chance to meet. Just taking a few minutes out of your day to truly get to know someone, is such a blessing. It not only blesses me in new friendships, but it also blesses others because they feel that someone genuinely cares about them. Laughter is another characteristic I strive to pour out onto others. I laugh at practically everything. I love to laugh, and I love to make people laugh. I’ve learned the importance of laughter, and I just want to make one person smile every day. Love is my last of the four attributes. Love is so important to me. I love creation (Trees, birds, squirrels), God, and I love people. I just want the love that God has given me, to pour out onto others. I want others to know that I love them. These are my personal strengths
What I have learned about my strengths and weaknesses regarding the way I communicate is that I am more focused on being democratic and making sure everyone has a voice and that everyone feels heard. The weakness to this style is that it is time-consuming and I, therefore, can sometimes not come to a complete decision due to consistently weighing my options. When I read the twelve different listening blocks, I saw that I do specific blocks with certain people in my life. The biggest one I feel that I do is rehearsing because I worry that I may stutter or say something stupid, and so I focus on that rather than on what the other person is saying. When I focus entirely on what the other person is saying, I don’t know what to say in return
This essay aims to critically review my strengths and weakness in relation to my personal development over my second year at university. The main points of focus will be selling myself to an employer, gaining work experience, applying to vacation schemes, and adapting my CV.
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
Working in a family business can be challenging as each person knows his coworkers quite well. At Rabon’s Barber Shop, Bill and his two sons, Cliff and Phil, discover that their individual strengths compliment one another well, particularly in challenging situations.
My mother and grandma both suffered from pancreatic cancer. The cancer had caused them both to get depression, I didn’t see my mom dealing with depression, but I have watched my grandma go through it. Watching my grandma go through it, I realized that I wanted to help. In Indian communities, mental health is frowned upon. People talk about it as a joke, and they don’t think it is a big deal. So, my goal is to make sure people like my grandma get help, and never should be treated with disrespect because of their mental illness.
- I am most effective when I feel I’m in control of the outcome of the situation.
As a junior, I have not yet taken the ACT. I plan to take the test this year, at least once. My goal is to be in the score range of 24-27 the first time I take the ACT. I hope to end with a score in the 28-32 range after taking it two or more times. I am willing to take the test as many times as needed, and as many times possible until I get a score that meets my goal range. I will stop retesting when I am happy with my score, and have tested to the complete best of my ability. In light of beginning to prepare myself to take the ACT, I have analyzed and recorded some of my strengths and weaknesses in the areas of English and Writing. First, the strengths that I posses as of right now, will help my ACT scores because I am already fairly knowledgeable in those topics, and will not have to put as much focus into those areas.
Coming up with weaknesses is the hardest thing that someone has to do. You have to sit and wonder where you needed improvement throughout your years. Sometimes you think that you are perfect, but there is no such thing as a perfect person. After conducting the SWOT analysis and writing down my weaknesses, I see that I need to improve in many areas because I will need most of them as a leader, and I need to cut some of them out to improve to the next level.
