The voters pay more attention to the name who represents them making them more supportive of their service. The sum of people coming in on election days relies on who their member is, which makes the re-election much more likely. “In 2010, 84 percent of Senators and 85 percent of House members won re-election.” (Washington Post) Although there is a record of about 95 percent House members who usually won re-election. Most recently, in 2012, “90 percent of house members and 91 percent of senators were successful in re-election.” (Washington Post)

Each district can either have five seats filled by blue or red or it can be a mix between the two. The division gives advantage to one party over the other. Any change made in district lines affects politics. A gerrymander has an unfair attempt to draw district lines to increase their result. Once per decade, district lines are redrawn, populations change, and some districts gain or loose residents. District boundaries are redrawn to make sure each district has about the same number of people to fulfill the guarantee that each voter has an equal say. “Redistricting affects political power because it determines which party controls Congress and state and local governments across the country.” (Brennacenter) Even when the population is divided equally, drawing the lines one way can give an advantage to Democrats rather than the Republicans or vice versa. Some line-drawing can protect incumbents or some can mean they will face someone either from their own party or the opposite party. Redistricting has a bearing on what a legislature chooses to take on or which to ignore.
A case makes its way before the Supreme Court of the United States on appeal from a court. The party can file a petition to the Supreme Court titled “Certiorari” meaning that the petition informs the Court of the request for review. The Supreme Court gets thousands at times, so it has the option to decide which cases it will take
