Prometheus Bound is an Ancient Greek tragic play that is one of three plays concerning the large-than-human figure, Prometheus. Zeus, the king of the Gods on Mont Olympus in ancient Greek religion, Prometheus, a Titan, he stole the fire from Mont Olympus and brought the secrets using fire to mortals, then punished by Zeus to a life bound in chains. This is where the title—Prometheus Bound—is given to the play. Prometheus myth is originated from ancient Greek poet Hesiod’s Theology. In Theology, Prometheus is an evildoer, a liar. However, In Aeschylus' works, he fights for human survival and against Zeus. Prometheus’s name means "anticipate," in the play, he had known that Zeus would punish him, but he declined to comment on the tales, instead, still doing the things under his willing. “It is painful to me to tell the tale, painful to keep it silent.” ---- Scene I “Prometheus Bound”. Prometheus violates the fate and against with it. This action is a tragedy but incredible. The image of Prometheus refers to the people's rebellion and noble. The leaders who instigated democracy in Athens, Greece in the 6th and 5th century BCE created a functioning system of government that attempted to benefit its citizens. However, the system of democracy included weaknesses that didn’t support all people to the best of its ability and was overthrown in the end due to war. Approximately 2500 years ago a series of changes and reformations in political thought led to the creation of the ancient Athenian democracy. Through the changes implemented by Solon and Cleisthenes during the Golden Age of Greece, democracy was born in Athens. Although it was somewhat impractical, exclusionist, and only open to a very small percentage of the total Athenian population, its impact is still felt today. Athenian democracy is widely recognized as the model from which all other forms of democratic rule has evolved from. Through the principles handed down from that Athenian democracy, ancient Greek culture remains a prominent presence in contemporary life, particularly in regard to its democratic policies.

Prometheus is a figure in Greek epics who has been viewed through different lenses, according to the beliefs of the writer. While Aeschylus represented Prometheus as godly with human attributes, a saviour of man, Hesiod sees him as a troublemaker who is far from a hero. Ovid speaks of Prometheus only in the passing, saying he is the ‘creator of men’, however he does seem to revere the demigod ( ). Prometheus is the most prominent in ‘Prometheus Bound’, as he speaks directly to the reader. His expression of frustration at being bound makes him seem more human, but his acts and his refusal to go back on his actions are the attributes of a hero.
The ambiguity of the myth of Prometheus lies in its interpretation. The Greek myth surrounds the creation of man and the part Prometheus played in it. Prometheus (meaning forethought) and his brother, Epimetheus (meaning afterthought), were given certain tasks by Zeus after they fought on Zeus' side in the war with the Titans. As a reward for their loyalty, Zeus gave Epimetheus the responsibility of creating the animals and distributing their qualities, for example, strength, speed, and stamina. Prometheus, on the other hand, was given the task of creating man. Prometheus molded man out of clay, giving them the ability to walk upright so that they could be closer to the heavens and the Gods. Since Epimetheus was extremely rash in his dispersion of the traits and qualities to the animals, when it came time for Prometheus to give some to man, there were none left. So, Prometheus gave man fire, and taught him how to grow food, and how to make objects, such as tools.
It is important to be afraid. This is a message the two greek plays Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles send to the citizens of Ancient Greece. The emotions of the gods in both plays are unchangeable, regardless of how involved they are in the plot. This steeliness causes fear of the gods and allows them to successfully lead. When displaying their power, the gods are able to keep greek citizens in the hold of their leadership. They have trapped the people so they are unable to survive without their guidance, but have also created fear and respect. If they don’t fear the gods and respect power the people's lives will descend into chaos. However, if they do have fear they are unable to lead by themselves and become independent. The fear and respect the gods invoke in people is the key to their leadership, and without it there can be no civility.

Democracy, the form of government in which there is a rule by the people, is said to have originated and thrived in the classical period of Athens, from 500-350 B.C.. Democracy inherently gave all that were considered citizens power to participate in politics. That being said, it is highly debated as to how much power the people, also known as the demos, exercised in this democracy. Many practices and informal institutions can be said to have limited the power of the demos. The democracy in Athens could be said to have been a democracy in theory yet not in practice, as can be proven through a variety of primary sources recounting Athenian political institutions and practices. Such primary sources that can demonstrate this include Herodotus’ History, Thucydides History of the Peloponnesian War, and Demosthenes’ Oration Against Eubulides.

Mankind had great respect for him because of his advantages and gifts or abilities he gave them. Also, his battle against Zeus as a result of his love for man was very much appreciated. Prometheus was one of the most interesting Greek mythology figures in his time. He was a very kind, loving, generous, and courteous god to mankind. This can be seen through many events in his life including a particular myth that the reader will acknowledge in this research paper.
Despite the absence of Zeus in Prometheus Bound a reader can still get a great deal of description of and how Zeus rules the Gods and creation. It seems very different from the scene a reader can get in the Hesiod. Zeus is vilified in Prometheus Bound. He is the villain in my impression from the author. Zeus has inflicted the same punishment on Prometheus in both stories, but the brutality of this punishment is emphasized more in Prometheus Bound and all the characters in the story or play, except for Strength, show disdain toward this tragic and harsh punishment.
